Harmonix. Amplitude, Guitar Hero (1 + 2 only) and Rock Band. Amplitude is one of the finest single player experiences available on PS2 - or any platform for that matter.

Blizzard, for every single damn game they've ever made.

Valve for the Half Life series.

Relic for their amazing strategy games.

Bethesda, for Oblivion and Fallout 3.

I'm gonna have to say Bullfrog and Lionhead. Dungeon keeper 2 was one of the most awesome games i've ever played in my life and I also really like Black & white. Too bad they screwed up at part 2 :(

Sierra for the Quest for Glory and King's Quest series
Black Isle for Baldur's Gate and Fallout 1 & 2
SSI for the old Forgotten Realms games like pools of radiance, ravenloft and darksun
Ubisoft for Might & Magic (that series only though)
Lucasarts for TIE Fighter, X-Wing and the follow ons
Westwood for Syndicate
and of course Nintendo for the NES and SNES mario games.

Lucasarts, before the whole 'Lets abandon point and click games because people are becoming too stupid' crap.

EDIT: Add Sierra to that.

Bioware. Why?

Baldur's Gate (ALL of them!)
Planescape Torment
Icewind Dale (All of them)
Neverwinter Nights
Knights of the Old Republic
Mass effect
Jade Empire

AND Canadian. 'Nuff said.

BioWare: For their storytelling and Depth
Grasshopper Studios: For their style.
Team ICO: For their artistry (may have to buy a PS3 whenever their next game shows up)

A couple years ago I would have said Squaresoft, but I've been less and less impressed with them since they became Square-Enix and starting pumping out spin-offs and sequels to sequels out the wazoo. Or maybe I just grew out of them, that's possible too.

Welp... I found at least one other person who mentioned Paradox. Thanks, SimuLord. yes... any one interested in real strategy games needs to look them up. I'll also throw into the ring:

The Creative Assembly for the Total War series

I'm also totally onboard for Bethesda and BioWare. I buy pretty much anything they put out now and have since Balder's Gate.

my top three(in no particular order) would have to be

Valve: Half life, TF2, Portal, and most of their other games.

Retro Studios: the Metroid Prime games (and the other metroids, I guess...).

Ubisoft: Prince of persia's were pretty good, and they've released quite a few other good ones

Nintendo. Can't argue with Nintendo.

SmileBit is good, too, as is BioWare and 'old' Rare.
