Well, I suppose this song works along those lines:
Some other users have said it has a melancholic feel to it... I suppose it does.
It fills me with a contented sadness. An odd feeling.
Actually, this is just the song I needed right now...
EDIT: Also, this song... for some strange reason...
perhaps it is the deeper meaning behind the facade that seems happy...

Although, I typically avoid songs that make me sad, the best one I know, would probably be Zoe Jane by Staind.

it gets me every time.

Alive by Pearl Jam. Not so much sad as it is melancholy sounding. It makes me feel real down, right until the awesome free-style guitar solo, which kicks ass. MAJOR ASSAGE!

mine would be Into Eternity by Into Eternity, off their first album named...you guessed it, Into Eternity.

it's a song about a guy on the verge of death, and he's afraid to die. the chorus goes, "and then he stared into the sky, feeding his fright, denying. feeling the pain, hear the screaming, 'i don't wanna die, don't wanna die'"

it just kinda hits close to home for me, not sure why.

my other one, Sillouhettes by Smile Empty Soul. this song has always held personal meaning for me, because my mom has always been afraid of things to remain unnamed, and my dad just gave up on his family and personal well-being, before i was old enough to understand swear words...you know..back when you think "shut up" is a bad word? yeah, around that time.

so Sillouhettes, by SES, is kinda like a personal reminder for me.

4st 7lbs by the Manic Street Preachers and Lady Stardust by David Bowie always make me feel quite blue.

4st 7lbs is about the mentality of an anorexic girl, Lady Stardust is about a stifled sense of identity and sexuality.

Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water (live 1969 version)

Such a beautiful sentiment and Art Garfunkel sings the hell out of this song, on this version especially as it was one of the first times they performed the song live.

Into the West - Annie Lennox (LOTR soundtrack)

At first it didn't make me too sad but then I watched the special features on the extended edition and found out that the real life inspiration for the song was a young New Zealand film maker who died of cancer and it just makes me think of him and how depressing it is that someone so young and full of potential had their life cut short. But the song itself is extremely beautiful and my love of the books makes me love the song too.

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah

You saw my name, you new it was coming. Just the best cover of this song period. And that voice, so talented, and such a waste that he died so young.

When you're gone - Avril La-something.
It's one of the only songs that has actually managed to make me cry, although, I think it's more to do with the video.
