I really liked how Steins;Gate ended, even if it was a little too optimistic.

Also, the conclusion of Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni has left me satisfied for quite some time.

Puella Magi Modoka Magica... Because Puella Magi Modoka Magica.

I'll edit when I remember more of 'em.
Steins;Gate ending was awesome, and it's optimism was fine in my opinion because of how despairing the episodes leading up to it were, had its cake and ate it too. Besides, if you want a less optimistic ending, 22 is a completely valid ending by itself.

So yeah, Steins;Gate - the ending is the only time I have ever wept in happiness.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica/Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica also was great. Yuki Kajiura's music playing in the scene with Madoka and Homura was amazing.

C The Money of Soul and Possibility Control - Not necessarily the ending, but the entire last episode was astoundingly good. I have never been so enthralled by economics before.

I refuse to accept that it took 17 posts to get the right answer. :(

Though I don't really watch many animes.

I loved how Death Note ended just because the look of disappointment on my brother's face when it happened was priceless.

Gurren Lagann was the only ending that left my heart pounding.

Welcome to the NHK had a really good one too. A rather novel reveal of what the NHK actually is.

Last one (I promise); Samurai 7.
Four of the titular samurai don't make it out alive. I won't say who.

EDIT: Ah fuck it, I'll put Azumanga Daioh here too. Especially that little bit where chibis of the main cast bow while "Thanks for your support" appears at the top of the screen. I actually bowed back!

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, happy ending, and Ed's final speech is just amazing.

Nothing really springs to mind of something I've seen which had a completely awesome ending, but I recently finished re-watching an anime which I think ends quite well.

Oban Star Racers. For most of the series the plot isn't particularly mind blowing. It's entertaining but it doesn't really do anything amazing, but it has some really good character development. It gives a few mysterious hints that something deeper is going on but it doesn't really get any attention until the later parts of the series. Then shit gets crazy. All the character development builds up to some pretty heavy stuff in the relationships between characters, while at the same time all the mysterious stuff gets explained and the stakes rise very high pretty rapidly. The climax ends in an unexpected way too, with an ending which isn't all sunshine and happiness for everyone, but wraps things up really well.

Although I didn't want to give any spoilers I'm guessing that no-one on this site really knows or cares what the show is, so that's why I didn't bother to explain everything in detail. But I'll explain more if anyone is interested. I recommend watching the show too, it's one of my favourites.

Gurren Lagann- Just for that last fight.
Obligatory question: We talking about the series or Lagann-Hen's final fight?

Death Note of course

It ended how ryuk said it would go down.
Light you lost face it, its not going to be fun anymore....you die now.

(sorta like some other anime protagonists should)

That ending is too happy, in fact it borderlines on bullshit. All he had to do to get alphonse back was give up alchemy? the fuck.
Just another reason of the many I prefer the first anime.

There shouldn't be any more confusion about what this topic is about from here on, i fixed the Title and the opening post.
*meh* I sometimes post my thought process along with an actual reply. Noticed the thread topic and tried thinking up titles for each possible answer. No confusion... you just limited the scope of my answer is all! :)

Thought of another one... I quite liked Durarara!!'s ending, everything got resolved quite neatly and it wasn't particularly forced.
sadly the last episode of durarara was the only one I liked because it relied mostly on the running joke of shizuo hating izaya and they finally had it all out.
That series.....I dont know...too all over the place and no sense of climax or urgency.
Baccano (made by the same guy)was just better.

The only anime I've ever watched all the way through is the entire Dragon Ball series (and Z,GT) and that didn't really have the greatest ending..

As much as I love the ending to Wolf's Rain, I have to go with Cowboy Bebop on this one. Anyone who's seen the show knows exactly what I'm talking about.

.........
In the first Anime, to get Al's body back he had to trap himself in the Parallel Universe that wasn't so much as foreshadowed until they introduced in like the last episode, they make about as much sense as one another. :p

And I wouldn't say there was anything wrong with having a happy ending, the very point behind the ending was that they'd all earned their happy ending after The Truth punished them so many times to the point of despair throughout the series.

I'll admit that I haven't watched many anime series all the way to the end. That being said, I'll go with Yu Yu Hakusho. Sure, it wasn't very climactic, but it made me legitimately sad that I would be seeing the characters go, and it left me satisfied with how their lives turn out.

I think I should put spoiler tags because I hate eluding to endings

Death Note - Light is awesome but he kind of had to die at the end.
Fruits Basket - The fact that Tohru can go find Kyo and accept the evil side of him and break the curse is so nice

I'm going to put manga as well because I've read more manga recently

Kare No Love - Kiriya finally gets his dad to understand he should be a photographer, plus the final image of them getting married is beautiful
Ouran High School Host Club - Haruhi and Tamaki are in boston together but she still keeps him on a leash about the lovey-dovey stuff. Really funny!
High School Debut - Haruna convinces Yoh to go to university in Tokyo even though she wont get to see him for a year, and when they finally see each other again she still fucks up on how shes dress.

I can always think of more manga than anime, weird.

The Topic is simple, What series end of an anime is your favourite, the one that you will remember most, for me the answer is simple.

Code Geass
an amazing Ending,
Really Spoilery from here on.

Lelouch selflessly giving his life to bring Peace to the world, he became the thing that the entire world hated so that when he was killed the world could have peace.

booyaa, first topic i've made and I figured out the spoiler tag.
also, I would add a poll, but Im not entirely sure what the majority of Escapists would go for.

EDIT: For Clarity, Im talking about the last episodes of anime, the end of the story, the Finale.
well, i was going to say code geass, but you kinda fucked that up

Cowboy Bebop. Manly tears were shed because of the last episode of that series.
Yup. These, to the nth degree.
Aside from Fullmetal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop is the only anime to make me genuinely care for the characters, and that's why the ending is so satisfying.

Hurpdurp. How could I forget that ending? We were told from the very start that's how it was going to go down but it was still so powerful.

Death Note.

It did only have one season, right?

Edit: For real, though, Trigun. Yes, it was a short series. But that ending was just so freaking heartwarming. Really restores your faith in idealism.

Wolf's Rain for me.

The culmination of story, visuals and audio was just overwhelmingly beautiful. It was both a joyful and a tragic ending, and in some respect not only an ending but a new beginning. I thought it was really well done.
