Yes. This.

Also the obligatory badass that is inherent to FPS games nowadays. That moment when you do something that would probably be impossible in real life, but just so freakin cool!

Speaking of, got a high five off my other half the other day, they just happened to be sat next to me when I was playing a round of Bad Company 2 and witnessed me run from behind a building, slap a couple of blocks of C4 onto the rear end of a tank, leap out of the way as another tank backed into the one I'd just rigged, hit the trigger and KABOOMIE! Both tanks plus a guy on foot taken out in one (5 kills), just as I was about to say "shweeeeeeeeet" I brought up my sniper scope to check a usual sniper location and there was a face blocking my view - very close - and I started taking damage. BOOM, headshot. 6 people in a few short seconds.

Other half: "That was fucking awesome"

Funny thing is I'm usually shite at BC2 yet in those few seconds, with the other half watching, my balls put on some weight.

The TWIST.
I hate the twist... usually the twists are laughably obvious like your npc buddy who;s supposed to be your best friend turning out to be a traitor.
Or they just feel like a kick in the balls when they pull out a suprise character death.
Or somestimes its both.

anyway OT: my favourite part is the story.. when its done right.. and doesnt have stupid twists.

the story.. hmm ALL OF IT. Twists can be pulled off well, just rarely.

But my favourite part is the dramatic ending, nothing like seeing a good story come to an end.

(except the hunger for more later that day)

Or pulling off something amazing, like a huge combo, or a huge cinematic event. shit like that is very memorable.

also I love it when it go's all weird, liek those bits in Batman AA

or that walk through the swamp in Point lookout (fallout 3) ohhhh that was very cool

The Credits, so you can sit back with satisfaction that you just beat another game, its a better feeling if the games challenging, and you finally beat that last boss thats been driving you mad and those credits start to roll, great feeling.. Thats gotta be my favorite part.

The part where I sneak and no-one knows I was ever there. Not that they make those games any more, I miss you Sam Fisher.

True that, nowadays it's just: take cover, shoot enemies, regenerate health, repeat.

The part where I try to aim down the sights, forget I'm playing Halo, and throw a grenade that kills half the enemy team by accident...

Any multiplayer moment where you manage something completely ridiculous against the odds, like beating down an entire team with a flag, before running the entire length of the map with said flag to score whilst your team is too busy fighting over who gets the sniper rifle.

I really think it depends on the game.

In some games, the opening is amazing but the rest is quite repetitive. In others, it's all a bit shoddy until the all the awesome that was saved up throughout is unleashed in the final few minutes.

That said, the tutorial is usually the area I get most nostalgic about, back when everything was new and exciting and all the missions were really easy and I hadn't got tired of winning at everything yet.

True, but when a game has a good twist, it's one of the best feelings you can ever get in a game.

Bioshock was freaken' amazing for that.
