I recommend doing Hanako's route first because Hanako is best. If you disagree then uninstall the game okbye :D
Hanako is best and if someone disagrees then I hope they get a piece of salad stuck in their teeth that they cannot remove

OT: well I am currently going through El Shaddai, which is the gayest christian game you'll ever find
although it's not really christian, but rather it's set in one of the old books of the bible that is not canon
it's pretty entertaining and fucking gorgeous to look at, it really is making my HD screen+HDMI cable shine

aside from that, another game I played was sweet-ass Vivisector
it was like a mix of painkiller and serious sam, with the technicals of painkiller and the big fucking world and enemy hordes of serious sam, although not at the same level of whack

and then there was Cryostasis, which was quite the experience
had amazing atmosphere, interesting setting and a quite surprising level of detail

Answered this before, but I will say Trauma Team for the Wii and Evidence the Last Ritual for the PC. Trauma Team is basically Trauma Center but being able to play an entire fucking hospital. Evidence is a horror/puzzle me where you play a police detective trying to catch a serial killer. You use the actually internet and email to solve puzzles. Pretty cool.

EDIT; I forgot Corpse Party for the PSP (I have on my vita) It's a pixel horror game about a group of Japanese highschool students who get thrown into a haunted school. The Atmosphere is amazing and the game is trial and error exploration. One wrong move and you're restarting an entire chapter.

Do people just use the word hipster entirely at random without the slightest bit of logic these days? Because given that you said you played it before it was cool, surely you'd be the hipster in that scenario.

Don't mind me, pet peeve.
I was joking.

I had hoped that the use of the phrases "before it was cool" and "ruined forever", complete with italics, would get that across.

And yes, I do basically use the word "hipster" at random, since that's what everyone else does. I'm not even sure of the word's meaning. So far as I can gather, it means "person I don't like". Or possibly "person who wear tight jeans that I disapprove of".

I have to say that while I'm tempted to say the Xenosaga series, I've meet a few people on this forum who have actually heard and enjoyed the series; not to mention, they had a few commercials out for the first installment.

Lookin' in my nook of games, I would say that many have not heard of Professor Hatsworth and the Puzzling Adventure for the Nintendo DS. Some might have heard of Monster Tale as there were quite a few commercials for it; this title is its predecessor in terms of development and it's more platform and puzzle focused than Monster Tale, which is more Metroidvania styled.

Professor Hatsworth is a pretty decent platformer that mixes a puzzle bottom screen that can both aid you in gameplay and necessary to defeat certain enemies and bosses. If you liked Monster Tale, then I definitely recommend this title.

Rise of the Triad

Okay, so maybe this isn't the best example due to the fact that the remake comes out today and the game has become a bit more well known because of said remake. But when it comes to the original game, no one really seems to know about it. Even people I've talked to who are fans of mid-90's Doom-era FPS's often don't seem to know anything about RotT, which is a damn shame since it is easily the most overlooked and underrated FPS of that era. It's silly, over the top, bombastic, doesn't take itself seriously, and is amazingly fun.

I mean, seriously, the fact that Rise of the Triad has a powerup that temporarily turns you into an invincible dog that can bite enemies to death and also allows you to charge up a supersonic bark that causes enemies to explode is enough of a reason by itself to be annoyed that more people haven't played it.

It's okay, some of us got the joke.

Don't forget lensless glasses and really thick, often multi-colored scarves even when it's not chilly outside. And who employ liberal use of the phrases "You just wouldn't understand", "You've probably never heard of it", and "They totally sold out". Though that's approaching the more serious end of the spectrum here again. Sorry. :(

OT: Well, no matter what I say someone is going to know about it.

Of Orcs & Men - It's not the most RPG RPG I've ever played, but it's got an interesting take on the whole Orcs vs. Men fantasy plot, I quite like the immature humor and silly writing, and the combat is like a simplified form of the stuff from Knights of the Old Republic, which I can dig. It's got some arbitrary difficulty spikes because there's no dedicated healing character, though...

AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAA!!! for the Awesome - A game based around falling (more specifically base-jumping) is pretty intriguing, and after getting used to the controls it's really quite a blast, and great for quick bursts of gaming fun when I just want to spend ten or twenty minutes doing something.

The Swapper - There really is an overabundance of indie puzzle-platformers, but The Swapper uses its mechanic expertly and really just excels at everything except the feel of the character's jump. Fortunately you don't have to platform in the traditional Mario/Sonic sense all that often, so it's not that big of a deal. But the style, aesthetic, atmosphere, puzzles, music, and even story and voice acting are just superb.

