The Thin Red Line is probably my favourite war film. To me, it's a lot more than just a war flick, and IMO got robbed of the attention it deserves due to Saving Private Ryan. Just personally, i think all SPR has is one or two impressive battles, and that's about it. The characters are so one-note and uninteresting, and the film has it's usual moments of Spielberg sentimentality in it. It's certainly not a bad film, it's just not that good. [sarcasm]Who thought that a blindly patriotic film about the American's trumping the German's with a big name director to back it up would win awards?[/sarcasm]. Anyways, i'm not trying to offend any fans of the film.

Some other good ones are; Cross of Iron, Idi I Smotri (Come and See), Patton, Letters from Iwo Jima, Stalingrad and The Dirty Dozen

Generation Kill is also a really good tv series.

Ok, I know it never happened but The Speed of Darkness was freakin AMAZING. That book had POWER. So what if it was Starcraft, the raw emotions and an epic ending all contributed to a great read. If were talkin real wars, I say Red Badge of Courage.

Slaughter House-Five is proving to be an enjoyable read. Though it may not focuse entirly on the war its still a war book (actually its an anti-war book).

I don't have a movie, but Catch-22 is the only book I've read that simultaneously showed the horrors of war while still being hilarious.

Patton, Saving Private Ryan, and Flags of Our Fathers were all excellent, as for war-related songs I'd say "Paschendale" by Iron Maiden.

That was an awesome movie.

Book: All Quiet on the Western Front.
Oh awesome, you caught it? I freaking loved it, best movie of the year by far.
I do especially love the scene where the man takes off his suit and says "If I'm gonna die, I'm dying comfortably".

Or at least I think that was what he said. The exact words and character left my mind when I took that skateboard to the head.

I don't watch movies much, but books might be a toss up between Dean Koontz's Frankenstein series and Harry Potter.
