Most of Alien(s), Predator and crossover movies. (yes, yes, even Requiem, it wasn't a masterpiece, but it wasn't bad!)

Starship Troopers, even though cheesy as **** was also good.

War of the Worlds was ok-ish as a movie. But if I had to choose, my money would go on the musical, not the movie. Now that's ace.

Men in Black as a universe, even though the movies started losing ground after the first one. The animation comic was really good though. If someone hasn't seen it, go do it.

Independence day was ok.

Oh,and do NOT watch skyline for anything. It was the most dissapointing movie ever...by the time it finally becomes nice, BAM, ending for no reason other than forcing to watch 2 movies instead of one. That ending doesn't even make sense and leaves half the plot empty!

Spaceballs, need I say more?

Serenity & Pitch Black are other favorites of mine.

Son of a *****. How the hell could I forget about Iron Giant? I loved that movie.
And yet it sank Warner Brothers Animation. Can you believe it?
yeah cause the director went to pixar after he made it:)

OT: Aliens for me. i mean who doesnt just love a movie were the lines "Game over man, GAME OVER!" are said just minites away from "We nuke the site from orbit, its the only way to be sure.".........i think ive seen that movie a few too many times

Definitely Starship Troopers.
I was always a bit of a fan of Event Horizon too, not sure if it counts as an 'alien' film mind.

And thank God for that, otherwise we'd never have gotten The Incredibles.

Galaxy Quest - I'd say to watch it just watch for Sam Rockwell, but then you'd be missing the rest of this hysterical ride
Starship Troopers - Robert Heinlien meets Paul Verhoeven; need I say more?
Titan A.E. - I missed this one growing up, but I was able to fully appreciate it as an adult: what a wonderous film
Pitch Black - I tire of movies easily, but I could rewatch this one until Earth freezes over

The Cat From Outer Space (from 1978). It's a good alien/science fiction family movie :)

I will separate mine by category, because I cannot decide the order. Star Trek and Star Wars were never on my lists to begin with, but I did enjoy all those movies alright! (excluding the three prequels to Starwars)

Here are the alien oriented movies I like most:
The Serious movies
Alien
District 9

The Fun Movies
Aliens
Predator

I can't decide an exact order because my mood for serious or fun changes all the time.

For the space movie I would have to say Moon [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1182345/] starring Sam Rockwell. I just thought it was really well done, and Rockwell gives a great performance
This.

But since you took my first answer, I'll also say that I loved the first half of Sunshine before it got all weird and "horror-y".

When it comes to making a good space movie, it's all about the subtle details. Those "huh, I never thought of it like that before" moments can make or break an sci-fi movie.

District 9, simply because it treats the aliens with a bit more respect. I've always found the antagonizing of extraterrestrial beings in fiction a bit racist.

alien, aliens

pitch black/chronicles

blade runner tho it takes place on earth there is space stuff in that universe.

i remember liking outlander alot with sean connery back in the day but i not seen it in over a decade i would guess wonder if that still holds up.

district 9 was great, avatar can die in a fire.

serenity was good, not great, so many dropped plot lines from the series, but was ok for a movie.

2001 gorgeous movie especially considering when it was made.

...Forbidden Planet is seriously a must see if you haven't see it.

its got Robby the Robot, a brilliant 1950s flying saucer, a mad scientist, Oscar nominated special effects animated by Disney, is a retelling of Shakespeare's The Tempest and Leslie Nielsen looks about 20 or something in it...
The invisible id monsters (with that wierdo backgroud music) used to scare the hell out of me when I was a kid.

For those of you who love all things sci-fi and kitsch, check out the space1970 [//space1970.blogspot.co.uk/] blog - 'tis pretty good.

Oh, and OT I'm surprised this hasn't got a mention yet:

Leslie Nielsen's presence makes it impossible for me to watch Forbidden Planet without thinking the whole thing is being played deadpan for laughs.

Anyone ever see the second Heavy Metal movie? I'll list it here simply because it had hot chicks in it.

Wing Commander was a fun sort of Top Gun in SPACE.

All time fave Sci Fi movie would probably have to be Fifth Element.

Does the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy count?
Also love the hell out of Alien, Aliens and Spaceballs.