Einhander!

Damn this game is good. It was Sqauresoft's first attempt at the bullet hell genre, and by goodness they nailed it. Awesome graphics, amazing soundtrack, and unique gameplay! It's IMO the best the genre has to offer.

How many of you remember playing Birthright: The Gorgon's Alliance? It was dungeons and dragons meets proto Total War combat and realm management. So much fun jumping between ruling a kingdom, raising an army of skeletons to defeat your enemy in the field and the delving into a dungeon.

Also, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Also known as "first person melee combat done right."

I don't think too many games I like are really obscure or anything.
I'm too mainstream now ;P

There was this one game I absolutely adored as a little kid though.

It was a vertical shooter that i found funny and challenging at the time. (At least past the space level on hard mode.)
My copy had all sorts of moon runes all over it, but from what I can find I think it's called "Time Bokan Desuyo"

I remember I had some other stuff like that. But it was a really long time ago.
I think I also enjoyed agame called Bangai-o Spirits for my DS

I actually checked that out when it was released. Y'know, looked up some gameplay footage and stuff.

Oddly, what put me off was the orcs saying "fuck" all the time. It just seems like such a modern word (even though it's been used for centuries). So it seems strange for medieval fantasy dudes to be saying it. It would be like if they went around greeting each other with, "Hey, wassup?"

Yeah, that seems to be a sticking point with a few people about the game.

It's kinda one of the things I find charming about it, myself. It helps it stand out from the plethora of fantasy media that tries emulating Tolkien, even if it's in a more juvenile or odd manner.

Well, Timesplitters is a bit of a cult classic, it's in no way widely known...

And besides that, Dark Chronicle was played by very few people outside of Japan, where it was extremely popular. Of course, this is just on a scale of comparison.

The only two games that I can think of that I really liked that no one else seems to have heard of are Cold Zero: No Mercy and Submarine Titans. Both of them were bought for me as presents from relatives who knew I was interested in video games but had no real idea of what I actually played.

Cold Zero: No Mercy was a Jagged Alliance-esque game that boasted hundreds of weapons and a supposedly deep story about an ex-SWAT sniper working for a mob boss to track down and eliminate the source of a new drug that's hit the streets. Honestly, if you've played Jagged Alliance: Back in Action, you've more or less played Cold Zero: No Mercy. The gameplay is pretty much exactly the same, the graphics are pretty close, and Jagged Alliance: Back in Action even reuses many of the same animations and sound effects. By comparing it to Jagged Alliance: Back in Action I'm probably making it sound like crap, but actually, I thought it was a far better game. Especially since it came out like ten years ago and was pretty much a bargain bin priced title from the get-go.

Submarine Titans was a fairly interesting RTS from 2000 that honestly, I loved the hell out of and have been dying to see pop up on Good Old Games. It featured three fairly different factions, you had the ability to steal enemy technology and develop it for your own forces, it used depth as an actual combat mechanic so that you could attack from above or below your target as well as avoid enemy torpedoes by rapidly changing depth, and frankly... for the time, it was just a really goddamn pretty game for the genre.

Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus, the sequel to Abe's Oddysee, is the best game I have ever played, and not a whole lot of people know about it. It's a shame, really. Oh well... at least we have New 'n' Tasty! coming out soon. It's gonna look so sweet on the PS4!

That sold a shit ton, also it was freakin' awesome. The only thing that ruined it is that it forcibly gets rid of your armies in a very unsatisfying way. All they had to do is add a prestige mode (New Game +) to it and it'd be better.

Woot! I have an obscure game that I've been playing lately: X-Men 2 Clone Wars for the Sega Genesis. It was easily one of the best games for the console but its not exactly well remembered. It was side scrolling jump and shoot/fight game and it was fun as hell. I played it again recently via emulation (no amount of blowing will bring back my genesis) and was glad to know it wasn't just my nostalgia telling me it was good. The level design was excellent, the characters were well balanced, the co-op was awesome, and even the music was great.

I also second whoever said Team Buddies. That game's multiplayer was the shit

Hmm, while it has had a fair share of discussion on this very site a long while ago, Katawa Shoujo must still be pretty obscure.
I think its just obscure on the escapist seeing as it has like a 1000 pages of fan art and image macros [http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/subcultures/katawa-shoujo/photos]

Mayhem in Monsterland on C64.
Dizzy which i think it well known.

Actually why cant they add old C64 or Amiga games to Live/PSN? Would love to have Creatures 1&2 and Turrican 2 to play again.
