No room for haters
I get on here just fine, I'd leave it at least a week before you start telling other people where they belong.

As for the hate, I don't hate guns, I like my Grease gun, it's useful, there's plenty of guns in the world that don't fire bullets.
Well your shit outta luck because we are talkin about the ones that fire bullets

Oh the railgun prototype, its an experimental weapon being built, The bullet as its traveling through the barrel has a great acceleration increase because it is a high powered electric gun

How original.

Mine is the USAS-12 Automatic Shotgun.
Funnily enough, the USAS-12 (semi-auto) shotgun is considered a Class III Destructive device.

The Russian Saiga-12 (semi-auto) shotgun of more or less same specifications, is considered a standard hunting/sports gun.

Go figure that one out. =D

I REALLY like the Mosin Nagant 91/30, it's a pretty gun, and it's a heckuva lotta fun to shoot.

Actually, bolt action rifles in general. I really want to get an Arctic Warfare Police Magnum in either .338 Lapau or .308 Winchester. They're just pretty and comfortable.

Would LOVE a TAR-21, but the Civilian ones are ugly, and the non-civi ones are near-impossible to get.

Also: Pony gun. (DO WANT!)
It fires ponies.

But seriously, they do have a huge advantage over a baseball bat: Range.
I'm not shy about close-up fighting, but there are plenty of situations where it's not an option.
That's it Max, I'm going to have to go out a build a Baseball Bat launcher, just to prove you wrong!

I always wonder how many mugging situations could be solved with a toy gun with a laser pointer on it, or in homes a broom handle with tape recorder attached that goes click click like a shotgun. In either case I think a taser would work best, not least because it puts the victim down, where guns don't always manage that.

(I'm actually quite interested in guns, mostly from an engineering perspective but the psychology of them is good too)

A lot of what people carry for self defense are of such a small caliber that unless you shoot someone right in the face they probably aren't going to take a whole lot of notice. It's the same problem facing soldiers firing .223 rounds in Iraq/Afghanistan/Vietnam. Their reports are full instances where they hit the enemy two, three, four times and the victim just ignores it. Yes they die eventually but not until they start bleeding to death ten minutes after the fact, by which time they've probably done whatever they meant to do to you anyway.

The Desert Eagle might be original but that doesnt alter the fact that it kicks ass

Why you say this, Guns are the greatest things in the world
what are you a Democrat hippie
Because they are largely useless tools. Name me one use for a gun (fire arm) that doesn't end in something's destruction, they are pointless. They achieve nothing a baseball bat couldn't do, you can play baseball with a baseball bat as well.

They also attract only the kind of people who should not be allowed within a hundred paces of them. They attract the ill educated, the ignorant, the reactionery and the violent. None of whom make good candidates for the owners of a tool designed solely and specifically to destroy as quickly and efficiently as possible. If a person can't even construct a sentence, why do they believe they have the right to access a fire arm?
*surprised face*

Way to heap every gun owner, firearms enthusiast, target shooter, hunter and historian into one big shitty pile.

They attract only the kind of people who should not be allowed within a hundred paces of them? violent and ignorant people? Not that I wish to enter into a name calling match, but that does seem a touch ignorant of you.

Myself and several of my friends enjoy a good round of clay shooting, target shooting or a bit of game hunting. We don't harm anyone, annoy anyone or break the law. We just have fun. As for violent people, I wouldn't bust a grape in a fruit fight. Violence scares me. If you dont like guns or gun users, thats just fine. Just dont accuse us of being something we are not.

Off the record, have you ever fired a gun?

OT: I would have to say this is my favorite gun, it was a difficult decision to make though :p

I'm too stubborn for luck.

Your OP places no such restrictions. Speaking of which, glue guns are pretty awesome, they're handy for putting old Trans Ams back together. A welding and a spray gun would come in handy too, what year is it, '78-79?

I'm going to go and edit that post, it's badly worded.
What I meant is that they attract the wrong kind of person, not that all people who use them are the wrong kind. Having read it back yes that was pretty dumb, sort of like saying all people wearing fishnets are hookers.

silly question: how reliable are lever action rifles, and how do fire them from a prone psoition?
<spoiler=off the record>Actually yes, I've fired several. I've fired a few .22 popguns (God knows what they were, break action jobbies where you loaded the bullet one at a time), a Mauser 98 (1940's vintage one on Crete, very nice rifle), an L98 (bolt action variant of the L85, at the cadets) and I've shot at (and missed) deer with an SL-7.

Then in the last couple of years I've gone off guns entirely. Not sure why.
