Your favorite type of villian?

I'm not a Batman fan so correct me if wrong but....

Isn't the thing with the Joker he does have a reason for everyting he does? And that reason is simple. He sees society and it's values as a lie, human beings can't work together and the only proper interaction would be doing whatever you want not constrained by morality or legality. As they are artifical constructs and the Joker believes in something purer.

He is of course wrong, but he is tragic for being so. He dresses up like a clown but is screaming inside that the audience doesn't get the joke. It's society, it always is. But they treat him like he's insane. Joker sees himself as a man tearing up the lies of civilisation. He's the sane one. He's both lying and screaming at the madness of the world for believing in what it does.

The Joker to me is the ultimate expression of freedom, particuarly compared to Batman's issuses with self-control. He does. He is. And he can't understand why he's alone in doing this. Why people persist in acting like he's wrong.

I'm not making him out to be all emo and "nobody understands me", but filled with utter contempt at a world to stupid to realise it's lying to itself.

I don't think I would really have a favorite type...but I did like Saren in Mass Effect (especially in the book Revelation). While I would not agree with many things he does, Saren still has a cold confidence and intelligence about him. He does bad shit, but they way he does it, and his thought process leading to it, is still brilliant.

Personaly, I prefer a villian who's simply out to prove they can do it. Obiously I look to Moriarty as the prime example of it. He never did evil/planned teh crimes to make money or gain power, but simply to see if he could, then sold the plans off to other to do the dirty work.

The kind of man who could sit down and have tea with Holmes, admit to everything (in a purely hypothetical way of course) and then stand up and start the final fight with honour.

Also the kind that's just out there to have a good time. Not the kind that just want to watch the world burn however, the kind who is willing to lose just to try again and outsmart the "hero".

My favorite type of villain is the dark reflection type. What I mean is that the villain has certain personality traits that the hero does but turns them up to 10.

My favorite villains are either the subtle, deceitful, and yet tragic, sympathetic type of villains (Salieri from Amadeus, Mr. Freeze from Batman) or villains who are just evil for evil's sake and love it (Hades from Disney's Hercules is the prime example, and the only good thing about that movie. Seriously, movie should've been about him).

Robert Neville is my favorite villain. Throughout the book he is the last remnant of humanity besiged by vampires and investigating the plague that infects the vampires. The monent at the end when he realises the vampires have created a new society and he is their monster, that is what makes a great villain.

The "Clandestine" types. Those who plot behind the scenes, control the actions of others, and can make things happen like chess pieces.

Walter O' Dim, Albert Wesker, Alec Trevelyan, Vormav Tingel...

The guys in the shadows doings in a very obscure way.

I like the classy villain. The one who's elegant and witty and often quite sociable, but their smile hides the fact that they've secretly already planned your death. If you stay on their good side, though, they're quite personable and charming. Commitment to evil dips no excuse for a lack of civility and manners, am I right?

this kind of villain. nothing like having tea with a genius supervillain, i always say.

i also like it when they can manipulate the hero into doing all sorts of stupid things.

The crazy powerful type that does horrifying things and has techniques that can intimidate even the hero, basically the worst case scenario. I like ém because when they finally get their cummuffins it is really satisfying.

When ever I talk to people about Star Wars they never believe me when I tell them that Grievous is awesome. As most of them have only seen the movies or the second animated clone wars show.

Same here unfortunately. In the movie he was weak as piss but in the book I read every Jedi feared him like he was the Jedi slayer.

I love ones like Hannibal Lector. Sophisticated in appearance yet will kill you if you are rude, or if you get in the way. Plus, incredibly intelligent and can get in peoples heads.

Second ones are usually like the joker and are psychotic and just a joy to listen to.

A villain who has conquered fear and death, who is devoted to a single drive, the kind of villain who could have just as easily been the perfect hero. Something like the Joker in The Dark Knight I guess would be my ideal villain, as he's purely dedicated to the proliferation of chaos.

Meh, mostly characters that fit in the same archetype as The Joker. Someone who's not evil just insane and scattered. Everyone loves em because they represent true freedom, truly being divorced from society and rules and having fun with it.

I feel like a malignant tumor of a nerd for saying this, what with my avatar and all (and the fact that I've brought this up before in previous posts), but a villain like Aizen. I love the seemingly omnipotent, omniscient presence he has about him. Every time one of the "good" characters delivers some type of crippling blow against him, he just maintains that devious grin. Like he expected that all along and has everyone right in the palm of his hand.

And he seems to be evil just because it's fun. Which is quite refreshing after listening to everyone else bang on about friendship and defeating evil. It's sad to know that he will lose since no protagonist is allowed to die in that story by law or something.

NOTE: I'm only watching the anime, not reading the manga. So he might have disappointed me by now but I don't want to know yet

EDIT: After watching the last couple episodes, I may have to take back my opinion. I used to like him, but he's just getting silly now.

I quite favour the villian who tries to play the protagonist along. The ones who stay 'good' long enough for you to connect with, ever so slightly and then BAM! You've been crossed.

Kinda like GlaDOS.
Although I think Fontaine is the best example
