The one, the only:

If we're talking THE Doctor, I'd say Tennant. I honestly find others (save maybe Eccleston) rather difficult to watch.

Tennant. No one else has nailed the burden, the dark side, the fear, the joy, of crossing time and space. I am pissed with him for quitting and no longer watch the show because the new one is a twat.

Hello Escapist, I just got done with the taxing Exodus of the Ninth Doctor's run, and now number Ten has made me happy with Doctor Who once more, and I've heard several good things about Eleven. That being said, which Doctors are your favorites? Which ones should be forgotten? Please do let me know.
Oh, before I go, I also have to recommend, watching as much as you can. What I mean is 1st Doctor to the lastest 11th.

You really can't say you are a true viewer of Doctor Who until you have seen at least an episode from each Doctor. Even though it was bad, I still recommend seeing the movie, because it includes the regeneration of the 7th into the 8th.

You also have to keep an open mind, because the old series wasn't big on special effects and highly done sets. I hate it when people rate the old series episodes on Amazon, as bad because of the sets and effects, people have to understand the time period and budget they came from.

If you can in the future, definitely pick up "The Beginning" Box set from BBC Video. It contains the stories 1, 2, and 3. "An Unearthly Child", "The Daleks", "The Edge of Destruction". Doctor Who back then were considered stories, and each story was at least 2 half hour episodes in length, the longest stories made it to 8 or 10 episodes.
Thanks for the recommendation, I'll definitely check up on the older seasons after I'm done with the Tenth. From a few samples, I think the Third is my second favorite, but that may change.

So difficult to choose, I'd have to say 8, 10 or 11. Such a shame 8 was never in a series of his own.

Places:

1. Ten was The Doctor, and always will be. Losing him from the show honestly hurt as much as losing a friend. Gah, awful.

2. I like eleven quite a lot, and I like Moffet, but there was something about the last season that didn't quite nail it. I don't know what it was, but I think it'll go away, because Smith visibly got more comfortable in the role towards the end. Also, WHAT COMPANIONS WHO AREN'T THICK AS PASTE AND RATHER LIKABLE??? This is neeeewww.

4. Four. He was The Doctor before Ten was.

5. "And look at me, I'm wearing a vegetable."

6. Seven. Oh, you dapper little man, you're adorable!

The rest are sort of tied with varying modifiers. Six loses points for being scary, Eight gains some for having awesome girl hair, things like that. One, Two and Three probably don't get the attention they deserve by whippersnappers like myself, because it's a bit painful to watch stuff that dated frankly, but I think the character rounded out well by Four's time and has only gotten better since then.

Oh, and I never liked Nine. There was nothing, nothing Doctorish about him at all. Phooey.

I really liked the Tenth Doctor, I don't know why there's just something about David Tennant.

Mine would be Tom Baker. He really brought the eccentric side out in the doctor.
Im also loving Matt Smith as the new doctor at the min. I was unsure of him at first but after watching the last episode i think he could be the best doctor yet.

I originally avoided entering this thread, basically because these days I find I'm the only one who loved Eccleston's run and bam OP describes it as "taxing" (sigh). I really liked him, he left early leaving me wanting more, unlike Tennant, who while fantastic, started to drag on me around season 4. His character had development over the series, he went from a sad and lonely war veteran to regaining some of his cheer and faith in people.

I do like Matt Smith at the moment. Slyvestor Mccoy was very good as 7th, dark and manipulative with the funny little man nature of the 2nd.

Tom Baker, hands down, for all time. The long scarf, the light humor, the easy story, and the cheesy graphics make everything I love about Doctor Who. The newer ones are dark themed, and I don't like that as much. And the last episodes of the 10th doctor did not do him justice.

Actually, I'm a fan of Matt Smith. Granted, I've only actually paid much attention to Dr. Who since the reboot, but whilst David Tennant is probably a better actor, I think he makes a better doctor. He's weirder and more eccentric. I like that.

In terms of Dr Who, I would go with the 9th doctor Christopher Eccleston, only seen the latest three.

I love Robert Picardo as the Doctor, my favourite character in Voyager and the best doctor in Star Trek.
