Terranigma? No idea if it is lesser known or not, but if it is, it is my favorite lesser known game.
I just got that.. gonna play it eventually.. but I doubt it'll overshadow my love for Illusion of Gaia.

For me:

The Journeyman Project. A very obscure adventure game that came with a Windows 95 startup pack. It was very fun for me and got me interested in games with time travel agencies. I wish I could've played the sequels and I didn't break the disk.
I PLAYED THAT GAME!! that was awesome. and yes, very obscure. but i lived on obscure games. so this is very much in my neighborhood of game knowledge.

and on that note, my favorite lesser-known game is Chronomaster.

Red Dead Revolver- Great old western game

Divine Divinity- Diablo style RPG but where the quests are actually interesting and diverse

Mafia- Great story, gun fights, missions etc

World in Conflict- probably the RTS that requires the most coordination

Red Orchestra- Great WW2 action. Super-realistic

I would say Psychonauts, since it was little-known at the time of it's release, but I think everyone here knows about it by now, if not only because of Yahtzee's review of it.

I've recently gotten into MEVO and the Grooveriders, a little-known indie game on Steam. It's pretty fun.

Toy Commander. One of the finest games to grace the Dreamcast.
That game was so fucking amazing!!! I'd still be playing it if my D-cast didn't die on me... :(
Another Dreamcast goodie was Re-Volt.

The other game that I really like is Day of Defeat Source.

Great, great game.

Enclave for the Xbox, I'm actually thinking about buying an Xbox original just to play the game again.
I dunno about that, most people hate the Xbox version due to the slightly decreased difficulty in the single player (the removal the Eel in the War Chapter for example) and the class-based online multiplayer that replaced the original 64 game's one. My advice is try to give the multiplayer modes for both the Xbox and 64 versions, see which one you like best and take it from there. Otherwise the Single Player is more or less the same with some minor differences, most aethestically, (the graphics on the Xbox one are downright gorgeous though for a 64 game, the original 64 one's graphics are pretty damn good too) but either way, everyone should play Conker at some point. Classic does not do the game justice. It's more of a masterpiece.[/quote]

I meant the game Enclave for the Xbox. I guess my comment should have been more clear.

I have played through the N64 version of Conker's Bad Fur Day, I don't really have anyone who likes it to play the multiplayer. I want the Xbox version of this game so I can play it on the 360 -- just for nostalgia factor.

KOTOR and KOTOR II

and Star Wars Republic Commando
Umm, what? KOTOR is recognized as one of the most amazing rpgs, not just of its release date, but of all time. KOTOR 2 was well known because it was the sequel to KOTOR. >_>
As for myself, I have to say the Sly Cooper series, and NBA + NFL Street. Easily my favorite sports games, especially for the sheer craziness and wild fun you can have with friends.
Sooorrryyy asshole! i didnt realize that saying that kotor is a lesser known game when nobody talks about it anymore. way to overreact

Freedom Fighters was (and is still) one of my favorites and I'm playing through Jurassic Park: Trespasser. Toy Commander! I loved that game SO much. I remember many a day spent with my brothers having many a war in living rooms and kitchens with bombing runs and land/air engagements. Ah the memories.

One that hasn't been mentioned (as far as I can tell) is G-NOME. Sure the game's difficulty curve was like running into a brick wall and the graphics weren't good (read: they were terrible. Even for 1996) but I remember it fondly and always will. I also like how they gave you the level select cheat IN THE MANUAL. I think they knew how difficult the game was. Still, was great fun.

EDIT: Revolt was another good one.

Disgaea series=best SRPGs pretty much ever... and IT SHOULD BE KNOWN BY ALL, DAMMIT.

Also Earthbound and Mother 3. I mean, Smash Bros. makes more people aware of them, but not very many have actually played those two spectacular games.

I saw Sly Cooper up in this thread; those games were awesome. Those and Jak and Daxter (but I guess it's more of a well-known game series).

Front Mission 3. The story for either arc is absolutely amazing, with each intertwining and being seen from either sides (like, you team up with 2 other teams in one, you destroy them in another, ect.)

Second Sight, one of the best plot twists in gaming which makes everything fall into place at the end, and some fairly decent stealth puzzlers... which can be bypassed if you're gun-happy. The escort bits didn't make me want to eat my own eyes. And while Yahtzee says that when paired up with a man whose hand shoots bees, you're going to f**king lose, it's actually better if you can hide round the corner, concentrate, and POSSESS the man with the hand that shoots bees. Yeah, POSSESS.

So yes, find it and play it.

A little-known PS1 game called Jumping Flash. It was a hybrid shooter-platformer that did it SO right. The sequel was also awesome.

The longest journey - clicking adventure games aren't the rage like they used to be, beautifully made game though.

Beyond good and evil (lesser known ? at least it didn't sell well hehe...) was also a fantastic game

Oh and freedom fighters is a very good game too :)

The Neverhood is my favourite hands-down, but also ICO because no one bought it and it's amazing, and Grim Fandango.
