You know what? MW2.

I think that while MW2 is terribly balanced, it is still a really fun game to play with friends. I have heaps of fun playing Search and Destroy with a whole bunch of friends.

Also, the environments are interesting and somewhat colourful (i.e Favela). As opposed to Black Ops which is incredibly ugly slushy snow environments, or depressing brown/grey buildings.

Plus, I thought that while the MW2 Campaign made little sense, a lot of the levels were incredibly fun. Especially the ones in which you're defending America on home soil, and walking through the suburbs.

My Favorite would have to be Big Red One (cod 2.5(it came between 2&3)) mainly because its the only one I've played with a good single player (but its also the only one I've played other then MW2(witch i thought was crap but my friends couldn't get enough of))

Call of Duty The Big Red One: This was my first CoD game, and I loved it to bits and used to always play it. It got me interested in the series. The single player was amazing.

Call of Duty 3: I don't remember much at all about this, I did have it and used to play it, but for some reason just can't remember much about it.

Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare: I could play the single player over and over again, had loads of fun with friends on my first multiplayer CoD game, such good fun to play and the most memorable CoD I have had.

Call of Duty World at War: I liked the single player challenge a lot, and was super pleased with myself when I finally completed it. Didn't like the multiplayer too much so mostly went back to CoD4. But the zombies was so much fun and I loved it, and played it all the time.

Modern Warfare 2: Both the single player and the multiplayer were great to play and lots of fun to mess around in. Played it loads and loved the campaign as well as the multiplayer. Spec Ops was also quite good for a challenge.

Call of Duty Black Ops: The single player was the most interesting in the whole series, by far, and the multiplayer to match. I do so much better on Black Ops than any other CoD game so far. And all the new features are brilliant. Also the return of zombies is excellent, and I play it more than I did on World at War. I play it all the time.

In conclusion I just can't really decide between a few of them, but at a push I would have to say Black Ops. It has only been out for a few weeks but first impressions are everything, and I love it!

Probably a tie between 2 and 4.

CoD 2 introduced interesting, immersive, and original gameplay mechanics that would soon be ripped off by many ensuing games, including CoD 3.

CoD 4 introduced interesting, immersive, and original gameplay mechanics that would soon be ripped off by many ensuing games, including CoD 5, 6, and 7.

So I guess I like CoD 2 better, because it was ripped off by less games in the same franchise.

I'd go with CoD4, becuase it was something totally new for the franchise. The story was plausible (mostly, and more so than later games), and tried a few differant things. The gameplay also handled incredibly well.

The runner up being Cod2: Big Red One

Easily call of duty 2. The original was a lot of fun, the expansion added to it but 2 just felt more right[footnote]the feel of the guns and such.[/footnote] (even with it's silly health system). No silly multiplayer perks or killstreaks to ruin the game, team locked guns, oftentimes there were limits on scopes, fairly easy access to modified games and custom maps etc. It was all around a fantastic game, and the series has gone seriously downhill since then.

CoD4: It's an excellent modern war game, the story's good, and it is not pretentious.

CoD2 was excellent too, but everyone was doing WWII games back then; CoD4 started the modern war game boom.

Definitly Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare. Great story that didn't feel too over the top (like MW2 and Black Ops) and it had a greatly balanced multiplayer mode. Plus the sniper assassination and the final level were simply amazing.

Call of Duty 4 was the best. Hardcore S&D in multiplayer was awesome and the Campaign actually made sense while being epic. Also, OLD SCHOOL! Honestly I loved getting out of the multiplayer maps and it didn't affect the online so there was no sense it taking it out.

Either the first or fourth COD. Both had brilliant campaigns, and the latter stole away hundreds of hours of my life online.

I like MW2 the most, actually.
Single player was great, spec ops was a challenge but very satisfying, and despite all the problems with the multiplayer, I still got massively addicted. I racked up five and a half days of it online, which is the most time I've spent on an online FPS game. It was addicting. It had problems, but then again, so do all great drugs.

well, call of duty 2 was an excellent game and one fuck of an experience that I can't even describe

but the first one is the one where all my love goes into

I mean, on it's own, it's a really, really fine game, but it also had nice twists that just got you deeper in the game

like the infiltration mission in the german ship, or the russian part where the only thing you're given is just a bunch of ammo and then you gotta get a weapon by yourself

but, call of duty 2 was, indeed, full of epic moments

like the russian last stand in the red square I think it was

and, again with the russians, the sniper duel

it just was a lot better than the one in WaW

MW2, the maps are really fun and interesting.
There is actually a variety of guns and each one handles differently. A variety of primary and secondary weapons and equipment. Seriously 3arch how did you fuck this up with Black Ops? How do you give less weapons and gear and make them all so obscenely similar to boot?

Cod4, you know, the time before it was just the same game over and over again.

CoD and its United Offensive expansion. The campaigns were great, and the multiplayer was even better. Lean buttons, switchable fire modes, bash(not this slide 20 feet to stab shit) and freaking base assault? Hell yes.

Call Of Duty 4 is a modern reskin of CoD 2 with updated multiplayer. Gameplay-wise, it's the same game.

OT: Any of them. Really, my favorite series, but it certainly hasn't been particularly innovative.

Let's put it that way: Campaign-wise - MW2
Coop-wise - MW2
Multiplayer-wise - Black Ops.
