P-38 Lightning. In my opinion, it's one of the most unique aircraft and the most successful to come out of the heavy fighter idea(Beaufighters weren't bad either but were less capable against fighter aircraft). These machines flew on all fronts of the battlefield from the very beginning of US involvement in the war to the very end. It was the most successful multirole aircraft of its time, having no real liabilities with the exception of maybe locking up in a dive and killing you.

Fictional? The Xcom Raven. How badass of a plane do you need to be to shoot down a space ship with little to no modification? Pretty fucking badass.

My personal favourite would be the Supermarine Spitfire. If you have ever seen one fly you'll know why. They are poetry in motion, so fast, so agile, so beautiful. They also sound awesome.

I also have a soft spot for the SR-71 in terms of pure speed and aesthetic.


In terms of fictional craft, if I can bend the rules and choose spacecraft, I'd go for the SSV Normandy SR2 and the Ebon Hawk. Both are equally majestic.

Love it's smooth rounded shapes, and even the prostethic-limb color. I'm not really big on aircraft so I can't actually qualify my preference here in any way... I fly this one [http://i.imgur.com/q04PuyU.jpg] in Warthunder, and it's great! Turns better than almost any of the mono-wing planes it goes up against, so getting the upper hand in the sort of low-level dogfighting arcade battles always end up being isn't too dificult even though I am terrible.

I also quite like the MiG-21, I think that is my favorite jet fighter.

I just wanted to take part in a forum thread where I could make a tiny little contribution to all the voices, and was hoping at least this time people wouldn't decide it was worth making a huge fuzz over.
