Alright, so I topic searched this and found crap. Link to an old thread if it's been done.

As far as image goes, I'm a fan of innovative yet traditional character designs. New flavors with an old-school aftertaste, you might say. But image only goes so far, and personality is what seals the deal. When you get down to it though, sometimes image is great enough to stand on its own. Even if the character's persona is as wooden as my dinner table, I can still appreciate the detail and effort put into the outfit by the artist. I'm not an artist, I'm not even that good at stick figures, but I know something is good when I see it.

So what male and/or female character design has stuck with you since you first glanced upon it? What about it just clicks with you? Do you imagine yourself wearing a similar design in that universe (or this one?), or do you just appreciate the level of detail (or lack thereof)? Does the character's personality or story endear you to him/her even more, or is the attraction purely aesthetic?

This can also include comic book and cartoon characters. In fact, I'd say you could go so far as to post a character you created, so long as you have a fully drawn picture, not concept sketches. Use links and/or spoilers for images, please.

Pictures appreciated, but not required.

My picks:
Hotsuma - Shinobi(2002)

This guy takes "Badass Ninja" to a whole 'nother level. A one-note personality, sure, but it serves his story, which wasn't meant to be an opus in human emotion anyway. Definitely from the Ryu Hyabusa school of "flip-out" ninja-ness, I love this design for the reasons I stated earlier: it's an amalgam of the old and new. He's from the future, utilizing the practical technology and fashion of his time, yet his persona is steeped in tradition.

Also, his scarf is crazy awesome.

Shiki - Samurai Shodown

Chicks with swords. How can you not love 'em, amirite? This one I hold in higher regard though, for being one of the most original I've seen, ever. She just gushes raw personality; emotional, sexy, badass. Doesn't have the most epic backstory to go with it, but again, it serves its purpose well, even more so for a fighting game. Her Bust design (the last picture) I like as well, but it just feels a bit too "generic evil chick", and doesn't hold a candle to the original.

Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to try out her fighting style myself, but it's almost scary how much it reflects her character. Swift, elegant, and sensual; it has to be one of the most original Twin Sword styles ever conceived. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HuycsoLTn4

That fact that she continues to show up in SNK games just tells that I'm not alone in my appreciation of this design.

Remember: Just ONE from each gender. If you have too many to choose from, then just throw their names into a hat, shake it, and take one out. Or don't post, whichever.

Now this is a topic I can get behind, hard! ....sorry ^^'

Anyway:
Ben Throttle

Just so evocative of so many heroes, super or otherwise to count. Rough gritty face and a squared off jaw and an awesome set of bikers gear to boot.

And for the femmes:

SHODAN

Almost appearing to be little more than a logo in and of herself...she's just so sinister, and a lot of that has to do with her blank emotionless stare, buzzing with pure electronic evil.

There are a lot of awesome characters out there, it really is hard to pick one from each gender, but I'll give it a go.

For male I'll pick Beyond the Grave from the Gungrave games (and the anime based on them).

Just look at this guy, he's a Mobster Zombie Cowboy who carries a huge coffin on his back loaded with guns. The guy is a total badarse.

My female choice is the sexy Vanessa Z Schneider from P.N.03.

A cool futuristic mercenary, Vanessa isn't the typical heroine of this genre. What makes her totally awesome is that she dances to the beat of the background music in the game while taking on murderous robots.

Those are my picks.

I dont have time to figure out how to find pics so just roll with me here.

Main character from Crysis. He is a badass who doesnt show his face so I can imagine he looks like me.

And Cortana was my favorite female design.

Oh I wish the companion cube could be an option.

As far as female characters go, probably the strongest I have ever seen in a game is Kreia [http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Kreia] from Knights of the Old Republic II. She is not particularly attractive (certainly no Lara Croft), and is the driving force behind the game's excellence - I'd say that she is worth the price of admission alone, and not for simple surface factors. She completely changed my perspective on games as a narrative device.

