Wow, lots really big titles. I mean, CoD? Seriously? 5+ million copies is under Very Popular? Shit, if that's the case, Starcraft 2 can be considered underground.

I don't have a "favorite" franchise, but if I was to name one which I liked a lot and was terminated due to lack of popularity, it would be the "On the Rain-Slick Precipe of Darkness" episodes.
Also, Penny Arcade are going to hell for starting an episodic game and not finishing it. I don't care if a different company actually developed it.

I think people really don't understand what unpopular means. Seriously guys Halo, CoD, and Assassins Creed, are critically acclaimed games that sole millions of copies each. They are the very DEFINITION of popular games.

I LOVE the BloodRayne series (The Games, not the Films); maybe it's the ridiculously blatant sexual overtones, maybe it's the mindless random dismemberment, whatever it is I just find the games hugely entertaining.

For me it's the Trauma Center and No More heroes series on the Wii. Anytime I ask if anyone has heard of any of those games they go 'huh?' or 'I hate the wii.' And these two series have made me kept my wii people! XD

EDIT; Would you count the Deus Ex and System Shock series? If so, than I add those to my list too.

Dragon Quest is a really unpopular series outside of Japan, so I'll go with that.
Agreed. I love Dragon Quest, but its low popularity in the states always saddens me. Though most of the people I show it to end up loving it.

Wario Land series. I think it's sort-of popular, but it was overshadowed by Wario Ware in Brawl.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes and remembers the Wario Land games. I can safely say that Wario Land 2 is one of my favorite platform games ever.

Also, I don't get why people have stated Fire Emblem and Golden Sun here. I love both series, but Fire Emblem is relatively well-known both through Smash Bros and five stateside releases that have sold relatively well. Most people I talk to have tried it out or at least seen a game of it. And while Golden Sun is nowhere near as popular, it is still relatively well-regarded by quite a few people. I've met more Golden Sun fans than Dragon Quest fans in my lifetime. Sure, the seven years between Lost Age and Dark Dawn might have made the series fall to the backs of people's memories, but since Dark Dawn came out, it has resurfaced in thought a fair bit. At least in my social circles.
