I don't know, this kind of covers a wide spectrum.

My favourite anime series is NGE, and two of my favourite animated movies are The Incredibles and My Neighbor Totoro.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic springs to mind off of the top of my head, but that's a rather obvious answer coming from me and is in no way my favorite.

That honor goes to Courage the Cowardly Dog, if I'm leaving anime out of the picture. Never before has a children's cartoon nearly made me shit my pants in fear, laugh, and give me feels all over the course of its 4 short seasons. Seriously, the episode "Remembrance of Courage Past," the second-to-last episode of the show, is so sad. Nearly every episode of the show is memorable in some way, a lot of the best being in season one (Freaky Fred, anyone?).

It will always be my favorite western-animated cartoon, bar none.

Favourite cartoon series: Danger Mouse. The humour swings between farce & outright slapstick to slightly subtler parody & satire.

Favourite cartoon films:

Renaissance.

Godkiller: Walk Among Us.

Immortal (Ad Vitum).

While all three share a dystopian element, visually these three have aesthetic styles very different from one another which, to my tastes, are very engaging. The same can be said for their narrative & casting differences - Daniel Craig as the gum-shoe in Renaissance, a stark hybrid of the classic Noire & sci-fi genres. Godkiller features actors such as Lance Henriksen & Lydia Lunch, & is more of a nihilistic acid trip extravaganza. Immortal also features a strong cast with the likes of Charlotte Rampling, arguably it has the weakest plot, though I'd say that's just because it's very ethereal & odd.

anime: try as I might I never grew out of Dragon Ball, (I mean the franchise as a whole which also means Z/GT and yes I am including GT, although to a lesser extent

non-ime: Drawn Together, I only saw this recently but it's freaking hilairious, I'd reccomend it to anyone.

Why of course, how could anyone forget dearest Fred! His relationship to Eustace and Muriel was at best shoddy, and his odd obsession with shaving was ever so...Naughty.

OT: At present I'd have to say it's a toss up between Regular Show and Adventure Time. I enjoy Regular Show because of it's unabashed devotion retro nostalgia, and because while it's supposed to be in the "real world" (as real as a show about a blue jay and racoon can get) there's always an underlying super natural element that rears its ugly head at the worst time.

Adventure Time is just pure fun, and that they like to tease older members of the audience with a darker plot under all the innocent whimsy is just the icing on the cake. Every now and again they'll focus on it with an episode that sucker punches you with emotion. Ultimately though I think the message is that the darker plot may have shaped Fin's world, but that it really doesn't matter all that much. Part 2 of this seasons' premiere episodes, "Jake the Dog", I think highlighted that pretty well in that it kept bouncing back to Jake chilling in a hot-tub with Prismo and The Cosmic Owl while the darker plot actually was running silently on the wall in the background.

I want to say the Looney Tunes (Classic), because all of the main cast was great and they were all genuinely funny. From Bugs, to Daffy, to Silvester, and to Wile E, they were just great and I'm glad to have been able to see them at the peak of their humor and popularity.

I have a few but i'll just focus on one.
War Planet shadow raiders, it is a Canadian CGI show about a number of war like planets who have unite to stop a large enemy. there are four planet: fire, ice, rock and bone who are at war, they take after there names so planet rock is full of people with rock skin and so one. this means they are both visual distinct and have enough culture differences that make each planet interesting. the characters are cool with different motive and such, and themes of war and exploration are covered really well in considering its a children show. some of the comic relife characters such as the beast planets (the main antagonist) leader type character can be really gratting and king Femer of the planet bone can be really lame, but they are not enough to make the show any less good.

and heres the intro which i post when i bring the show up, because it is awesome

Oh, probably Cowboy Bebop. Honorable mention for old Simpsons.

Are those really "cartoons", though? When I think "cartoons" I think more...Looney Tunes. If being animated means you're a "Cartoon", wouldn't Pixar or Studio Ghibli be cartoons? Because we're wandering into some tricksy territory if they are.
There seems to be a difference between cartoons and anime. Cartoons generally have a western connotation to them, or at least I've always thought that way, since Cowboy Bebop has always been referred to as anime.

Pixar is just... erm... animation? I guess? They aren't really cartoons in the Simpsons or Looney Toon sense. I just usually like to draw the line at either western animation or eastern animation.

OT: Honestly I'd say its a three way tie between My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Adventure Time, and a new one I just recently starting watching, Gravity Falls. Between those three, kids television is the best its been in years. The quality of animation is excellent, the story boarders and writers are hilarious, and there is humor there for kids and older watchers alike. Seriously, the 6 ponies in MLP aren't just cutesy poo caricatures for little girls. The Ice King in Adventure Time is both one of the worst evil wizards in all of cartoondom cuz he can't do anything right(which makes him hilarious) and also a tragic figure once you learn his back story. Plus he is voiced by the guy who does Spongebob. Finally Gravity Falls? Well, in this case showing would be better than telling.

