Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix. But if we're talking about "intelligent" novels, then I'll go with Hamlet. I liked it more than Macbeth because I actually liked the protagonist.

Mein Kampf

OT: I've always loved Fight Club. After changing my life, that book holds a special place in my heart, and it always will. A good WW2 book I read for ROTC is Company Commander by Charles MacDonald, and I got into it pretty quick.

Either The Beach by Alex Garland or The Perfect Storm By Sebastian Junger. I also like Life Of Pi by Yann Martel. Funny; my top 3 favorite books are all to do with the sea.

Oh I forgot, Heavier Than Heaven By Charles R Cross (a biography about Kurt Cobain) has to be one of the best biographies ever written, at least about musicians.

I hate to sound like a tool, but Fight Club, right after that. . . probably the "Dexter" series.

The Amulet of Samarkand. It's funny AND well-written.
I'd almost forgotten about this one. I always saw it as Artemis Fowl but better and not dragged out for 20 something books (well thats what it feels like). It's a simular premise; an evil child genius caught up in a world of magic and monsters where neither side are the good guys. Deffinitly worth a read.

The Last Don - Mario Puzo
The GodFather - Mario Puzo
The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown (The film was alright, not as good as the book though)
Anything by Tolkien
The Secret of Santa Vittoria - Robert Crichton
The Years of Rice and Salt - Kim Stanley Robinson

Those are my favourites off the top of my head, there's more, probably. Though I've never read a Harry Potter book, some of the films are pretty good.

Edit: Forgot to add ALL of the Red Dwarf books, they're awesome.

A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess is the greatest book ever in my opinion.
Other good ones include:
It by Steven King (actually, anything by Steven King)
Harry Potter and the ___ of ___ by JK Rowling
The Keys To The Kingdom Series by Garth Nix

I enjoyed the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson, as well as the first couple Odd Thomas books by Dean Koontz. Also, one of my favorite books of all time is Firstborn by Tonya C. Cook and Paul B. Thompson. I liked the other two books in the trilogy but they just didn't live up to the first.

I can't believe I forgot about The Beach, that novel was amazing. The film was a major let down though.

The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy (trilogy of four), by Douglas Adams.
I'm currently reading through War and Peace (I'm enjoying it immensely at any rate), by Leo Tolstoy.
The Liar, by Stephen Fry.
Catch 22, by Joseph Heller.
His Dark Materials trilogy, by Phillip Pullman.
The Discworld books, by Terry Pratchett.
And if you want a laugh, try Katie Price's autobiography, then imagine her writing it (yeah, you can't do it can you?).

Edit: And you must read the Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse. Writing styles like Robert Rankin's, Terry Pratchett's and Douglas Adams's inspire me greatly.

I like fantasy books by Tolkien and Robert Jordan, but also novels by Orwell and Camus. I'd say that my single favourite novel would have to be The Outsider (also known as The Stranger) by Albert Camus. Robert Harris and Ken Follett are also novelists who's work I enjoy.
