Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver for Dreamcast and PSone is my favorite game because of the awesome voice acting, unique puzzles and characters. Plus it had a really creative story that was so engrossing that you totally believe what is going on.

That's an impossible question, but I have to say either Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter Nights. Baldur's Gate because, in my opinion it is one of the best, if not the best, RPGs ever created. Good story, unique areas and just plain fun.
NWN because of the mods and the toolset in general. Sure there are plenty of crap mods, but once in a while you'd find that special little pearl you'd been waiting for. And of course fiddling around with the toolset (Although I never really got the hang of it.).

MGS3: Subsistence. Great gameplay, fantastic story, excellent characters and the best bosses I've ever experienced. Also the Boss is my favourite gaming character ever.

Mm... CoD4... Nah but seriously. In my opinion it depends on the genre. I really don't have a favourite game. But one of the better ones I've played is CoD4. But it can be boring if you're not playing with pals... So... As a multiplayer game (the online gameplay) I think it's one of the best games around. For single player I'd say FFX or something though... Mucho playtime ftw.

Saints Row 2. Its the only game i can play for 7 hours straight and still have it be just as fun as when i played it for the first time.

Rome Total War. Excellent empire simulator with all of europe as your sandbox!

True the AI would have benefitted from tactical adviced given from a herring, and the pathfinding could turn a decisive victory into an all out rout but most of the issues were fixed in mods. Still with the bugs I could be immersed in that game like with no other.

World of Warcraft did the same thing for me but it's disqualified due to the fact that it ruined my grades in high school.

my favourite game is the one where no one uses the search button.

oh, and welcome to the escapist.

my favourite game is assassins creed because chucking people off buildings will never get old.
This is both the only time stating the search button is useful but also the only time not to. Sure, there's a thread for this every hour, but as you said, he's new.

The Ultimate Doom, or Doom II? :D

It's a very close tie between Deus Ex and Doom II. I love the difficulty, and what they did for the FPS genre.
I'd say Ultimate Doom... but being that the two game are very similar.. except the maps and the Double Barrel Shotgun... I tend to lump Doom & Doom II into just "Doom"

Overlord, because it's one of the few games you get to be Evil (and I liked the minions' humor)
for the reason I liked Dungeon Keeper 2 and Evil Genius (and the Fable series but they had less humor)

Gears of War is my favorite, the campaign was really fun to play and online was even better and nothing was better than sniping a dude in the head and seeing it explode or chopping a guy in half with a chainsaw

Tsukihime, for the story, for having characters I genuinely felt for, for making me cry at least once per story route (including one of the very few happy endings to make me do so). Oh, and Mystic Eyes of Death Perception is one of the coolest powers ever.

Chrono Trigger, seriously do I even need to explain? CT and FF6 were the last of a dying breed; the 16-rpg. Both were the epitome of the old school RPG as well for me with down right amazing stories, strong cast of characters, amazing gameplay and some of the most prestigious and greatest villains ever.

My runner up to those two would have to be Super Metroid (I just love old school games more than current days ones). The game was the definition of polish. Kick ass graphics, gameplay, and has some of the best ambient music in a game I've ever heard. One of the best Metroid games ever.

my favourite game is shadow of the colossus because it's unique, sparsley beautiful, tragic and makes you question your values a little while you play it. also brilliant, tense, combat/puzzle solving and the immense soundtrack.
