I really like Predator 2, and consider it superior to the first one, and recognise what it did for Predator lore. The Predator got a greatly expanded arsenal, with the speargun, netgun, smart disc and multiple vision modes all first appearing here.

The actual movie is just good fun, with a pretty good cast. Gary Busey, Bill Paxron and Danny Glover.
Second this one. I don't think it's as good as the first one was, but it did so much to expand on the Predator universe and their lore that you have to give it credit where it is due. If it hadn't been for it, we wouldn't have seen so much expansion of Predator character(s) into comic books, video games, additional movies, etc

Snowpiercer probably, dumbest movie pretending to be smart I've ever seen but I just seem to enjoy it a lot for some reason...

...maybe because of scenes like this.

I thought Snowpiercer was received well? I certainly enjoyed it.

Ohohoh Chappie was another recent one which I liked but for some reason sits around the 30s on RT. I do not think I will ever understand that. I mean, the last Hobbit movie got more than that, there is no way anyone could think it that bad surely?!

Also surprised no one has mentioned Alien: Resurrection. Or did the small spark of good will I once detected on these forums dwindle to nothing in the absense of Jim? Well I liked the film...

I like Man of Steel, mostly because I see potential to be like Batman Begins. BB had some noticeable issues, but was still fun, and the sequel, The Dark Knight was amazing. I'm mostly on board because I think there is a ton of room to at least make a fun sequel. I also like Superman having more of a character arc and not being some boring, "American Icon" that is perfect in every way and doesn't make mistakes. I don't have a problem with all the destruction, Kal-El had barely gotten into his boy-blues before stronger and vastly more experienced soldiers came and wrecked everything.
And I absolutely love Uwe Boll's Postal movie, if only because it was so weird and scattershot, yet still seems to have understood the source material (maybe). The political commentary and 9/11 stuff is so bad that it's just charming, couldn't bat an eye even if I was American. And also there's the scene where the creator of the game Postal steps in and starts a fight with the real Uwe Boll, unleashes a huge gunfight, and then the Taliban steps in and everything becomes a massacre. That part where the kids get shot is one of the funniest scenes I have ever watched in a movie, I laugh every time because of how out of place and terribly shot it is.

3. It has aliens. This one I really don't understand: when I ask people about why Crystal Skull is bad, an extremely common response is just to say "it has aliens in it," and it just baffles me that this is such a huge sticking point. Yes, it is different from the originals, when Indy was hunting for religious relics, but it is also a movie meant to emulate the pulp fiction of the eras they are set in. The originals were set in the pre-WWII time of treasure hunting, tombs in the ancient parts of the world, and stories like The Maltese Falcon or King Solomon's Mines. The 1950's were the time of science fiction, UFOs, distant aliens and Cold War paranoia: the difference in time period made the inclusion of sci-fi entirely appropriate. Just because it is different doesn't mean it is bad.
I didn't like it. But I agree it's not because of Aliens. Nazis hunt religious icons. Communists hunt Aliens in the 50's that all made sense to me.
I didn't have an issue with the Crystal Skull aspect of it, I had issues with everything else about it. The part that made me cringe in the theater and almost walk out were the Greaser Monkies, and how suddenly Indy Jr is swinging through the trees like Tarzan, with his instantly adopted tribe of monkey minions. The "I'm a bad guy, no I'm a good guy! No I'm a bad guy!" flip flopping of Indy's friend who was the betrayer got annoying. And basically everything else.

As far as pop culturally recognizable objects for someone to hunt for, the Crystal Skull is a good one. If you asked a random poll of people before the movie came out to name various mystical/supernatural objects from history that they know of, I'd bet a good number of them would list the crystal skull. So picking that made as much since as looking for the ark of the covenant and the holy grail, equally fictional objects. So yeah, no issue there for me.

Off the top of my head?

Cannonball run.

Yeah, I know it's a very dumb old movie, and that the ENTIRE ending makes no sense (It's a rally, not an actual race, so what the hell is up with the mad rush to the finish line at the end?!). But I still think it's kinda hilarious.

Seriously, the kooky doctor the main characters bring along is a blast most of the time!

I had a blast with Sucker Punch. Sure, it's messy as Hell and the train section is just... no. However, I found most of the film quite compelling and the action to be both a visceral and visual delight, and the music is just lovely. I also really love the ending even though I can't really stick to a perception on what happened and what it means mostly because of the aforementioned messy nature of the film.

I liked Alien: Resurrection. It's very weird, but quotable and good fun. I think AlienCubed is the Alien film people would jump to defend. Including myself, I think all four Alien films are good, and I even liked the first AvP (haven't seen the second).

