Well this is my absolute favorite song.

Messages by Velvet Revolver.

Not sure why, as there is little that I can relate to this song (yet). I believe that it's because I like the lyrics and the guitar riffs are pleasant to listen to.

I would say that Thunderstruck by AC/DC would be a close second, just because it puts me in a good mood every time I listen to it.

I don't do favorite song of all time for myself. My tastes change, I find new songs, old ones are re-listened.
Right now, I'm really digging Pink Floyd. I'm currently listening to "Time" and it is my #1 right now.

You can't hate Floyd. They just did so much right. They're up there with The Beatles, but you can't compare the two, they're so much different from one another.

"Favourite" changes a lot of the time, genre, band, etc.

One "constant" is Metallica's King Nothing.

Honourable mentions though:

(Can't be arsed to post in all my favs from ABBA, Knopfler or AC/DC, would take way too long. x))

Usually this:

It's just 9 minutes of non-stop awesome. Just 4 blokes pouring their heart and soul into an amazing song.

I've been listening to the album 'Colors' by Between The Buried And Me a lot recently, but I couldn't really pick any specific song on it that I like best. The whole thing works beautifully as each song flows into and compliments the next one.

Favourite song of all time would have to be either:

Or

We must be on the same brain waves. These are literally the bands that I've been getting into via recommendations.

I own every opeth album since Still life and Mastodon's "leviathan", "the hunter" and "live at the aragon"

Is this the feeling they call "love"?

Depends.

Favorite song of all time, probably this:

Right now, a song that I just can't get enough of and appreciate on every level?

Probably this:

Absolutely sublime.
I really enjoyed that. Thanks.

My chosen song isn't my favorite song from my favorite recent CD but it's more like a bite sized version of the cd. Anyone who likes it should check out the entire cd. Spectral Flight Parliament is my favorite song off of Parallax 2 but it's 15 minutes long so I figured start small.

That's a tough one. I don't really have one specific favorite song that I love above all else. But The Count of Tuscany by Dream Theater is one that comes to mind.

:D Glad you liked it.

Also, awesome to see all the love Between the Buried and Me is getting in this thread, this is probably the only time I've ever seen anyone on this site that isn't me actually bring them up.

My current favorite song with vocals is Safety Dance by Men Without Hats.

My favorite non-vocal song is I'll Face Myself Reincarnation version. It will be my favorite forever.
It's an awesome remake of an awesome song. I was so giddy when it was used for the extra boss in P4: Golden. And those strings... they're beautiful.

It's just so marvelous. Shoji Meguro is a fucking godly composer.

Ok, so it seems I have to spread my hipster wings(because apparently I am one, but I'll have to do a thread on that later).

I believe you shouldn't have a favourite song, rather an album because a good album will flow -- not have the songs being gapless, just have coherent flow pacing, tempo, tone, you know, all that jazz -- like one song. But since you asked for a song... I'm gonna give you several (Note if you really want to experience these songs, even if they are the first on their album, I recommend listening to the entire album)

Gorguts -- Obscura (Track 1 from their 1998 release "Obscura")

Neurosis -- Through Silver in Blood & Enclosure in Flame (Tracks 1 & 9 respectively from their 1996 release "Through Silver in Blood")

Death -- A Moment of Clarity (track 8 from their 1998 release "The Sound of Perseverance")

Edge of Sanity -- Crimson (the lone 40 minute song from their 1996 release "Crimson")

Agalloch -- all of their songs from all their studio albums.

Last, and certainly not least,

Megadeth -- Holy Wars ... The Punishment Due (track 1 from their 1990 release "Rust in Peace")

It may just be, but then this gets weird :/ also, we have almost exactly the same post count. Da fuck :| are you parallel universe me?

Edit: seeing lots of Between The Buried And Me mentions in this thread. Anyone want to start a prog metal usergroup?

Don't have a favourite song really, but Closer by NIN has always been a song a go back and listen to over and over. It's hard to describe just how innovative, alien and mysterious this song sounded back when it was released.

The part after the first chorus when those creepy stuttering synths come in, then the boiling, beautiful, ghostly pads.... god it's just magical. Total sex.

Excellent choice.

For me for about the last half a year my favourite songs have been Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men and The Wolves by Ben Howard.

All time, probably Armageddon it by Def Leppard.

Not to mention that we're both born in the same year.

Also, I'm DTF for prog metal group. seeing as it's my metal type of choice.
