So, I have been playing some 'Plok' recently, and searched the internet for the locations of the warp-zones. My searches were little fruitful.

This got me to thinking about all those games I own that I can't talk about with anyone because no one knows about them. And that's what this post is about, finding people who love the same obscure treasure you love too.

So, do you have any of these games that you simply love but no one seems to know what you're talking about whenever you bring them up?

Ooh, definitly Xenogears on the PS. But then again, it is kind of a "legendary" game nowadays..

here we go again :D

Not an obscure game, not at all but out of the maybe 6 mentions across this board, 5 were by me.
[sub](Look, Redlynx/Ubisoft, I'm really trying here. Now pay my invoice)[/sub]

Trials Evolution. Granted, there's not much to talk about. You ride a dirtbike over obstacles. Period.
Still. The complete lack of response whenever I bring it up is baffling. If you've ever had any sympathies for a game based on the (addictive) accquisition of skill, you simply must not miss it.

Plus, fantastic little flash game: Zombotron

Heroes of might and magic 5....because most people thought the series stopped at three if they know about it at all

RunMan Race Around the World. It's a freeware game made Tom Sennett.
Hell, RunMan was even an unlockable character in Super Meat Boy. Damn, I love this game. It's a very creative and enjoyable platformer.
You can get it here.

Well, I loved the hell out of Oni back in the day. Not many people know about that one.

It had a move where you could plant your foot in a guy's face, force him down to the ground, twist the gun from his hands and, if you timed it right, shoot him in the face, all in one fluid motion. Or you could sling your arm around a guy's neck, then swing your self around him like a pole, kicking at any other nearby enemies. Oh, and there was a thing called a 'willow kick' that was literally a nut shot with a stun effect, and no, it didn't work on female enemies.

More recently? Nah. These days I don't have the patience to go digging through the shit heap in search of diamonds. Obscure games that are good generally don't stay obscure for long anyway. To The Moon is about as obscure as I can be bothered with.

Also, I was into Amnesia: The Dark Descent before it was cool. Then the damned hipsters came and ruined it forever with their Youtube reaction videos.

EDIT: Oh, and there was The Cat Lady. Point-and-click-adventure horror game. Ugly as hell, terrible interface, kinda bonkers and suffered from adventure game logic, but had some great moments.

Hmm, while it has had a fair share of discussion on this very site a long while ago, Katawa Shoujo must still be pretty obscure.

It's a Visual Novel based around dating disabled girls. No wait! Come back! As absolutely terrible, cheap and pure controversy bait as it sounds (trust me I was VERY skeptical about it too) it's actually a fucking masterpiece. Everything is so well-written, the music is great and the artwork is quite unique. The splash arts have a tint of watercolour-esque paints to them.

The setting is a school exclusively for disabled highschoolers so naturally your main character is disabled as well which helps take the weirdness out of it. In fact your main man Hisao first acts pretty much exactly how an average person would when faced with a minefield of political correctness. For example he says "I see" to a blind girl then makes a huge deal of apologising over it

Essentially he does the fretting over it so we don't have to.

I recommend doing Hanako's route first because Hanako is best. If you disagree then uninstall the game okbye :D

Just don't end up like me. "Oh I should get Rin's route started today" *starts new game* *hits Hanako introduction scene*

*Sigh* God damn it... Here we go again.

Also Kenji is the most genuinely hilarious comedy character I have ever seen in a video game. Watch out for the Global Feminist Conspiracy, gentlemen... Any lapse in vigilance and BOOM you wake up with a knife in your back!

Nothing is obscure on the internet but in my personal lofe it's the ratchet and clank games
No one I know has heard of them
Yet again, this is my personal life before people start telling me it's not obscure.
Maybe pokemon conquest?

Hey the craziness of The Cat Lady pretty much made the game for me. That and the concept of a women who commited suicide being picked up by some demon, made immortal then kicked back into the world on a quest is fucking cool. It's supposed to be ugly I think. Like a metaphor for the darkness of human souls or something... Yeah let's go with that.

The adventure game logic wasn't that bad (at least to where i'm up to) I can actually figure things out on my own!

Also, for an immortal, Susan is TERRIBLE at not being murdered.

E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy - Never actually finished the game but damn, its just so unique because of how little it cares for the player.

Timesplitters 2/3 - Yeah, people know about it on the internet but none of my friends ever heard about it (although by those rules I should also include Gmod, STALKER and Mount and Blade).

Kung Fu Warriors Strike - Very cool kung fu game that can get very hard but at the same time makes the player feel like a badass, the combat is kind of like in the Batman games although less automatic (the character doesnt magicly slide to hit a far away enemy and blocking doesnt knock the enemy, it just blocks the attack).

Death to Spies - Ever played Commandos? Like Hitman? Will it blend? Apparently yes and this is it, no room for mistakes in a WW2 Hitman like game.

Hidden and Dangerous 2 - It does go back to Commandos again but its more action oriented (played in first person or third person), still a nice fun game to play in co-op.

I still need to finish that game one of these days. Finished Emi's route and pretty much stopped there. Don't know why.

OT: Motherfucking STEAMBOT CHRONICLES. I fucking loved that game to death, cheesy songs and all. It had the most fleshed out world that I have ever seen, even having an explanation for every single enemy that you encounter (most of the time its just "bandits attack travelers here", but a lot aren't.)

Oni was the shit! Loved that game, Bungee should make a sequel to it.

As for obscure games. I vote for "Z" on dos, and Seven Kingoms II. I've just rediscovered that gem

Looking at this thread so far...

One game I've played...
Two games I've played...
Three games I've played...
FOUR games I've played!! Ah-ah-ah!!!

For me, it would be Fields of Fire: War Along the Mohawk. A mix of RPG and baseless RTS, set during the French and Indian War. Nicely done, with a host of unique characters and nicely varied campaign missions. It was a big enough release that I found it in literally the first store I tried in Poland (after seeing a review on TV), but to my knowledge, the creator of the game was the only other person who ever played it. The company's other games were obscure baseball managers and such, so this one was one hell of an unexpected gem. And the company was small enough that when I contacted them for support, the CEO himself answered.

Sadly, doesn't like modern systems. I have to use Virtual PC running Win98 to play it nowadays. I dream of a day when I find it on GOG.

EDIT: OK, six.

Do people just use the word hipster entirely at random without the slightest bit of logic these days? Because given that you said you played it before it was cool, surely you'd be the hipster in that scenario.

Don't mind me, pet peeve.

Record of Agarest War!

I mean it must be popular somewhere because it got 2 sequels... (Probably Japan}
But it's the best game of the console generation and sadly it never gets the love it deserves.

Would the Golden Sun games on the Gameboy Advance count? I would like to think they stood out compared to other RPGs on the GBA. Lots of people seem to remember them, but I doubt many gamers care about those two as much as I do.

When it comes to gaming, I guess I am just too mainstream.

I remember that the original video was removed from Youtube for some reason a while ago, glad to see it's back. :D

Crazy Drake, it was an Earthworm Jim clone that was set in like Transilvania, it was fun, but I think maybe 5 people actually know anything about it now.

Ever heard of Monster Rancher? No? Well, as a kid, I had a card collecting version of that. Monster Rancher Battle Card II, for ps1. Kinda frustrating, but I enjoyed it a lot as a kid. And now.
