So basically what is your favorite holiday? (and by favorite, I mean a holiday you actually enjoy taking part in and celebrating, not something like Labor Day because you probably get the day off)

For me it's Christmas, hands down and no, it's not for the presents, its for the genuine feel of peace and acceptance that seems to spread around the time of year. I love christmas and the way it makes me feel.

Around this time of year I'm already jamming out to christmas carols and music a lot like this:

Thanksgiving. Hardly any commercialism, just a time for some good old fashioned gluttony.

EDIT: and I wouldn't say Christmas has a "general feel of acceptance". At least not for Muslims, Jews, etc.

Halloween for me. Free candy aside the entire day is just awesome, you get an excuse to wear a ridiculous costume. There are parades and other awesome stuff, and of course the previously mentioned candy. Also it's the only holiday where i'm allowed to scare the shit out of children and not get in trouble for it.

Halloween! We get to dress up, have fun, and throw parties. I never see a problem with that. Plus we get to see people's creativity and show a little part of themselves.

Sidebar: Close second would be Gencon for the same reason.

I don't know about a holiday in particular, but I love Fall to the end of December. So I guess I just like the Holiday season in general.

Halloween month. At the beginning of the month my family gets fresh cider from an orchard, and I feel sorry for anyone who never taste fresh all natural cider. Next is the fall colors trip up north to my grandma's. After that when it's closer to Halloween my family has a night where we get wasted and go to haunted houses, which is the best time of my life. We crack ourselves up, and those spinning tunnels in some haunted houses are fucking awesome when plastered. Then the month wraps up with the annual anime convention Youmacon, and being a huge manga/anime fan it's awesome.

I used to love Christmas the most, but working in retail has kind of dulled the edges on that one. Not so much because of the "Commercialization" or what have you, but largely because by the time Christmas comes around I'm completely exhausted.

That being said, Halloween was always a big one in my books, and I think it's slowly usurping Christmas. I have a lot of great childhood memories of Halloween, and it's also one of the few holidays that actually makes my job more fun. I get to dress up and hand out candy to cute kids, it's awesome!

Christmas is when I catch up with all my extended family, and I like my family. That is pretty high on the list for purely secular reasons. As an Australian I don't celebrate Halloween or Thanksgiving.

Probably mine would be Melbourne Cup Day, I haven't had the day off in over five years but it is a great day to spend with mates. I don't go to the race but we used to have a picnic/BBQ in the park overlooking the racetrack, setup a sweep for the race and generally laze the day away while the kids run riot. Covering the race for work is one of the worst jobs I have had to endure though, I'm very happy to have organised leave the week of the race this year.

Close second would be Lunar New Year, I always have a good time for Lunar New Year.
