The fantasy genre has quite a few famous names out there; Harry Potter, Zoro (or Zolo), Gandolf, Kratos, etc. and they are all great at what they do. I don't want to create a versus thread because it would be pointless (and because everyone knows that gun beats magic anyways), but I am curious as to what your favourite swordsman and spell-caster are (or spell-swordsman as the case may be). Also, they don't literally have to be a spell-caster. Someone like Storm from X-men fits the role too.

I just think that the character with the most depth, power, and all around badassness is the Dragon Reborn, Rand Al'Thor. He has a simple (not really) and generic history, a farm boy who finds he's the worlds savior, but his dragon tattoos set him aside from all those green-haired, JRPG heroes. Admit it, you've thought about getting those tattoos too.

No. Rincewind.

With the Luggage being a close second. I mean, come on, how can you hate something that's half suitcase, and half homicidal maniac?

Gandalf. I like that he isn't flashy with his magic, but practical(i.e. using his staff as a torch in Moria). Plus he can still kick ass in melee combat, something most magic users tend to fail at.

Inigo Montoya AND The Man-In-Black from The Princess Bride.

What? You didn't expect me to actually pick one over the other did you?

Kind of a toughie. I am going with Force Commander.

I fail at 40K a all I have played would be the RTS games. But wielding a hammer named "Doomslayer" into battle against flame throwing satan zombies is fucking badass.

I never admire fictional characters but I do admire Hattori Hanzo who was a 15th century Ninja (not a Samurai as many believe). The Hanzo gate in Tokyo is in honour of this famous warrior which still stands today.

Yoda fit's both nicely. and would get into my top 10 in either category.

picking a good sword fighter is hard now that I think about it... but I will just put out there almost anyone in Highlander is in the running for me. but if forced to pick I say Jin from Samurai Champloo.

as for spell casters (if your counting storm as a wizard, not saying your wrong) I pick the Sliver Surfer. 2nd choice being Dr. Strange, who will always be (no matter what Marvel says) is the Sorcerer Supreme.

The biggest bad ass of all time is of course Sandor "The Hound" Clegan from A Song of Ice and Fire. Not only does he have an amazing back story but he kills everything in his path. In the first book he cuts a little kid in half and laughed about it, that's what is know as manliness.

Raphael from Soul Calibur. The only character in the history of fiction to ever be cooler after becoming a vampire.

"Gimme a Sword and I'll win this war for you." - Madmartigan. Well, he was great...

My favorite spellcaster, was a non-spellcaster in a world of all spellcasters. Tavi of Calderon and his amazing bridge clearing death lazer.
