Your favourite era of music (that you've actually lived through).

From the very late 60's (was born in '65) to the mid eighties would be my favourite, but by no means is that meant to imply I don't like other music. I enjoy listening to pretty much all types of music (not a 'fan', of a lot of metal though....)

Well I was born in the 90's so I guess i'll go with whatever era was going on then, seeing as how most of the music made in the last decade has sucked ass.

Your favourite era is always the one that was happening when you were 15 - 25 years old. You will always have fond memories of that period in music.
I don't think that is quite as universal as you think it is - my favorite musical era is the Romantic Period of classical composition that took place in the late 1800s and early 20th century. Granted, the bulk of contemporary music that I do enjoy was produced during that period of my life (1998-2008), but with very limited exceptions I didn't actually listen to it (or know it existed at all really) until the past two years of my life rolled around. In point of fact most of the music I heard during that era that was also produced in that era was music I loathed with every fiber of my being (the stuff I love from that time period tending to be far far more obscure offerings that aren't widely known that I only learned about through hindsight and Pandora).

You can't ascribe everything to nostalgia.
OK, good point. But how old were you when you decided you preferred Wagner, Schumann, and Liszt to Disturbed, Kayne and Britney?

I'm probably guilty of overgeneralizing but I still think one's musical tastes are crystallized around that age.

The '80's. Still a lot of different types of music going around, from soul to punk and what not. Most of the early memories of my childhood involved music.

I was 2 when my favourite album came out. :/ Does that count? I was 7 when the 00's metal revival started and I only got into metal about 2 years ago, so I really can't talk, but there's a lot of great metal being released right now.

A lot of shit [sub][sub]coughbulletformyvalentinedisturbedmetalcoreshitcough[/sub][/sub] (in my opinion) metal, too, but, whatever.

Right now.

Extreme metal is stronger than ever. :D
This. Even with all the deaths in metal this year, the underground never dies. ^_^

Oh, and the thrash revival that's been going on for a few years.

I'm currently living through the worst era of music and I would like to say that anyone who enjoys the song "Soul Sister" should be sent to a work camp.
Well, well, what do we have here? An elitist, it seems. Just because you're too lazy to look past what stuff is in the charts to the good stuff in whatever genre it is you like, doesn't mean nothing good exists. And just because you don't like the music that's around today doesn't make it shit. It just means that you don't like it.

OT: My favourite era of music is now. There is a lot of cool stuff kicking around. Hell, even the chart stuff now is better than it has been at any other point since I have been alive. Dubstep and Drum and Bass are both charting, and there is some excellent material to be found. Of course, advances in computer technology have made it possible to make much more intricate and detailed electronic music.

And their is some decent rock and indie around, and some pretty interesting jazz.

I don't really care much about "eras" of music. I just listen to whatever happens to be playing, and if I like it, I like it. Music really is not a big deal for me.

Right now. More progressive bands emerging like Protest the hero, Periphery, Gojira and the like make for some very good times. Oh yes.

Tough question! I genuinely do not recall a time period of my life where I didn't adore the works of Romantic Period composers, so I'm guessing pretty darn early on - way before I turned 15 for certain.

The new century (or 00), great time for post-rock but a very bad time for pop music.