Edit: Also the great and powerful Dexter's Lab!

That show had a cesspool of talent that worked on it. Recently, Lauren Faust the creator of Powerpuff Girls and MLP:FiM tweeted that the rumored lost episode from Dexter's Lab was real and linked it. Dexter's Lab with profanity... My fellow escapist's enjoy... :)

Hmmm...

Favorite American made cartoon: Sonic SatAM

I was definitely surprised when they took the elements of the Sonic games and converted them into this very serious fare. Especially when they intoduced a version of Robtnik that was definitely one of the better villains out there.

Favorite anime: Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex (Original AND 2nd Gig)

I was familiar with the anime movies for a while, but seeing the characters do what they do in serialized form was a delight. The Major herself was, in my opinion, one of the better developed characters.

OFF TOPIC: Hey...Escapist? Get rid of the ESO ads! I don't know what it is, but something in them is causing enough lag that it's causing some of my keystrokes to not register and cause me to have to go back and re-add them!

Oh, I can't even begin to pick a favorite. I'm 27 and I still only watch cartoons. The only two shows I watch with real actors are Leverage (which is no longer on) and Person of Interest (which, with the way the plot keeps going, I'm starting to wish I hadn't started to). Real life shows are too depressing or too mean. I'll just turn on the news if I want to hear about some psycho gunning down innocent people.

As for the cartoons, as I said, I can't even begin. How about I just list all the ones that I have collected?

Teen Titans, Avatar The Last Airbender, Justice League Unlimited, Young Justice, My Little Pong: Friendship is Magic, Shakugan no Shana, Sekirei Strike Witches, Futurama, X-Men, Wolverine and the X-Men (cancelled before its time, NOOOOO), Powerpuff Girls, Sailor Moon (yes, I do have all the seasons on DVD, sshh), Spice and Wolf, Crest and Banner of the Stars, and Outlaw Star.
And Naruto. I have every single box set of Naruto and Naruto Shippuden currently released...What?

Shows that I love just as much but don't own (mostly because they're not out yet): Legend of Korra, Rugrats, Doug, Kim Possible, Ed Edd n Eddy, and Hey Arnold. I love my cartoons.

Is the last season any good? I started watching but lost interest when noticed that the episodes were 20m long and had voices since what I liked most of the previous episodes was the fact that they were just bit sized stories that used their short duration and lack of context to show something fresh and new.
Those are the reasons I wasn't much of a fan of the Aeon Flux shorts... :/

She kept getting killed at the end of each episode... all the time, pretty much.

I much prefer the longer episodes as it loses none of its surreality even with plots. None of it is overarching, though, and it does pose some interesting questions... in really bizarre scenarios. A damned good series IMO, but I think it's one of those things that you either get it or you don't. Considering you watched the shorts, the 'long series' is worth a shot, it's only 13eps, even if you'll spend half the first watch through going 'WTF?!'

-_-

Damnit... knew I missed something. Awesome series and it really is difficult to pick between the manga and the anime for that series...

Adventure Time is definitely my all time favorite cartoon, as so much can be said about the show.
...and this comes from a person who watched stuff like Animaniacs, Batman: The Animated Series, Samurai Jack and Futurama on a daily basis. Those shows are awesome and on my top 20 or so lists of cartoons, but my love for AT is cemented.

As far as anime goes, contenders for favorites are; One Piece, Fooly Cooly, Big O, Trigun and Neon Genesis Evangelion (particularly the Rebuild of movies). But I suppose the honor goes to Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, since I watched the entire series thrice. (and the condensed movies of the series)

Seriously, if Gravity Falls would've been at least somewhat consistent with their releases I'd put it even above MLP. FOR FUCK'S SAKE, DISNEY, GIMME MORE GRAVITY FALLS. I NEED BOSS MABEL!!!!!

Both are pretty good at characters and plots, as well as some fun worldbuilding. And superb animation and voice acting, of course.
They just put in so much effort it's crazy, and that really pays off.
Same here. I love both of them, can't decide which one I prefer.

I tried watching Adventure Time once, but the humor was so random that it stopped being funny. Granted, I only watched the first episode. Judging from how much people praise it and how in depth it's supposed to be, I might give it another shot.

My Little-AVATAR THE LAST AIRBENDER PSYCHE

I just loved the story arcs in that show.

For lighter comedy, I go to Spongebob. I'm young enough to have grown up watching all the episodes. I can pretty much recite some of them.

Whoah--do you mean you actually have the SailorStars season on DVD?
Because that is AWESOME!
It was never released in the US and the Japanese disks are crazy expensive (I do know one collector who has them,
he paid something like $350.00 for them) I was only ever able to get the Malaysian release (and that after years
of searching.)
