I've finished 8 completely including all sidequests and such. Took about 111 hours. Truly an amazing game.

9 I enjoyed, spent about 37 hours and finished the main story, but there is likely dozens of hours of other stuff in the game I should do. My only complaints about this game was the lack of character development and banter between them, as your party consists of generic characters you recruit. After enjoying the banter between Angelo, Jessica, and Yangus 9 lacked in that department. Also the fact that if you changed a characters class they start over at level 1. That was kind of irritating.

I'm nearly 40 hours into Dragon Warrior VII. I want to get back into it but some new games I got for Christmas sort of made me put it in the back burner.

Then we have the DS remakes 4,5,6 which I haven't gotten around to. I actually own the original DW4 NES cartridge and spent many hours as a young kid playing it. However, I never finished it.

What is your favorite Dragon Quest/Warrior game and why?

Probably 8 as it's the only one I've completed, the voices were great and it was probably one of the easier to get in to. I did like DQ 5 for basically putting you through your characters entire life

3 (GBA) is my favorite by far, although it is eclipsed slightly by Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 (Cobi or Tara, take your pick), which I'm not sure counts.

3 had a solid questline that was longer than most other DW games, accompanied by a fun minigame that had real rewards for winning, and lots of stuff to find for the curious. It did have flaws though, females were always 100% better due to the all-around stat gains from the Sexy personality (female only), the fact that the largest defense/resistance combo on any item was the "Sacred Bikini" (unsurprisingly female only), and warriors got the female-exclusive Amazon personality for the largest possible strength gain.

I will say, I've played 1-4 (I&II both on NES and GBC, III on GBA, IV on DS) and 9, so I missed a few in there, but 3 is one of my favorite games of all time, much less of the franchise, so it'd be hard to top it.

9 is not only my favourite Dragon Quest, it's quite possibly one of my favourite RPG's of all time, with only Xenoblade threatening it for the top spot. 8's pretty high up there too, of course. Medea was my favourite character, believe it or not. ^_^

8 was simply amazing. Probably my favorite. Its in my top 10 rpg's of all time. It had humor and an intriguing battle system. Plus the character banter was fun and genuine. It reminded me of the Tales Games to some extent.

Absolutely love 3 and count it as one of my favourite RPGs of all time.. but didn't spend any real time playing anything after 4 though so it's possible one of the later entries in the series would rate highly as well. I really can't stand Toriyama's art style though so I just have no interest in going back and playing them.

3 for the GameBoy Color because I hit a glitch that shot my Hero from level 33 to level 99 instantly. It really opened the game up for exploration for me, since now I had a character who could kill basically anything without much difficulty.

Absolute favorite is 7. I remember playing it all the way through when ti was rentable at the video store, then it was a good 6 or so years before i could get a copy off eBay. Did friggen everything in it both times.

Plus I like the stance it takes on religion. It shows God as pretty nice guy who's willing to let Humans stand up for themselves. A lot better then OTHER Japanese games treat religion. >.<
