As bad as this sounds, I would have to say Dino Crisis.
Most of the people I know never grew up in the PS1/N64 era and so only know the PS2 onwards, and they miss out on awesome games like that.

Megaman Legends. Probably my favorite Megaman games

Other games that I doubt people have heard of are the Harvest Moon Series, Metropolis Mania 1 and 2 and Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie BBQ.

I-Ninja as a guilty pleasure. Love the art, love the humor, and love how you can stab forward and back between two enemies for hours on end...great game. Don't know if anyone knows it.

The Worms series. Somehow this series continues to exist, and has been released in some incarnation on virtually every major console since the Genesis/Mega Drive, yet it's still pretty obscure and underappreciated. Also, it has never made a serious change to its gameplay or core mechanics, making only minor additions or adjustments with each game, much like Pokemon or Zelda, and yet it never catches any criticism for it, unlike other, more high profile series.

Shining Force 1 and 2 great games and nobody knows them
Two of my favourite RPG's of all time.

I was big into music-based games, which were pretty rare back in the day before Gitaroo Man and Parappa tha Rapper.

Frequency and Amplitude are relatively-well known now because they were made by Harmonix, but I used to play the hell out of them:

This one is the classic that noone knows though: Bust-a-Groove:

Hey folks, long time lurker, first time poster!

I gotta say I've heard of 92.3% of the games mentioned here, I think I'm a bigger nerd than I realise!

Anyone looking for a criminally underrated point and click adventure game should try Sanitarium. It's great! Top-notch story, graphics(for the time), and emotion all wrapped up in a four disc package, to my eternal shame, I never finished it, not because I didn't want to though! I thoroughly recommend it!

Im going to have to say threads of fate for ps1, real time RPG that had 2 completely different story lines with seperate characters and the ability to morph into the bad guys you killed and jet force gemini because shooting bugs was never so much fun without that game

Considering no-one mainstream ever heard of Warcraft 3, I'll go with that.
That's not true at all.

On Topic,I can't think of one right now.
It is true, just because this site knows it and the Blizzard fanboys do, doesn't mean anybody else does. Everyone is familiar with WoW, but the majority of players in WoW itself hasn't even heard about WC3, and I'm not joking.
Let me separate 'gamers' from 'WoW players' for you. Gamers over the age of 18 have played Warcraft 3. WoW players do not necessarily fall under the purview of 'gamer' however. More like heroin addicts with DSL connections.

Escape Velocity Nova - I know a couple people who have played it, but it's a pretty niche product.
This. And the TC plugin "Polycon" that even fewer have heard of.

Also Geneforge, by Spiderweb software.

I have many gamer friends at school, but not one of them has ever heard of Dark Cloud or Dark Cloud 2/Dark Chronicle. Recreating the towns is a nice little touch and the dungeons were fun to explore. I like Dark Cloud 2 better though.

Klonoa: Door To Phantomile. Surprisingly I don't know anyone in real life that's heard of that game.

Amplitude...when people thought Harmonix was a name of an electric harmonica. Addicting as a $500 a day crack and heroin habit.

Pigskin. It was arcade fantasy football when Blood Bowl was still a tabletop game. Oh and the old Space Quest series.

I have both heard of and played that game when I was young, my friend had it. I need to get around to buying it now I have all the PS consoles.

Another one is probably Lost Kingdoms I and II, quite unique games.

Star Control 2. It's an old 3DO game, and I'm fairly sure that less than one percent of the people here owned a 3DO, let alone a copy of the game. It was Mass Effect before there was a Mass Effect. Actually, the first time I played ME, I couldn't get how much of a rip-off it was out of my head. Don't get me wrong, I love it...but go find out. It's a total rip-off.
