Your favorite lesser known band

So escapists, what bands do you like that aren't considered " mainstream" ?
I'm talking more Be your own pet and Karnivool , rather than Tool and Metallica.

The Protomen are great, with their two-act (so far) rock opera that's a darker interpretation of the Mega Man series, and Powerglove is a power metal band that does covers of classic game music really well.
Those are my big favorites.
