RED was far and away the best movie I've seen in a long time.

Sadly, I don;t get out to the movies anywhere near as often as I would like.

For me, Drive just did not only exceed my expectations it went even further. The director, actors, editor, and the guy who does the lighting gave it their 110%.

The only thing left to come out this year that i have interest in seeing is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

what is your favorite movie of 2011?
I'll have to agree with Drive.
At least so far.
Well done, gritty, dark and Ryan Gosling was phenomenal, not to mention Albert Brooks in the most non Albert Brooks role ever.

Though, I'll admit that the films I really want to see have yet to be released anywhere near me, unfortunately.
A Dangerous Method, The Descendants, Shame (what I suspect will be my favourite of the year), Melancholia and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy have all yet to be released here so Drive might fall to those.

I'm curious to know how The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo will be considering the original is one of my all time favourite movies.

Senna.

Incredibly well made, and brought up such incredible emotions, a brilliant, moving film (doco).
I really want to see this, havn't had the chance yet...

Sadly, I don't make many trips to the cinema, but I really liked Sucker Punch. And out of personal opinion, loved Hobo with a Shotgun.
Yes and Hell Yes! Sucker Punch was an awesome film, great action, very strange story. And Hobo with a Shotgun was exactly what I expected it to be like FECKIN AMAZING! You can't go wrong with Rutger Hauer.

Special mention goes to Paul, as the Simon Pegg and Nick Frost never fail to disappoint, and Horrible Bosses, I didn't expect that to be a good film, bloody funny.

Hugo. Good setting, amazing characters, interesting plot, cool plot devices, good side stories, made you feel good inside.

The length, however, makes it a movie i won't rewatch soon.

Captain America has got to be the most fun I've had at the movies in a LOOOOOOONG time. I rarely go to the theatre to watch a movie twice. The only other times I've done so were for Toy Story 3 and Revenge of the Sith.

The Guard has probably been my favourite, mainly because it reminded me a lot of "In Bruges" which is one of, if not my favourite, comedies.
The last Harry Potter was surprisingly good, and I enjoyed both Thor and Captain America.
Hopefully Sherlock Holmes will shoot straight to the top but I probably won't get to see that until 2012.

EDIT: After perusing the thread a little more an honorable mention goes to Hobo with a Shotgun, not the best grind-house I have ever seen but damn good none the less.

I haven't been to the movies this year. I was going to see Harry Potter but I was busy.

I wish I had a film that is challenging and provocative on top of my 2011 list. I really do.

Kung Fu Panda 2.

13 Assassins.... wait isn't that 2010? Ah I dunno. It's the only film I've seen in ages! And it's amazing. I love how it starts out all cliche'd but gets really dark and then turns into one great action film! And it had an awesome character in it named Kiga who is so damn mysterious that it's COOL. =P

It's a rare thing when comedy is written as actual comedy, and not just written as the usual "stupid/gross = funny". Unlike a certain OTHER movie that made shitloads of cash last summer despite not being funny at all.

It wasn't a great year for movies I must admit, unlike Music and Gaming which both had their fair share of good stuff this year.

However, Hobo with a Shotgun was a fantastic Grind-House esque film, and it was so unashamedly offensive it was unreal. I seriously don't know how they go away with most of the shit that was on there.

I haven't seen too many movies this year, but Rise of the Planet of the Apes really took me by surprise. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did.

I would say it's this year's Tangled.
