You know what? MW2.

I think that while MW2 is terribly balanced, it is still a really fun game to play with friends. I have heaps of fun playing Search and Destroy with a whole bunch of friends.

Also, the environments are interesting and somewhat colourful (i.e Favela). As opposed to Black Ops which is incredibly ugly slushy snow environments, or depressing brown/grey buildings.

Plus, I thought that while the MW2 Campaign made little sense, a lot of the levels were incredibly fun. Especially the ones in which you're defending America on home soil, and walking through the suburbs.
I pretty much agree with all of that.

When in private lobbies with 6 or 7 buddies, MW2 is the best shooter I've ever played.... just so much fun.

I too am starting to get tired of Black Ops's grotty maps, amongst other things.

And the MW2 campaign was one of my favorite 7 hours ever spent gaming.

Well, that's what you get when the writers go insane, pump the game full of CoD set-piece goodness and then hire Hans Zimmer to make the music.

Seriously though. Hans Zimmer and Call Of Duty. For me, that was, undoubtedly, the best piece of gaming news that year.

That is too true, i think the writers went extremly lazy in Black Ops though. I played one mission where you break free from prison, how much did that look like terminator 2? They copied and recyled far too much whereas mw2 was all original and had the best music

Single Player: CoD4 with Black Ops close behind. CoD 4's writing was better, but Black Ops had more exciting scenarios and characters (Woods and Gaz are tied for my favorite character in an FPS)
Multiplayer: Black Ops with CoD4 close behind
Sound: Modern Warfare 2 (still my #1 for sound, I hate the game otherwise)

What the fuck? They're escaping from a prison camp. In Terminator 2 they are escaping from a mental hospital. I T2 (in the prison break) no helicopters are speared, no miniguns are wielded, and no trains are jumped to. The closest thing would be "The Great Escape" and even that would be a huge stretch.

I've only played CoD4, Black Ops, and CoD3. So for single player, I would say CoD4 because it was actually good, but for multiplayer Black Ops because it's just like CoD4 except improved in every way.

MW2.....now don't torture me and force me to crush my own skull with a golden wrench!
let me explain:
This was the game I've played for 200 hours and liked it! only after those 200 long hours I opend my eyes and saw that the game was pretty much shit placed on an overrated stick.

But I did liked it.

I like them all. Modern Warfare 2 has the awesome Spec Ops, World at War had Zombies and Co-op, Modern Warfare had a fun story and set in present, and Call of Duty 2 had some truly fun missions. Defending that hill for five minutes is one of my favorites. The only one I didn't care for was Finest Hour.

The first Call of Duty in this franchise. Mainly because it was fun, interesting and to me, very original compared to other WW2 era games like Medal of Honor. The gameplay was good, battles felt intense and was just all round brilliant.

None of the later Call of Duty games has poked my interest as much as the first, BUT...I did enjoy Call of Duty: Modern Warfare simply because it took us to the modern age and did a backbreakinglyfabulous twist with the franchise. Still not my number one though.

One of the missions you use a minigun in a window and shoot up cars and you are on a chopper motorbike using a model 1887 shotun in one hand just like terminator 2

World at War by a mile.

It seemed to suit my play style immensely, and my clan were a beautifully efficient unit on that game. Yet to rematch our success or skill with any other CoD. I could use the most retarded setups and still pull of some cheeky scores. Getting a perfect with no deaths on the largest map, shotgun only? Done, going 40-7 with just a pistol, done. Doing roughly the same flamethrower only, making my friend ragequit :'3, also done. And many other beautiful matches were played. Whereas give me MW2 and it just goes horribly wrong for the majority.

I just loved the maps, the guns, the way everything worked and the way everything went together just suited me and my friends, just made sense more than any other CoD.

Modern Warfare 2
genuinely
it was so well balanced
and yes while other games in the series did things better in some areas, MW2 did everything consistantly well, maybe nt amazingly, but it was consistant and i genuinely felt it delivered in both the Campaign and especially the challenging spec ops

P.S. this thread could have done with a poll

Call of Duty 2. It was just such a great improvement over the first which was pretty good as is and had great levels, weapons and multiplayer. United Offensive comes a close second, and 4 third.

Probably WaW. I liked the campaign a lot, and the online multiplayer is the best of the series. Besides, when a game is narrated by Jack Bauer, how can you complain.

I've actually prefered the more modern CoDs, they're a lot of fun, even for all their flaws.

CoD4. It's balanced, it has wonderful maps, and it keeps the formula simple. After WaW the entire series became too convoluted and over-complicated. Give me a gun, 3 perks, and let me go kill people. I don't need 12 weapon attachments, 18 different types of grenades, and choice of 25 different overpowered killstreaks.
