Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone could recommend some good freeware games. In return here are some of my favourites:

"the white chamber" - Short adventure game with interesting horror elements.
"Cave Story" - Nice run and gun platformer.
"Gun Girl 2" - Shoot lots of zombies in a metroidvania world with some nice sawblades and other weapons.
"Eversion" - Simple little platformer that gets more interesting as the game progresses. Avoid spoilers for this one.
"Iji" - An interesting platformer offering you choice of routes, upgrades and lethality. Good plot with lots of little logbooks to find.
"Genetos" - Shoot-em-up that takes you on a tour of the genre's history, becoming a beautiful bullet hell on higher difficulties.
"The Spirit Engine 2" - Decent little RPG with a good soundtrack.

"Synesthesia" - Program that turns any midi into a guitar-hero-esque sequence of scrolling bars that can be slowed and played (with scoring) on an electric keyboard. Great if you ever wanted to play a song but have trouble with sheet music.

I recommend all of these. Have you come across any good ones?

Nethack [http://www.nethack.org/]. Roguelike, lovely to kill some time.
League of Legends [http://eu.leagueoflegends.com]. MoBA style game, pay for cosmetics but you can get all the champions easily.
Spelunky [http://www.spelunkyworld.com/]. 2d platformer with randomly generated levels.
Quake Live [http://www.quakelive.com]. Quake 3: Arena in a browser.

LoL and QL aren't freeware so much as free to play, but very much worth the time.

I've been playing Spelunky since Yu first made it available for download. Still one of my favorites, as I recommend to everyone with a PC.

Great fun. Hearty challenge (at least from the start.) Enormous replay value.

I already know about Nethack and Dwarf Fortress through TV Tropes, but don't really think they are my thing. Too much thinking ahead and threat of instant loss for failure is stressful for me, hence why I don't enjoy strategy, especially Fire Emblem games. I also tried La Mulana briefly but found the jump physics too clunky. Guess I've been spoilt by other platformers.

On the subject of free-to-play I hear Echo Bazaar is jolly interesting (was plugged on Extra Credits). Must check that out sometime.

Not that I know of, I don't know of any other projects by that team. It's very worth checking out though. Details and free download here:

It's some flash based game styled after Super Smash Bros. Can't remember it's name, but it's incredibly solid and fun, and has characters such as Goku, Dude from Kingdom Hearts, Lloyd from Tales of Symphonia... It's fantastic. Somebody help me out with the name!!!

I used to play a lot of Soldat, though technically it's shareware.

Super smash flash? Might be the sequel.

"Trilby: Art of Theft" by the one and only Yahtzee. It's good fun and all the stealth works really well, though the controls can be a bit fiddly at times (but that's probably just me being uncoordinated).

And if it counts the 1187 mod for HL2. It was technically free, just on the prerequisite that I had spent money at some previous point on a different game.

Yes, I think that's it. And yeah, it's the sequel(though last I checked, it was only a beta version). I used to play it all the time.

A very indepth (and unforgiving, you have been warned) Roguelike that has kept me hooked since I first discovered it a few years ago.

I'm looking for a new one, how long do games last (at first) and how does it compare to nethack (if you know)?

I love Orbiter. Although It's a fairly realistic space-flight sim, it's pretty good to mess around in, especially if you get the better plugins and enable cheats.

If FPS's are your thing, I've heard Cube is pretty decent.

There's a freeware version of Trackmania which has awesome track creation features

Subspace Continuum - Although the trailer vid they did for it makes it look ultra jerky which it isn't. Online multiplayer 2D arena shooter with loads of game modes and other things. Really fun once you get into it.
