Say what you want about it, but I personally loved it. Especially the part immediately following this where you run through the ship in a straightjacket. Not the best of all time, but the best one I can remember.

I'd say "any Fallout game", but Fallout 2 really distinguishes itself as the best of the lot.

Hogs of War's opening is a classic, don't know if anyone will remember it on the Playstation?

I like the openings of the Total War series as well, they all show off what the game is capable of and leave you really wanting to play, rather then forcing story at you.

I think we can all agree that this cinematic deserves some love:

If I may sir, the original Red Alert 2 opening was much more deserving of love. The epic in that just that bit of film was overwhelming, from the live action scene to the beginning when Hell March kicks in with CGI Kirovs... Well anyway here is the video:Also, Left 4 Dead was pretty good. I'm listing these off the top of my head anyway.

FFX has one of the best openings. The music, the quick dialogue, and the scene all blend together perfectly. Now that was a hook for me. Then once after you beat the game and replay it, the opening is just like a sledgehammer. Gets me everytime.

Final Fantasy 10's opening was quality in my opinion

Mass Effect 2's was pretty epic. Other than that, Morrowind's was pretty cool. Although it wasn't grandious, there was something quite engaging about climbing on deck and seeing the world for the fist time. It's an elderscrolls thing, you won't understand.

Fun game, shame the prequal never made it over here and it just kinda disappeared.

I know it's already been said, but I really did love the opening for Mass Effect 2.

That was until I was forced to watch the thing EVERY SINGLE TIME I started a new play through. I'd boot it up, walk away and go get snacks or something.

That and Bioshock. That one was pretty damn awesome as well.
