Tales of Vesperia. Bought it, took a look and thought 'oh this is way too cutesy to play' and put it on the back burner, came back to it and oh boy was i ever wrong....this game rocks!

for 2012 I nominate Front Mission.

Hmmm...my favorite game that I first played in 2013 that wasn't from 2013...

Well technically I did play Legend of Mana, which is my favorite game ever, but I've been playing that every year since 2000. I don't think it counts for this category...

Hmmm...

I'm really not sure. I don't think I played too many non-2013 titles in 2013. I think I'm gonna go with Poker Night at the Inventory though. I admit I like the sequel a lot more (which is a 2013 title I believe) but I still spent a lot of time with the first one too.

OFF, A freeware surreal French adventure/RPG from 2008. It has some incredible characters, an insanely creepy story and an awesome soundtrack. I played it a few months back and it's easily now one of my favorite games of all time.

The Walking Dead was amazing too, I played that in 2013 after waiting for all 5 episodes to be released. Roll on 2015 so I can play Series 2 and The Wolf Among Us in full (and hopefully Kentucky Route Zero...)

Dear Esther, Thomas Was Alone, Hotline Miami, Zeno Clash, Okami HD, One Chance (Flash Game), Little Big Planet 2 and Gemini Rue all get a special mention too.

Probably Ocarina of Time 3D. I must have not played Ocarina in like 13 years but the 3DS version had me once again hooked from the start. It's as fun as I remembered it and I'm actually quite surprised how well it holds up even today. Though that's probably in large part thanks to the excellent job of the people who made this version.

Haven't stopped playing Dishonored (I really have trouble not typing: Dishonoured) for days. Brilliant game. The DLC is fun but doesn't touch the main campaign. Also I've been playing quite a lot of Super Meat Boy. Perfect platformer, right there.

Going to have to go with Spec Ops: The Line. It's a modern military shooter that has the guts to tell you what a terrible person you've become rather than glorifying your mass slaughtering. To see Captain Walker transform from a cool-headed military trained commander into a ruthless borderline psychopath is one hell of an experience, even if the game itself is rather short.

I loved Farcry 3 a lot more than I thought I would. It's not better than my favorites of 2013, but it was a game I had not played till just recently that I really enjoyed. I forget if it came out in 2011 0r 2012, I'm too lazy to do a quick Google search. :p

I suppose my choice would be Catherine. I honestly didn't love the game itself (although I certainly enjoyed it), but I did love the randomness of a challenging puzzle game being wrapped up in a silly quarter-age crisis relationship drama, so I'll call it my favourite non-new game of the year.

Probably either FarCry 3 or Persona 4 The Golden, those are both games I started in 2013 and committed a lot of time too that were not actually released in 2013.

If I had to choose... Persona 4: The Golden, I can't actually think of a game that's made me happier... like... possibly ever...

I'm torn between a few...

I Have no Mouth and I must Scream
System Shock 2
Phantasmagoria
League of Legends
Metal Gear Solid 4

But my top has to be Hotline Miami. I had heard of it before and thought it sounded ok, than I watched gameplay, than it was free for Playstation Plus and I said 'why not'. I adore it.

For me it would be Dust: An Elysian Tail. Got it earlier this year and it's one of the best looking, best handling games I've played. And screw what people say, I love the characters.
I'm just quoting you to say, I know which webcomic your avatar is from...and I quite love it...

As for Dust: An Elysian Tail, my friends keep telling me I should get it, but I don't know if I should or not.
Well as far as I know it's quite cheap, and in my opinion definitely worth it. I'm not even usually a fan of Metroid-Vania games but yeah, it's pretty damn good.

Resident Evil: REmake For unknown reasons my dad threw away my old Gamecube when I was away at university (he said it was broken, but my brother said it worked just fine) so I picked up another one preowned and got Resident Evil: REmake with it. I have the original Resident Evil: Director's cut on the Playstation, but I instantly fell in love with REmake I found it more atmospheric than the Directors cut. I absolutely adore it and my main regret is not owning the game sooner. I am currently on the hunt for Resident Evil 0 as I lost that game ages ago and I really want it back.

Dark Souls. I've played many others, but it just overshadows all of them (including New Vegas).

I guess Borderland 2 count despite I got it a two week ago (Christmas present). Well ok that game is the only new game I've bought that wasn't in 2013.

Mine would probably be Alice: Madness Returns. There's just something about that whole story and aesthetic that I really liked, even if the game itself did drag on a bit toward the end.

Close second with Far Cry 3, however. I got it during Steam's winter sale so I haven't quite finished it yet, but so far I'm loving the whole open world tropical island theme it has going on. Plus, the whole thing is absolutely gorgeous, so that helps.

Diablo 3 was my true 2013 GOTY.

It easily commanded 90% of my gaming attention throughout the year and has started 2014 in my the same way. It seems that every time I tire from the experience I'll just end up coming back to the game within a week or two.

It's strange how much I love the game because critically speaking, it's probably 4th spot as far as current day loot hunt games are concerned. I get the impression that many gamers would consider Path of Exile, Marvel Heroes and Torchlight 2 to all be better takes on this genre. Yet I keep coming back to D3 for the satisfying combat system.

Red Dead Redemption

I started Red Dead Redemption when I got it back in 2011, but only got two thirds of the way through for whatever reason. Now i've gone back and replayed it to completion, plus i'm working on getting 100%, trophies, playing multiplayer, DLC etc.

There's still so much mileage in that game, haha
This and Arkham Asylum make my not-actually-from-2013 GOTY list.

Oh boy, it's hard to say. It's gotta be between Tales of Graces and Mass Effect 2. Both are fantastic games that I would definitely play again.

Mass Effect 3 and Tales of Xillia are high up on my to-get list :D Need to play everything I got for Christmas first though... one of them is Fallout: NV so it may be a while before that happens!
