I've only heard lately about the commercialism of the video game industry and how shows like X-Play and websites like IGN and Gamespot are bought off by the industry. I am a pretty serious gamer, but not much of a media buff. So I need you to post your favorite (in your opinion, the most honest and entertaining) game critic. Also, we all love yahtzee. He is the reason a lot of us found the escapist, myself included. But I am looking for a more professional game critic. Zero Punctuation doesn't have a clear rating system.

In my mind, that automatically elevates it above most other critique systems. Numbers may make critique streamlined, but at the expense of clarity.

Admittedly, Yahtzee tends to focus on the negative for the humor value, and we have occasionally very different tastes, so I don't think I'd call him my favorite game critic, except for entertainment. Not sure I have a favorite, actually. Lee or Sage from That Guy With the Glasses probably come closest.

Yes but theres also the fact that Yahtzee reviews one game a week. And its often an obscure or old game. Again, don't get me wrong, I love Zero Punctuation. Thanks for the suggestions so far though, i'll check em out.

...almost all of his reviews are new releases. The only "old or obscure" games I can think of that he reviewed are Painkiller, Psychonauts, Silent Hill 2, Spider Man: Web of Shadows, Shadow of the Colossus, and Thief 2. Possibly a couple others I've forgotten. That's about 10 out of 150 game reviews (not counting special episodes) so far.

Yahtzee Croshaw of Zero Punctuation gets my vote he tells it like it is in his own way and that's a game critic you can trust in my opinion any other game critic that sugar coats a crap game should be shot for being an idiot..too harsh.. no I don't think so.

I'll assume you mean new games and say Angry Joe. I don't always agree with him but I can at least see where he's coming from.

When I was younger (and stupid) I went to IGN for reviews before I bought a game. That didn't turn out too welll.

Errrmmm I guess Jeff Gerstmann and Brad Shoemaker

I would say Yahtzee buuuut I come to him more for the humour than critical insight.
Mind you I don't totally disregard every point he makes either.