What makes her so excellent in my mind, though, is how right from the beginning Obsidian construct her as being a central figure in the game, yet do a perfect job of never telling you exactly why. In a sense, she is more the main character than the player is. She has all the game's best dialogue (and that is saying something), with stuff that still sends shivers up my spine even though I've heard it five times before. Her voice actress is incredible and plays the role amazingly. It's not so much stopping the Sith that brings you through the game, but rather the want to unravel Kreia's mysterious background and figure out her intentions. Of course, they wind up being malicious, but when you find out some of the things that she orchestrates throughout the game, it hits you like a ton of bricks and you gain a new respect for her, only to have to topped yet again later in the game. More than anything, she feels real, with a background, motivations, methods, and proper ones at that, not just excuses to keep the game going. She's the kind of character that is disgusting, frightening, compelling, inviting and incredibly likable, all at once, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

As far as male characters go, look no further than my avatar. Always on board with the sneaky thief characters.

Female characters? Same church, different pew---I simply adore Celes Chere and find her character development to be a delight. The scene in the World of Ruin after failing the fish minigame is the single most potent emotional moment in gaming history.

Here are my choices:
Richard B. Riddick from Pitch Black (The Chronicles of Riddick)
Played by Vin Diesel

I just loved the character Riddick since the first time I saw the movie Pitch Black.
I'm not really good at describing characters nor do I currently have the time.
There's no better way to get to know the Riddick character than to watch Pitch Black.
There are other movies, and games but I think Pitch Black is the best and most descriptive one of Riddick.

In short:
The most hunted criminal in the known universe.
Riddick have special eyes which grants him night vision, but also makes him very sensitive to bright light. Hence the goggles.
The most badass character ever.
Expert Close Combat Fighter.
Extraordinary Physique.
Delivers a lot of one-liners. (most of which are made of pure badass)
River Tam from Firefly
Played by Summer Glau

Now I've already said I'm not very good at describing people or characters but most of you should know about River Tam.
If you don't, shame on you!
Watch the tv show Firefly and the movie serenity If you have not already.

In short:
Pure genius, Psychic, Insane.
She's arguably the smartest person alive.
Was sent to a special school for highly intelligent people, though the school was secretly owned by the evil government who brain-raped her to turn her into a psychic.
This struck her with a bad case of insanity. The government did a lot of experiments on her, some of which turned her into a martial arts master and a pretty effective killing machine.
Her insanity ranges from almost-vaguely-sane to fetal-in-the-corner-blabbering-gibberish. Has also been known to go Ax-crazy on occasion.
Intelligent, graceful, lethal and absolutely beautiful.

Female:
<------

Male:
Not sure, Mario? He was made with the limitations of 80's arcade machines in mind. Couldn't do hair properly back then, so he had a hat. Wore overalls so the walking and climbing animatins would look better. Had a moustache so his big nose was more distinguishable. Can't fault Nintendo for making wise choices with their character designs back then.

Best male and female? Too hard to decide, there are so damn many...

For guys, I'm handing this one to Richter Belmont, of Castlevania fame. Just look at him. http://www.cf-network.com/cfan/IMG/jpg/Castlevania_Symphony_of_the_Night_06.jpg

As for women, Aria Advance from Super Robot Wars W. One of the most badass girls in the entire series, as well as having one of the best tracks in the game.

I didn't ask what was the best. I'm not talking about something that stands the test of time. I asked what your personal favorite is. Which character is so cool/likeable/deep that you wish you had thought of it?

Female
Tali'Zorah nar Rayya (from Mass Effect)
I think the Mass Effect universe was very well thought out and out of all the various races that feature in it, the quarians interested me the most. The idea that every single person in their entire race has to be useful would already be daunting for a young quarian, but the fact that Tali's father is a promient figure in the quarian fleet puts even more pressure on her to succeed. Because of this, Tali comes off as a dedicated and hard-working member of your crew.
Her appearence matches the lore behind her race, in that you cannot see her face properly as she has to constantly wear a protective space suit no matter where she is. Also the whole 'dark coloured clothes' thing is quite assassin which is always cool.

Male
Vic (from Fallout 2)
Ah, he's just funny.
