I think this thread is safe. The last one about this subject was over 2 years ago, I believe.

So, I got 50 euros for my PSN-wallet as a gift from a friend, but I really have no idea what to buy! Tons of good games and add-ons! I already have "The secret of monkey island" 1 and 2, but that's all. What should I buy? I was thinking of getting some retro-stuff like Bionic-Commando: Re-armed, Hard Corps, ROcket Knight, Sonic 4 etc.

So what are your favourite downloadable games? What do you think I should buy? And for sake of real discussion, what's your general opinion on downloadable games?

The only things i've downloaded from the PSN are Final Fantasy 7 and 8. And some content pack for Yakuza 3, but that came with the game. Bionic Commando Rearmed is awesome, but hard as balls if you don't have the patience for ye olde side-scrollers. The challenge rooms will really test your skills and tolerance for failure. For the xbox my favourite downloadable is without a doubt Perfect Dark, because i loved that game to bits on the N64 and i got a full 200G for it. This is followed up by Banjo Kazooie and Tooie and Beyond Good & Evil, but that's only because i'm a sucker for nostalgia trips. I got a fair amount of enjoyment out of DeathSpank. Personally though, i don't like downloadable games or content. It tends to be a throw-away experience that lasts for a couple of hours (mainly talking DLC here) then it's over. If i'm going to spend something on par with going out to see a movie then i'd rather do that. I really hate the 'taster' content you get from downloadable games and DLC. I just want fully fleshed out full packages that will last me more than an afternoon.

No PS3 so I can't advise you on what to buy, but downloadable games are some of the best value games on the market right now. I have gotten a lot of joy from Minecraft, and more of a challenge from VVVVVV than any mainstream game.

Megaman 9 and 10 were balls-out fun. (and trust me, I can have alot of fun with my balls out)

Other than those two and re-releases, Scott Pilgrim: the Game deserves a mention. A good beat-em-up is always a great time, and Scott Pilgrim is one of the best 2-D brawlers I've ever played. Online play would have made it perfect.

Still need to check out Castle Crashers, though.

"Cladun: This is an RPG" is a spiffy downloadable PSP exclusive that's got a robust 16-bit pixel character creation system. Maybe worth some consideration if action-RPG's are your cup of tea. Plus, 20$ isn't such a bad asking price, either.

As for my opinion on DL games? Love em to death! I honestly prefer the format over physical retail titles because of the convenience of having numerous games to jumped to at any given time. (Yeah, I got a short attention span.)

I recently bought Magic: The Gathering Duels of the Plainswalkers on Xbox Live. Didn't think I'd really enjoy it, but I've been getting into it.

Acceleration of Suguri x. For a interesting Senko no Ronde clone. For classics, try the R-Type series.

TETRIS every one should own this game, it provided endless hours of challenging fun. And that theme song is the balls. Besides that if you like R&C games quest for booty is a good time.

Sonic 4 is way better than people will lead you to believe. However, if you've played Sonic 2 religiously, you may find it a bit familiar. Especially the final boss.

Trine and Castle Crashers. And I only play them with friends, a lot more fun that way. I've sunk many hours in to Castle Crashers and am just starting on Trine, which is pretty sweet so far.

I also enjoyed Limbo for the 360 but I find it has little to no replay value for my tastes (I don't care much for trophies or achievements).
