I can't remember another soundtrack where I actually loved every single tune. I have the whole soundtrack and have listened to each song several times. It REALLY helps me write and get work done. It's a pretty vivid and varied group of music.

I'm gonna start playing Chrono Cross with my friends soon though...and it's looking like that just might take the cake. I've never played it before, but oh man, looks like a masterpiece.

That's some evocative stuff. I'm a fan of emotional music and atmospheric stuff more than anything, so my itunes and youtube playlists are pretty RPG heavy. Skyrim's ost has helped a lot with my homework lately.

I have too many:p... I have these OSTs on my phone:

-All the OSTs from the Mass Effect trilogy
-FF13 and 13-2. Gapra Whitewood is incredible
-Persona 4
-Far Cry 3
-Katawa Shoujo. Painful History man... gets me every time.
-Anarchy Reigns
-TWEWY

And the best of all- Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt.

Greatest. Anime. Ever.

One could argue if the third movie had any rails to begin with. Seriously, what was the point of everything that happend?

Well I did like it but jesus did most of it not make any sense like how the fuck did Gendo and Fuyutski manage to build a new Eva 13 and manage for 14 years by themselves vs WIlle?.

Also the whole Kaworu deal smells like Anno slipped back into another depressive moment but then again he still hates out guts either way.

I just hope by the final movie (due this year) everything will come full circle.

My personal favorite is probably the Chrono Cross soundtrack, but Chrono Trigger, Journey, and Shadow of the Colossus all deserve special mention as well. Each of them left a large impact on me during play, and I remember them more fondly than I have any other soundtracks.

Anno 2070 is great stuff:

As is Paraworld:

Both of them are by Dynamedion, which in general is a pretty fantastic music creator.

Lest not forget we're never really told what state the rest of the world is in. I mean, Third Impact sorta, kinda occured, but then not really. But millions of people still died. Where the hell are Toji and Suzuhara, or Kaji for that matter?

Everything that was established in the previous two movies is just more or less packed away in order to focus on an almost completely foreign setting, one of which we have no real idea what the stakes are. Misato spends the entire movie playing the stoic captain and not really saying anything. Asuka and Mari haven't aged due to an apparent curse I was never aware of. Mari yet again does nothing plot related at all and is just sort of there.

What the hell was happening at Nerv? Who was giving Shinji, or anyone else there, food? Was that place still running, who was running it, and how? And yes, how the heck did Gendo and Fuyutsuki build a frikking Eva?

And what was Wille, or whatever they were called, doing this entire time? Were they fighting Angels? Where they fighting Seele? Where they fighting the two old men and two 14-year olds from ruined Nerv?

Rei did nothing, and I do mean NOTHING the entire running time.

What was the point of Kaworu's relationship with Shinji in this new equation? The whole thing felt rather forced, like it was there because it had to be there, but didn't carry even one iota of the weight it did in the original series. And the attempt to recreate the "Ode to Joy" sequence from episode 24 fell pretty much flat on its ass. Having yet another Impact occur in this movie didn't help much either and felt indulgent. Also, not knowing what the state of this future world was, I couldn't really care less whether Fourth Impact occured or not.

In the end it felt like they could've just as easily started this movie off where it ended, because nothing that happened felt like it attributed anything to the overall plot at all.
Yeah... I'm a bit puzzled by this turn of events.

Yeah... I'm a bit puzzled by this turn of events.
At the start of the film we I can sort of understand Shinji being locked away and sent up into earth's orbit thanks to Nerv/Seele as a form of punishment/containment but it was really weird fidning out that the ship Wille uses (The Wunder as it's apparently called) needed to use Eva 01 as their primary energy source and engine for it to create it's own AT field and take flight.

The deal with Gendo needing Shinji again seemed odd at first but he seems to be the only pilot capable of awakening an Eva which led me into deep thinking to my thoughts it appears Gendo was behind everything and even knew Kaworu would be cast down as the final angel to start 4th impact and the probable placing of two identical lance of L's instead of the one Kaworu used at the end of 2.0 (seriously I'm major confused as to where it's gone).

