As the title was hint at, what is your favorite game series/franchise that just isn't as popular as others think it is.

For me, it would have to be the Fable series. I've heard a lot of complaints about it, but it still remains one of my favorite set of games.

You're telling me "Fable" isn't popular?

I guess under those qualifications, I can say Mass Effect is my favorite franchise that isn't considered very popular.

Just to point out, you will almost always hear more complaints about a game than praise. Why is that? Because, simply put, people who are happy with the game aren't going to vocalize as much as people who aren't happy with the game.

Hmm. I'd have to say Golden Sun. Its not exactly the most popular or well known series out there (according to people I have met), but I have to say, its a damn good one.

It's hard to say a franchise isn't popular because if the games weren't popular to someone, then they wouldn't become a franchise.

I do love the Dynasty Warriors franchise and don't personally know anyone else that plays them, so even though a billion other people play them I guess I could call them unpopular. At least where I'm from.

Mount & Blade. Indie series of Action-RPG's, other RPGs that claim to be sandbox games have nothing on it. It's really hard to get into at first, but it's amazing once you figure it out.

Suikoden. Favorite game series.
Was just about to mention that seeing as I have come across a lot of people who have no clue what Suikoden is. I've finished 1,2,3,and 5. Heard bad things about 4, Tactics, and Tierkries despite owning them. I will eventually play them to see for myself.

I love Fire Emblem, but I gotta disagree on it not being popular. Quite a few people I know play it, and while Nintendo hasn't exactly given it this best treatment in the states, I still would say it's fairly popular.

Wild Arms. Like most JRPGs it's overshadowed by the big boys, but has a number of interesting innovations across the 5 games, such as a mechanism to avoid random encounters, searching, and the FP system. All of them have ludicrous amounts of hidden stuff and always at least one bonus dungeon/boss.

I'd consider 3 to be the pinnacle of the series with some great subversions of cliche and very memorable characters on both good and evil sides, but the Hex battle system introduced in 4 and 5 had some good potential yet untapped.

Big in Japan, but so unknown in the states we here in the west get denied the revamps and sometimes entire releases of the "Tales of" JRPG series.

MegaTen and Ace Attorney are both a lot more popular in Japan than here, but they are my favorite franchises.

Of course they aren't really unpopular, just not widely known, and there is a bit of a difference there.

If you mean a series that doesn't sell a lot AND isn't very well received...hmm...I'm not sure.

-high five- I'm in a similar situation. I really do like the Dynasty Warriors series, but I know no one who plays them.

However, my answer was actually going to be...

This. I do adore the Tales series (if my avatar didn't make that clear enough), but it's none to popular in the U.S. of A.

Sweet Home. Japanese survival horror/RPG for the NES, Never localized anywhere else. One of Capcom's best games, as well as one of the NES's greatest games. A grand total of six people list it as one of their favorites on facebook, and I've never seen anyone else talk about it on a forum.
