Elder Scroll's IV, Oblivion: Create a spell that does a small amount of damage over a long period of time. Find a high ledge to sit on, one that NPCs can't easily scale. Shoot said guard or bandit or animal or Daedra lord with said spell. Sit back and watch as they slowly perish.

I prefer not fighting or killing them at all. Which is why I loved it when I got Alpha Protocol recently. Got through enarly the entire game without having to fire shots at guards.

But if I have to kill I prefer to do it quietly, by whichever method means quietly in the game. So for Halo I like melee attacks from behind or sniper shots when they're too far out to immediately spot and kill me. For Alpha protocl dart gun or silent takedown.

You can guess how much I love Arkham Asylum, especially the Silent Knight challenge mode. Oh so many ways to bring them down...

Variety is the spice of life... =P

I don't actually have a favourite method, it kind of depends on what I think the character would to.

Ezio: The ol' double wristblades to the neck after dropping down behind them from the roof. In darkness. Or maybe the classic hanging-from-a-ledge-then-wristblades-to-the-kidneys-of-the-guard-above-you.

Rico Rodriguez: Chuck a piece of C4 onto them and BOOM!

Others: Try to walk past without getting noticed, actually. It's just their job, after all.

throwing a two handed sword at the guards in Assassins Creed Brotherhood it gets them mostly in the head =D.

Edit: i remember playing metal gear solid 4 it was on a lvl cant remember which one i was using a sniper rifle my bro told me it only tranquilized them so i pulled out the RPG and killed a few people and the other guy was standing there didn't attack me prob was deaf if u ask me 3 guys killed with the RPG and he didnt notice his friends were gone

In this one Splinter Cell game my sister and I used to play (Chaos Theory, I think, but I'm not totally sure), I liked to take out guards by opening doors. I'd just hide next to a door and wait for a guard to walk past, then kick the door open right in the guard's face. Not really the most efficient or particularly stealthy way to handle things, in retrospect, but it sure was fun.

My favorite way is what I do in Crysis; steal a jeep, drive it towards an enemy, jump out at the last second, and then blow them up by shooting the jeep in the gas tank.

Edit: Oh, and bonus points if I steal the jeep with some idiot still in the gunner seat.

somthing that make a big BOOM! like a .50 cal with a thermal scope that has x40 zoom so i can pick them off at ranges so crazy that all they hear is "bang" but only after the guy next to them gets ripped in half spraying them with blood.

...or i just do the very American thing and just air strike em

I've always been quite partial to close kills, and my preferred method for that is without a doubt a broken neck. Probably comes from all the Metal Gear Solid I've played...

I guess it depends on the game. I usually favor close quarters, over-the-top kills, like an explosive charge planted along a guard's patrol route, silenced pistols from behind, or a good ol' fashioned stab/neckbreak from behind. Of course a well placed grenade is always fun too :)

Actions Games: (eg, Arkham Asylum): Sneak attacks, usually by hanging them upside down. I really hated it when they started putting bombs on the gargoyles and introduced snipers. I know difficulty curve is important, but you took away a lot of my stalking spots.
([Prototype]): Imitating a guard and then stealthily eating every guard one at a time until only I remained. Again, difficulty curve eventually fucked up stealth portions in this game which pissed me off because I preferred stealthing it up over going in and wrecking shit up.

RPGS: (Pokemon): I guess I'll just say I like hitting Rockets with the BIGGEST attack I have in my arsenal. Whatever I have. Infernape's Close Combat. Heracross' Megahorn. Whatever. But I think I just love kicking ass with a Gyarados/Electivire combo. Wins almost every time.

(Neverwinter 2): Um... didn't get far in this, tbh. But I always liked talking out of situations if I could. Not because I didn't like combat. But to conserve health for the bigger battles I know I'd need. Just a preference.

FPS: (L4D): Sniping, Magnum, Katana, or Guitar. All of these are amazingly awesome tools for surviving the hordes. I like molotov's too... but, honestly, nothing is better than listening to the tune you play while beating a Tank to death with a guitar (note, there isn't really a tune unless you are as crazy as I am).

Depends on the game. In Assassin's Creed (all of them), hidden blade to the throat or send them flying off a roof. In Fallout 3 and New Vegas, frag grenade in the pocket. In Mass Effect 1 and 2, machine gun fire to the face.

Jedi Outcast was the best for this. Force choke stormtrooper. Hold stormtrooper over bottomless pit. Throw lightsaber to cut stormtrooper in half. But hey, I'm the *good* guy!