I'm not sure what a "vilified movie" is specifically, but only one movie i've seen springs to mind.
The Ultimate Ninja, it's a boring awful terrible film which is abusive to its viewers, if you think you have the patience i guess i recommend it.

Trailer here

(those scenes are literally the best few minutes of the movie).

The Last Dragon, though this might be a cult classic. I honestly have no idea, because I've never heard anyone else even mention having seen it, much less like it.

Super cheesy blacksploitation martial arts film from the 80s. It's gloriously 80's and dumb, and I love every celluloid frame of it.

SHO NUFF!!

Kung Pow: Enter the Fist

I used to think it was a popular or liked movie, until I saw 11% on rotten tomatoes (0% among top critics). Regardless, I really enjoyed it.

Snowpiercer is one of those oddballs among movies. Critics seemed to love the movie but the reaction from the public in general seems to range from "Meh" to "It sucks" to "What the hell was this about anyways?"

Just check the IMBD page, even though there is general praise from critics the scores by users level it out to a 7/10.
I found the movie pretty good, but it's...not your typical movie, as far as concept and pacing goes. It felt a lot like Blade Runner, in that it took a long time to get where it was going, and where it was going was dark and disturbing. I dunno, I didn't really blink at the concept of the movie, as I've read enough scifi novels about generational ships and evolved cultures to find it a pretty standard story idea. It was just stuck on a train instead of in space. My only gripe with the story was
The kid that was taken near the beginning to be part of the gears. He was only with the badguys for what, 1-2 days? And somehow he had been so clearly broken in that time that he just went right back into the machine to turn the lever over and over? He sees his father and doesn't even react? Sorry, not buying it. Not after such a short period of time.

I remember when that movie came out, a friend of mine at the time was a HUGE fan of terrible movies, and even he was like "Yeah no, this thing sucked ass, don't go see it." I wasn't planning to anyway, but hearing HIM of all people give it a thumbs down was pretty telling. xD

Predator 2, its a really fun movie that is a great sequel to the original, but it gets a lot of hate and still has a really low score on rotten tomatoes.

Really? Didn't know that. I enjoyed the hell out of that film.

I know right, I don't get it either. I think its one of the better sequels around since its just fun. They don't even shoehorn in characters from the original, even the predator is a different predator.

Can't say much against a movie where Burt Reynolds gets to do the full Burt Reynolds thing without inhibitions. Also, Dom DeLuise and his Captain Chaos persona was nothing short of genius!

Have you seen the sequel? Kind of long, and feels more like over-the-top fan fiction than an actual continuation, but it's great fun and has most of the (incredibly awesome) cast from the original, reprising their roles! (Yup - including the doctor! Also, Captain Chaos is back.)

You are mistaken, there is no sequel.

IS SAID THERE IS NO SEQUEEEEEL!

*cough* Sorry. I just really really hated it. There were a few good bits to it, but most of it was beyond cringeworthy. It just couldn't recapture what made the original great, IMO. :(

Yeah, most of the fun just comes from seeing the old gang again. Plus Richard Kiel - and an orangutan. Just thought I'd mention it, is all.

Gotta admit, though, that's a helluva cast!

One of my favorite movies of all time is 'Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within'. I have only ever met one other person in real life who says they liked it, and I sell dvds so it comes up a lot. I've had people tell me they can no longer be my friend (jokingly) after finding out.

And I've never understood why it is so hated my so many, to me it was a really good movie.
What? I love that film, so beautiful and scary, at least by tween standards

I like the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen as well, very memorable and not as stupid as it seems, Van Helsing is in the same boat

However upon rewatching it i realize why people say The Lost World is a bad film.... kinda wish i would have waited until i lost my memory before doing that

...It also features two scenes of someone running forward yelling "Noooooooo....!" while firing their gun wildly. In close succession. It felt like... Well, what it probably was, honestly: the attempt of someone from outside of the cultural milieu that is responsible for western-style action-scifi blockbusters to create a western-style action-scifi blockbuster, someone who had all the pieces but didn't really understand the tropes and cliches quite well enough to get why they shouldn't be put together in particular ways..
I think this was intentional because it was during a sequence in which half the characters were killed off, so the movie was flowing from one tragedy to the next. It was showing how the characters were not so dissimilar and that they would all die the same way if given the choice, except the last one was scooped up and carried away at the last second.

My choice for "vilified movie that I liked" would have to go to Mangaception, AKA Sucker Punch. It mixes up crazy action sequences formerly restricted to videogames or comic books, complete with nonfunctional wardrobe, with an "Inception" dream-within-a-dream plotline about the characters trying to escape the reality they're faced with, both literally and figuratively. It's a movie with layers, which many aren't able to see past the fluff to realize.
