Whenever someone brings up the term "African American" and how stupid it is, people call me and others that defend that statement racist, even though the statement is perfectly logical and true.

"African Americans" never came from Africa, period. Yes, nearly every person that claims to be one has an ancestors from Africa, but so what? Most "African Americans" are black people born in America, and therefore AMERICAN, nothing else. White people in America have ancestors that came from Germany, Poland, Ireland, and lots of other European countries, but do we go around saying "I'm French-American"? No, because it's stupid and untrue.

The only time you can add a hyphen in your nationality is went you move from one country to another.

And when people continue to argue, saying that all black people can use that term if they want, I do this.

1) A black person is born in England, who's parents were also born in England. He grows up and moves to America. Is he Afican-American?
2) A white person is born in Africa, he grows up and moves to America. He says he's African-American. Is he wrong?

The answer to both is "Hell no", but I've yet to see a person even attempt to answer the questions. One person even said they had "nothing to do with the subject"...right.
Wait what? I know plenty of Americans who were born here and proudly self identify as Irish-American or Italian-American or *gasp* French-American.

1) He's Black British: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_British
2) No, he's African. Anyone, regardless of race, who culturally identifies as being from a country in Africa is African, even if they are living in America.

Are you completely witless?
Then why are british and germanic people different?

1) You said Black, you must be racist since the politically correct term would be African American British. And since on this forum we've already figured out that you cannot trust the internet, your "look it up on wikipedia" argument has just been nullified
2) Why couldn't he call himself African American? You're being insensitive by saying that he cannot identify himself as American.

Oh and just so you know, people can identify themselves as Italian-American or Irish-american or *gasp* French-American but if you call them something different without recognizing their ancestor's ethnicity they don't call you racist and report you to government officials.

Are you completely witless?

sorry but I'm in the sarcastic mood

Well, I got a story.
Okay, one day an old man took a plane to France. At customs, he was having trouble finding his passport. After he found it, the rude Frenchman asked him if he'd ever been to France before. The man said yes. The Customs Officer asked him why there wasn't any documentation on his passport.
The man said, "The last time I was in France, I came to liberate this country and there wasn't a Frenchman around."

Shut him the hell up.

I'm not sure if I deserve the "argument" in Random Argument Man anymore. I can't come up with something. I wonder if it's argument block.

However I do have a magic saying. It will shut someone up. Altought, you will look like an idiot.
It's a quote from the late George Carlin....BLOW IT UP YOUR ASS, BLOW IT UP YOUR ASS.... repeated loudly till the person cower in fear from you.

WARNING: Side effect includes arrest from local police, mental institutions, divorce, verbal harrassement charges and rectal problems.

My favourite arguments are the ones that don't make any logical sense, because it's the only time I can actually counter them, for example:

A: I think we should abolish the death penalty
B: You're only saying that because you're a filthy liberal who'd let rapists live in women's changing rooms!
A: How about you attack the argument rather than just attacking me?

Ad hominem at it's finest.

I have a better counter. "So...You think all black people come from Africa and I'm the racist?"

Mine, for example, is:

Person who's family emigrated "i am British, i was born in Britain"
My father "oh yeah, if a dog's born in a barn does it make it a horse?"

Not heard a decent come-back to that yet

But is the dog British?

I find this version to be more accurate:

"Obama is a Socialist!"
"Here, take a look at these textbooks on political ideologies. Now stop talking out of your arse." Laugh and walk away.

Anouther argument & counter I commonly see is:

"Atheism takes faith! It's a religion!"
"Atheism is a religion like bald is a hair colour."

I must admit that was quite weak of me, but I found it difficult to let the last one be a pro-obama one. At least people actually use the argument I (poorly) responded to.

For the record, I didn't mean to imply that I would personally consider Obama a socialist per se (though I certainly don't agree with him). I just found the incident I described laughable.

On-topic...I can't wait for the next person (who I either know really well, or don't like at all) to disagree with what I like so that I can have this exchange:

Him/Her: What are you, gay?

Me: Bi, actually.
Tried it. Works beautifully. Every time.
