Grim darkness, for the emperor, kill the alien. Jolly good.
Unless you'rea a citizen..or a Guardsman/Guardswoman. Or possibly a human with psychic potential...or Eldar

And so on.

Just reroll untill you get Orc or Tyrannid and you'll be golden, my son.

Suikoden Universe, preferably somewhere in the toran republic, it seems quaint and nice, if you disregard the F'all huge baors trying to kill you wherever you go.

Or the Mass effect universe, it is EXACTLY the kind of gaming uiverse i used to dream of when i was younger, it has a roch backstory, suspiciously-human-like aliens, badass partners to hang out with, and awesome psychic powers and spaceships.

Except for the whole "giant robots killing you to spare you the indignity of being killed by robots" It seems pretty nice.

Even after the screwing-everything ending, I still have a soft spot for the ME universe and likely always will, if only for the potential and versatility it had.

Though I played Fallout 3 many years ago, it was the experience of playing New Vegas that left me feeling quite partial to the fallout universe too, for many of the same reasons that I like Mass Effect; it painted a picture that was clear enough to be vivid and compelling on it's own, but malleable enough to accommodate stories, characters and themes of all stripes.

40k, a few years back...nowdays it's just not the same.

Otherwise, Exile/Avernum, though not played anything in that serious in ages.

Well, my favourite universe, from the perspective of one I'd like to be in, is Pokemon. Safe, fun, advanced technology, not too much conflict, pretty great place. It is safe enough children can go on journeys by themselves.

For ones that I just like though, Fallout as suggested in OP is always great to explore. I'd honestly like to see a slightly more realistic take on it. I mean, it has plenty of violence and shit but their are some issues that I feel it has to shy away from for ratings reasons and shit.

I'm also interested in the Dragon Age universe, though I feel the main games have yet to really get into the meat of it. Sure there are books and shit, but for me it doesn't matter if there are a dozen novels detailing every aspect of the lore if we don't see that stuff in the game. Here's hope DAI expands on the world some more.

I like 40k, pokemon and Warcraft (before WoW mostly) but my favourite is The Elder Scrolls. I played Morrowind like crazy when I was a young teenager and I just really like how much lore there is and how a lot of things you wouldn't think are related at first glance actually are.

True, but Nomura flat out said no one is allowed to die in KH, so I think you'd be safe. Except for that fat guy who got killed in KH1. Everybody just sort of forgot about him.
Wait, fat guy who got killed in KH1? Who was that again?

Also isn't Eraqus dead, or is he still alive-in-our-hearts-so-totally-maybe-revivable?

I'm confused. It looks like the OP just asked what everyone's favorite video game universe was, but everyone's responding like he asked 'what game world would you like to live in?'.

Anyway, one of my favorite universes has to be Thedas, of the Dragon Age series. On the surface, it can appear to be little more than another near copy-paste of Tolkien's work, but if you look deeper, a whole bunch of interesting things start to pop up. I just want to see everything there is to see, witness the major historical events, learn more about the Architect and his followers...

Oh, and can we please visit the Tevinter Imperium sometime? It's like the most interesting place in Thedas (barely edging out Antiva), and is only ever mentioned in passing.

I have to admit I love the Warcraft universe. There magic, nature, machinery (I refer to titans constructions here) combine in to amazing things. And according to lore anyone can attune to the art of magic if they seek if enough. Specially with light magic, that serves you "if you believe your cause to be righteous and good" (Which explains why Scarlet Crusaders can command it (along with all the undead things that do) - even though they are complete assholes about it))

Personally I think the Starcraft universe is pretty awesome. I love the protoss, and the Terran troops, and also the Zerg is awesome in it's own right. I would love to be a ghost too. (my username LAWL)

It has to be Mass Effect, because it is actually... an universe! So many planets and different species to meet. Great characters around that universe, except for certain space child, but well, no universe is perfect.

And what about my favourite universes? One of those must be in Bioshock and it's the Rapture one. It was great to visit that amazing place which was created to be an utopia destroyed and inhabited by monsters which once were human.

Haha, that random citizen who got killed by the heartless the first time you enter Traverse Town. I get the feeling that Nomuras rule doesn't apply to nameless NPC's.

I think he hinted that Eraqis is still alive somehow. The only one I'm not sure about is Xion. I know they're bringing the Xehanort sage to an end though, so I'm not sure if this applies to villains.

I remember the NPC, I always assumed him and everybody else who got their heart stolen were restituted after closing Kingdom Hearts... somehow...

Personally I'm sick of characters re-spawning every couple of games. It undermines the drama of their supposed deaths. For that matter, why would I care for characters if they do the Dragon Ball thing of getting sent to a physical limbo upon death and being wished back to life through the power of love now and then. I like Axel as much as the next guy, but I wish he had staid dead. Yes, I know he was the Nobody of Lea who is a Somebody and took his place but come on, it's just an excuse for bringing back a character model/voice talent/personality trait. It's still Axel, no matter what convoluted theories you spin around him.

The Legend of Zelda universe. It's a medieval fantasy setting that is actually original compared to most other fantasy settings with its own races, lore, and interesting characters.

Second would be the Pokemon universe, Terminate421 basically already said why.

I can't really decide as I love a lot of settings for different appeal...

Fallout is amazing, but if you want Cyberpunk, I vote for System Shock.

Fantasy I'd probably go Warhammer 40K (yeah, it's in the future, but it's also full of elves, orks, magic and demons, so I think it qualifies).

Or maybe the Gothic-universe, although I only really enjoyed the first two games. Hm! Or the post-apocalyptic Spellforce world! Man, so many choices for fantasy...

Suikoden Universe, without a doubt.

It has several advantages over other fantasy universes: Basically an early-renaissance period with a variety of art, including: Literature, Plays, and Music. Plus advanced medicine and only a small amount of magic. It has a choice of kingdoms, agrarian cultures, mercantile nations, republican democracies, and near-anarchist lands. It tends to value education and intellect as much as warfare, and conflicts -while existent- tend to be more minor and restricted to combatants.

Magic does exist, but is mostly only wielded by Runes, worn by humans. Essentially making magic powerful, but tremendously limited in its effect. The only major problem with this is the controversial autonomy of the Runes, meaning that no one really has any idea if they are sentient themselves, or what on earth their purpose or desires could be if they are sentient.

Basically what makes Suikoden stand out is that it actually feels like a real world. It has it own nations, and these nations have relations in trade and military policy. There are various cultures with various ways of fashion, art philosophy, and so on. Nations that are sometimes enemies can join forces and become allies, and vice versa.

3rd era Tamriel is the best and most detailed setting in gaming. Well, maybe Discworld can be somewhere near. Any other big setting was not represented as good as those two.

Yeah, I kind of feel like they could have ended the series with the second game and it would have been perfect. We don't need 15 Kingdom Hearts games. All the emotion in the games is artificial if no one stays dead. It would have been better to not kill anyone off at all. The plot is starting to feel a little bit convoluted at this point. I liked Aqua as a character, but otherwise all the characters and spinoffs feel like clutter. Also, what the heck Sora? Man up and ask out Kairi already. Good grief.
