Now that the year is over, I was wondering what the people on the Escapist consider their favorite movies of 2012. I'm still catching up on a lot of last years films, but here are my favorites:
Cloud Atlas
Django Uncahined
The Hobbit
Dark Knight Rises
Lincoln
Wreck it Ralph
Paranormon
The Master
Argo

I barely watched any films this year, the ones I did watch have quickly disappeared from my memory behind a glaze of mediocrity. The ONLY exception would be The Dark Knight Rises which was totally awesome. A little bit too slow to get rolling perhaps but still really good.

Was How to Train Your Dragon released this year? I'm guessing not but it was on TV and it was totally awesome.

Well, not sure if this counts, as I believe the movie was made back in '09, but it got released here last year, and it was undoubtedly my favourite of the year... Cabin in the Woods. Just, wow! It both parodied and mastered the horror genre, and the ending is probably one of the craziest you'll ever see.

Argo
Cosmopolis
The Dark Knight Rises
Django Unchained

Also two movies I saw at a film fest:

Samurai (Argentine, a samurai and a gaucho team up in 19th century Argentina)
Doomsday Book (South Korean, three stories about the apocalypse: a zombie outbreak, a robot attaining Nirvana, and a very funny incoming-meteorite story)

My three favorites would have to be Paranorman, Wreck it Ralph, and Cabin in the Woods. Although there are a few movies that I have yet to see (Cloud Atlas, Django Unchained, Zero Dark Thirty, and maybe Lincoln) that might add to that list.

Edit: How the hell could I forget about The Hobbit!? Anyway, The Hobbit is also one of my favorite movies from last year.

I didn't watch much of the new stuff as I just noticed so this might be a good referal thread, but what I did watch:
- Hobbit, was the best thing I came across, yes the camera tech made it spazzy and editors have no clue about story telling but still a great adventure

- Dredd, sadly money was spent on sparkley drug effects rather then setting the scene but very well made otherwise

- Wreck it Ralph, not the top cartoon of all time but a very charming ride

Les Miserables, Looper, The Hobbit, The Dark Knight Rises, Cloud Atlas, and even though I only just saw it last night, Django Unchained. The Grey was also really good, particularly for a January film, and Chronicle was a very interesting film that I wish had been longer than it was.

The Hobbit
The Avengers
Django Unchained
Cabin in the Woods

Those are probably my favorites from 2012, though I have yet to see any of the animated movies from this past year. I need to get on that...

The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption (the most fun I've had watching a movie).
Pitch Perfect (a super, super funny movie that also has quite a lot of heart behind it).
Cloud Atlas (an ambitious and spellbinding movie).
Avengers/Dark Knight Rises (both really enjoyable movies, even though they're quite different).
Argo (funny, thrilling and tells an important story).

My top 5/6, depending on whether or not you count ties as a single slot. Yay!

I didn't see a huge number of movies in 2012 but got to go with a tie between the Hobbit and Les Miserables, both great in their own way.

It got released a few years back, it now is a TV series.

The Avengers, The Hobbit, Wreck it Walph.

Django Unchained only got released this month so I can't really include it in a 2012 list. (Stupid New Zealand release dates)

I saw a lot of movies (like I do every year), but the one that really stuck out for me was Moonrise Kingdom. I just thought it a really great movie, funny, poignant, and had a feel-good story to it