I don't understand how Lilith had moved from her cross considering 01 was the centre of 3rd impact which must mean central dogma was the epicentre, what also confuses me more is that Lilith is Rei from the EoE movie and her head is somewhere near where ever Gendo was standing.

Then we have Gendo literally killing all 5 Seele members from what a lot of fans are saying thus far which means it's just Gendo and Fuyutski vs Wille for the 4th film and they only have one Eva left since mark 06 and mark 0.9 are destroyed.

I totally agree with you though on the Beethoven no.9 falling completely flat since it felt really slow paced and Kaworu dying all over again felt far worse than episode 24 (which leads me to believe Anno is upset again like he always is).

And what's worse is that Anno apparently scrapped the original 3.0 script and storyboard (everything you saw in all the trailers is no longer part of the movie or in existence for that matter) and we now get this massive off rails clusterfuck of a movie that threw away the last two movies that were on plot and not too edgy.

Also it's believed Toji and Suzuhara, or Kaji were killed by 3rd impact which again doesn't make any sense but I would kind of believe Toji and Suzuhara being dead because they are school kids and not top priority for Nerv/Gendo at the end of 2.0/3.0

Deus Ex
Still gives me goosebumps.
I swear, you stole that post straight out of my mind. Was gonna do the exact same thing, except maybe with the main theme.

But frankly, there's just so many videogame soundtracks I can't choose. I guess I'll go by what I have on my iPod right now:

Deus Ex (As mentioned above)
Bastion (Some of the freshest, most unique music out there)
Mass Effect 2 & 3 (Some great jogging songs here)
Oblivion & Skyrim (I love me some atmosphere, and Jeremy Soule has always been fantastic)
Katawa Shoujo (Yet unlistened to, gives me way too many feels)
Final Fantasy VIII (Seriously, the only reason I like that game so much is the soundtrack)
Half-Life II (Kinda odd, you never realize how great these tracks are when you're in-game, mostly because it's silent most of the time)
and both Portal ending themes.

And that's just the gaming selection. I've got a bunch of movie soundtracks (Mostly by John Williams, surprising no one), and of course just normal old music.

The thing is, I'm not even really a fan of the Rebuild movies, but this total 180 just doesn't make a lick of sense.

It's not even an "episode 25/26 intropection" type twist.

How do you not have Morrowind in there too? Half of Skyrim's soundtrack is just Morrowind's, anyway. Also, Soule really has always been amazing. I thought that even before I knew who he was, back when nobody knew who he was and he did Total Annihilation, a game about a decade before its time which was possibly the first game ever to change the music based on what you were doing, and it did it better than most every game since.

What? Another one of these? You mean I've got to go hunting through Youtube again? Okay...

This is pretty much my favorite piece of music ever. I'm surprised the Madoka Magica soundtrack wasn't already mentioned. Even though the OP mentioned Evangelion, not a lot of anime soundtracks here. Yuki Kajiura's haunting soundtrack made the bestest anime evur even bestester.

I think I have a crush, because Yuki Kajiura did the music to Fate/zero as well. Or maybe I just like choir. Fate/zero is about two things: brooding and fighting. And this is music to fight by.

ARTHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I felt like I had to balance out the anime. It's actually tricky to think of things where I liked the whole soundtrack rather than just a couple songs. But The Thousand-Year Door certainly does that for me. I love this game, and damn that soundtrack is amazing.

Umm, either Juno, the entire .hack//Sign soundtrack, or Spirited Away. Probably .hack//Sign though, goddamn I've listened to that too many times.

For movies it's definitely LotR. SO MANY EMOTIONS!!!!! Seriously though, whenever I hear that soundtrack I immediately feel as if I've been transported to Middle Earth. It's comforting, exciting, and just about every other emotion you can think of.

For video games Bastion wins hands down. The variety in the soundtrack is awesome and every tune in it is memorable. Set Sail/Coming Home is probably my favourite piece of music in any video game ever (Honor for All coming in second).

Non videogaming would be Cowboy Bebop and the James Bond films.

Videogaming related, I'd go with the Metal Gear series, followed by Bastion.
