yeah, its too bad grunge isnt emo, and thats an insult against some of the greatest musicians to hit the earth. And far better then some of the other garbage thats been coming out.

Actually, wasn't being crappy musicians the whole point of grunge?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was...

Nicely played, although I'd argue that Johnsburg, Illinois the song he wrote for Kathleen is his most touching song.

Brian Wilson could really put a song together...

If being uneducated and black is the point of rap, if you want to make general statements.

Though, looking at sales and existence of bands, its hard to say Grunge artists where crappy musicians. Kurt Cobain still inspires and is put as a figure of comparison, nirvana is still a high selling, often played on the radio band. Layne Staley lists as an arguable top Ten vocalist, and Alice in Chains still tours and puts out new music, what with their new lead DuVall. Pearl Jam is still around, still grossing insane amounts of money.

Bands like Soundgarden, Temple of a Dog, and Stone Temple Pilots all still have a rather large following as well.

ANd grunge itself inspired many a bands after them, such as Creed, Foo Fighters, Matchbox Twenty, and Bush.

So, no, the point of grunge wasnt crappy music. It was putting out music, without a major commercial success that was seen. They wanted to be the underground movement that gave the tense period of Bush Sr. tax hikes and aggression against "the man" a way of coming out in a none violent way. Thats why as the good times rolled through with Clinton's (also with leaders of grunge bands dying) term, Grunge began to fade out into the Post grunge, then finally going into the soft/alt. rock that American trends having going now.

My ex-girlfriend used to mock me for liking "Come What May" from Moulin Rouge.

I can't help it, though.

There are a few more I like, by different artists, but that's the standout.

Looking at sales and existence of bands, you would be forced to admit that the Beatles were the best musicians ever. Being popular or even having good music has absolutely no indicator of whether you are a good musician or not. Kurt Cobain's skill level could be best be described as "basic", but as it turned out simple, basic music was what was necessary to make waves in the music scene at that time, having just come off the complexity of acts like Van Halen.

Not that their music is bad, they just weren't good musicians.

I really like 'Contrecoup' by They Might Be Giants. I mostly like the story behind it. Basically they're well known for writing songs about unusual subjects but also for being able to do so really quickly and still produce something good.

A radio show host challenged John Linnell to write a song containing the words 'contrecoup' (a type of head injury where the brain becomes bruised on the opposite side to the initial blow from bouncing off the skull), 'limerent' (intense one-sided love), and 'craniosophic' (to do with phrenology, the study of the bumps on peoples heads to judge their personality).

So he wrote a song, in one afternoon no less, about someone who suffers a blow to the head which makes them realise their love for a phrenologist but also renders them unable to communicate their newly realised feelings.

'Contrecoup, on the rebound
Contrecoup hurt me again
And the second was worse by far than the first
Cause the first one woke my feelings for you
But the contrecoup made my words untrue
And it left me limerent'

I got a few. See, i was once in a love triangle with my best frie... Wait, that's not your business!
Anyways, I had a few that pop every now and again on my MP3

1: Seal - Kiss from a Rose.

Found that one on the Soundtrack of Batman And Robin. Shoesmaker (Pun intended) may be a terrible director but that song almost make up for the movie. Keyword being almost.

2: Puddle of Mud (?) - Blurry

The first time i listened to this, i was taking back to a specific time in my life (See first line). It's reminded me of my past and it's a great song... that i found out when i first pop in Ace Combat 5.

3: Yellowcard - Light up the Sky

...
...
Shut up!

Never said The Beatles werent. Just said that that song was more conventional.

And besides, An entire generation and generations after enjoy grunge. I'm not saying other genres are bad (well... new age "rap" is, but thats a different discussion since that has to go into autotuner), but grunge certainly isnt a bad genre, nor were the bands in it. Its in the ear of the listener, but to just write it off as emo music whose listeners need a hug is as degrading the genre as much as saying all rap is for black people that never heard of a belt (which... well... that can sometimes be argued. Thats another different conversation between Rap of the Tupac/Biggie era and the "rap" of today. But generally thats just wrong).

And how you can say that their musicians werent good is beyond me, since I could make a list of the musicians I find bad and would probably piss off a bunch of people (since it would include people like the Guns n' Roses, Iron Maiden, Eric Clapton [I know, I included him on the list, but that song is great, and would sound great coming from anyone with the right tone]).
