I named my Lucario "Megaman" because he's a blue, he's fighting/steel type, and he shoots blasts of energy from his hand.
I'll have to remember that one. It fits so well, now that you explain it. Dang, now I want to nickname a Bisharp as Protoman :p

ThunderSpider.

I used it for my Joltik/Galvantula, and it just rolls off the tongue.

I like it so much I use it as my ID for League of Legends and Origin, because my usual choices, "Shock" and "Shockolate", were taken.

I named my Tepig 'Ganonpork'. I found it rather funny or witty, especially with his final evolution. I have others but, probably not good enough to post though.

Actually, I have another which is pretty awesome. Zebro, the Zebstrika.

I wanted to be a priest, so I named my Arceus "God" and my Manaphy "Holy Water".

Let's take it one step further; Shedinja can be Jesus! He's the resurrected shell of Shedinja, and the halo certainly fits.

Even in the pokemon world, Megaman will always beat him. Though this time it's because of his 4x weakness to Lucario's signature move. The dark type suits Protoman too since he made his debut working for Wily.

My main grass starter badasses are thus:

Blubasaur - Bud
Chikorita - Herbal
Treeko - Rizilla
Turtwig - Epicus
Snivy - Valentine

I've never been a massive Chikorita, my favourite 2nd gen starter being Mr. Nice the Feraligator. Although, that was back before I was typing an actual nickname in-game, it's just what me and my mates called him cause he was UNSTOPPABLLLLLLLLLLE!!!!

I actually loved Steel types, so I'd opt to name things after elements

Steelix was named "Titanium" (on account of it's defences)

Metagross was named "Tungsten" (because it was heavy, and could hit well, reminiscent of a tank shell, especially with Meteor Mash)

Salamence was named "Magnesium" (on account of his Draconic nature and breating fire and what all)

Garchomp was named "Cobalt" (because of the blue skin color)

I was thinking at one point of a Dragonite named "Aurum" [gold] for that same reason

Now, I just name then with what seems to fit, such as my female Volcorona I named "Sunburst"

I only recently (Black and White) started giving my pokemon nicknames, but I realize now that i enjoy it. Especially in a pseudo-nuzlocke run. where losing the pokemon has actual meaning. Of course, the classic humor of Butts the Pidgey is too good to pass up.

...if only Koffing/Weezing could learn SonicBoom... until then, Butts! use Gust!

I want to make a team of all the Gozilla-like monsters named after their likenesses, but I can never remember their names.

A lead Machamp named "Milk".

A Sceptile named "Chlorokill"

A Haxorus named "Paarthunax".

A Jirachi named "SackRabbit"

And, most recently, a Samurott named "Walter" and a Lucario named "Jesse".

Normally, I don't bother.

The one time I did, it was numbers. Purely numbers, possibly preceded by "#". Partially to give a sense of cool detachment (and parody all those supposedly wise people saying how strong our bond was, which was only really strengthened by using them as weapons to beat other weapons and take their master's money). That, and I suppose it felt kinda unique, so...yeah.

I myself am usually very unoriginal with nicknaming my pokemon (Eg. I dubbed my Squirtle 'Squirt' and my Torchic 'Blaze'), However my cousin came up with something I thought was kinda funny.

On his copy of Pokemon Black, He had a Zoroark named "None" and a Magmortar named "FuksIGiv". He put Magmortar at the back of his party so that Zoroark's illusion ability disguised him as FuksIGiv, sent him out first, and you can probably guess the outcome after 'FuksIGiv' was attacked and revealed to be 'None'.

I like the name them (as best I can with the word limit the names have) after celebrities, seeing someone on YouTube do it just blew my mind. Something like "ASH uses George Lopez" will always get a little chuckle from me. X3

You have a good point. I guess I'll just have to up the stakes.
Prepare to face my army of robot masters. Tremble before Heat Man (Heatran), Cut Man (Scizzor), Wood Man (Ferrothorn), Spark Man (Magnezone), Bubble Man (Empoleon), Napalm Man (Genesect), Air Man (Skarmory), and Snake Man (Steelix). Can you face them all?

This
and the fact that it took me so long to come up with nicknames I stopped even trying.

I have a theme going on with most of the 'alligator' pokemon:
My original Soulsilver Feraligatr- Chomper
His son is named 'Chompy'

In pokemon black, I named my Sandile "Cruncher"
and now in white 2, I named my new Sandile "Crunchy"

I freaking love Those pokemon. Chomper is my Favorite!

I have a croconaw in soulsilver named KRAWNK! since it looks like a caveman.
in white
Jack the sammurott a reference to samurai Jack. originally jacksammer as a dual reference to the sammer guys from super paper mario but it wasn't very catchy.
A stoutland named Boozer for the idea of of being a St.Bernard and the whole whisky thing.
A beartic named Skookums which is apparently Pacific Northwest jargon for either something big and powerful.
And a Golurk named Rockwell for the town in the Iron Giant.

and in White 2 an Emboar named Fatback and a sewaddle named Sewey (With a little star next to it)
