There was a Gamecube game with Buffy the Vampire Slayer in it. And I'm going to go with her. I know she isn't really a "videogame character". But, she was a strong independent female character, who still managed to be flawed and human.

She is the best female character I can think of off the top of my head. She should be an example for any writer, trying to create a strong female character.

I always loved Samus, but after what Other M did to her and Deus Ex HR came out, Faridah Malik stands out. Tough customer, always there at the end of a mission with the exfil, beautiful, and cheeky(like what she did to homeboy in Hehgsha). I had to replay from an earlier save after the unthinkable happened during the crash, couldn't let that happen.

Ive spent many o time thinking about the Kasumi, Ayane and Hitomi from Dead Or Alive. None of which Ill say is healthy.

Hmm... Tough choice. Bayonetta, Samus and Chun Li come immediately to mind. But I think I'll go with Claire Redfield.

I'm rather fond of Alyx Vance from HL2. Alyx is just so authentic and real. She's strong and funny, but she also has her weak spots and limits. She's human, and she isn't afraid to show that.

Morrigan is definitely up there, yeah. Kinda hot, kinda bitchy and really sarcastic.

Zoey from L4D, for the same reasons.

If I had to pick a top one, though...Probably Noa from Legend of Legaia. She was the first video game character I ever really connected with.

I know a literal horde of people will leap to object but, Ashley Williams from Mass Effect. What can I say, I like tough military women and I honestly just thought that Ashley was very well characterised and believable. She was human I guess is what I'm saying, with all the flaws and perks that come with it.
While Mass Effect 2 did rather drop the ball, I am hopeful Mass Effect 3 will pick up a bit better. Especially after reading some of the dialogue from the spoiler script that was leaked ann can confirm that the best bits of her personality are intact.

Also while I'm here, I quite like Cortana from Halo as well. I don't know how far she counts as she's technically a hologram and not a real woman but I still count her.

Probably Veronica from Fallout: New Vegas.

I liked her happy and chirpy personality and the way she would sarcastically comment on major events and people. Yet, despite this she still showed a much more serious side during her personal quest and when talking about Elijah after Dead Money.

Kreia (Knights of the Old Republic 2)

She is in my mind both the best character in video games as well as the best in the Star Wars universe. She's ridiculously well-written, and is backed by a fantastic vocal performance.

Nevermind female characters. Kreia is my favorite character in games, regardless of gender.
