Great thread! :D

Ahhh, childhood memories.

Sega Genesis' sound chip was pretty sweet!

I know, just can't help it.

Hands down Ares by Ambrosia. Unless you were a mac gamer in the early 90's you'll have no idea what this is. Truly epic midi music.

Wow, a lot of great songs in here. Just got home from watching Transformers ½ an hour ago, and am now spending time on listening to all this music! Awesome!

My all time favorite game theme?

That's a tough one. I can think of a ton which I'd consider fantastic, but which is my favorite?

Alright, I think I know. It's not something I'd listen to on its own, but it's probably the only game song which after having heard it possibly hundreds of times now I still enjoy listening to and that's the true test as far as I'm concerned: The test of time. Any song can be fun to listen to a couple times, but I've been hearing this song for nearly ten years now and still find it nice to listen to.

It's got it all; the dramatic symphony opening, the sweeping scores, the classical instruments, the melodrama of a good fantasy song... but it's also got a softer more soothing side as well, a sort of sad hint behind it all that hints not all is as it seems and it ends on a lingering, foreboding note. Just listening to that song it feels like you're getting the game all summed up for you, it perfectly expresses the game for which it's supposed to represent!

That's why it is the perfect RPG theme as well as my all time favorite videogame theme.

Baten Kaitos and Baten Kaitos Origins. Those two games have some of the most beautiful soundtracks I've ever heard in an RPG. Seriously, check them out for the soundtrack alone and I won't fault you.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - Drake's theme rules
The Last Express - The performance of Sonata for Violin and Piano (C. Franck) in Kronos' private train car.
Final Fantasy VIII - Pretty much everything, really
Grim Fandango - All the pieces of music for Rubacava's nightlife.
Psychonauts - Black Velvetopia
Silent Hill 2 - Entire score
Silent Hill: Origins - Entire score. I honestly think this is Akira Yamaoka's best work.
Super Mario Brothers 2 - Overworld theme (I can't get enough of the baseline)
Beyond Good & Evil - Enough said, I think...
Mass Effect - Title screen music
Mafia - The original score is so very, very good.

Quite a lot of UT3 and DW:Gundam 2 music, and also some music from System Shock 2 and HAWX. There's also the music that plays in the intro to Prototype, it also plays in levels aswell, it fits when you're in a highly infected area of the city and see all the chaos and death going on.

Either "Free Bird" from GTA San Andreas or "The Seeker" from GTA4 or the opening theme to MGS2 (I don't care what anyone says, MGS2 was good and MGS3 was much better)
