Ah, Indie Games, the field of innovation, of call backs, of new ideas, and occasionally bad execution. But everyone has a favorite game in this genre, ranging from the most well known like Minecraft, to the most obscure, like Delve Deeper. My question to you, oh citizens of Escaptopia, what is your favorite Indie Game?

Mine is La-Mulana's remake, it have platforming, Metroidvania gameplay, and puzzles-a-plenty.

I've got 2 at the moment, Minecraft and Bastion. I play Minecraft pretty regularly, and Bastion is so much fun.

Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale and Katawa Shoujo.

Cave Story is also a favourite, but I have yet to finish the game.

Well its hardly being published. Its being made by one guy from memory, so I'd say its indie, and I agree wholeheartedly with the choice of game.

Super Crate Box.

Simple objective, endless fun, and the f***ing thing keeps glitching and wiping my progress so I'm never short of things to unlock! Brilliant!

(Controls take a bit of getting used to, and after 50 crates or so I tend to start missing the buttons, but scoring by swapping weapons is great.)

Also, Hawken, I'm calling it. That's pretty much indie, and the amount those guys have done is phenomenal.

Probably Amnesia. One of the most high quality Indie games I've had the joy of picking up and cacking myself over, and it really brought something new to the table (unless you take their previous Penumbra games into consideration, but I like to think of them as older versions of Amnesia). A truly unique experience, wonderfully made, has SDK and results in fun with mates.

Right now, FTL.
Though my favourite indie game ever is Recettear: an item shop tale.

Bastion.
Amazing fun, well-priced, funny and touching.

Recettear.
Fucking hilarious, and surprisingly complex.

FTL.
A time sink among the stars, and a damn fine one at that.

Minecraft.
An explorer's wet dream.

Bastion. Great story, fantastic art style, fun gameplay, one of the best soundtracks ever IMO.

Games like FTL, Minecraft, Amnesia and Bastion have moved from the indie game into something like Indie+, what with all the hype and accolades they've received.

Anyway, I don't get a lot of time between major releases and replays to squeeze in too many lower profile games. I rest comfortably in the knowledge that if I ever lost my job and had to subside on one game for a year, Minecraft or Dwarf Fortress could easily tide me over that long. But for games I've actually played, I don't know, maybe the Spiderweb Software [www.spiderwebsoftware.com] games.

-edit-
I tried Recettear after someplace (maybe Escapist) recommended it. I couldn't get past the beginning, but it looked like once you got through all the fluff it might have been a blast.

Minecraft and Amnesia are the default I guess.

Other than that, I enjoyed World of Goo.Limbo and Super Meat Boy as well.

You probably have them then but IndieGameStand has the whole Geneforge Saga for Pay What You Want for like the next 12 hours. It gives you direct download + a GOG code and a steam key.

https://indiegamestand.com/

Even if you do have them then hopefully this might get some more people to try them. I love Geneforge.

Space Pirates and Zombies (and later with Pirates) was suprisingly awesome!
Gratuitous Space Battles a little less, but still entertaining.

Minecraft: Perfect timewaster.

Dustforce: Fast paced and skill based platfromer.

Bastion: have something in my eyes that is all...

Minecraft is my favourite for wasting time and generally having fun with creating stuff.
To The Moon is my favourite for story. Easily the best indie game I've played so far this year.
Amnesia for horror, I guess. That game scared the hell out of me.
FTL and Recettear were also fun games, but I would have liked a bit more content in them.

Dungeons of Dredmor. I would like FTL if there was less luck involved in unlocking new things. Dredmor gets roguelike done *perfectly.* Death usually means you screwed up, or at least the illusion of it is spot on.

Well I am very fond of a new addition to the ranks that goes by the name of: Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit
Essentially it's the next Jazz Jackrabbit, but obviously had to be made by indies on account of Cliffy B. going color blind and mental.

Edit: for those who will be checking out this on Steam it is worth mentioning that the system requirements (Vista/DirectX10/DirectX10 graphics card with 512MB) are as per usual a straight up lie, this thing will run on a calculator if need be.

I don't know Cave Story (but I'll be getting it considering my top 2 titles were the same) but yes, Recettear is just fucking AWESOME, and Katawa Shoujo is moving, I finished all the endings.
