The way you finally took him out... I honestly shouted it out along with my Shepard.

Anyway, my favorites? Thane certainly takes top spot. Loved him in battle, loved his storyline, and in a game of fantastic voice acting, I found his to be the best. His part in ME3 brought me to tears, as well as the letter... gah, damn it Bioware, stop getting me emotionally invested in your characters!

Second is a three way tie between Garrus, Tali and Miranda. Then... almost everyone else for third. Then Kaiden, Jacob and James come in last, simply because... while not bad, none of them were particularly interesting.

I have to say, I don't think I've ever found anything else where I enjoyed the characters as much. Even the bad guys were well done, even to the point of me right-out rooting for one of them (... seriously, if there was ever a 'everybody/every relay lives' ending, my idea of an epilogue would be Shepard and co. aiding Aria in taking back Omega). It was an incredibly fun ride, and I dearly hope that we may see more in the future... Shepard's story is over, but there's still so much to be done with the larger setting.

Hmmm, it's tricksy. In no particular order:

Have to give a bit of love to Kaiden, he doesn't seem to get much, poor fella. Perhaps it's the Carth Factor, but I never played that game so his VA doesn't bother me. I like him. The Sentinel role was a good foil to my Infiltrator Shep. His story was well developed. He's a bit too concerned with regulations, but my FemShep is trying to break him out of that.

Thane's story I found really touching and thought out. I didn't use him too much as a companion because his skillset was similar to my own, but I did romance him in ME2. Mordin is just brilliant. His way of speaking, his personality, his humour (the sea shells conversation in ME3, his penchant for Gilbert and Sullivan)... Yeah. Wrex and Garrus for pretty much the same reasons as most other people here, and Liara for being the emotional balance of the team.

Everyone else I'm cool with, but I never liked Jacob much, just couldn't warm to him. He felt bland. I'm not sure about James yet (I'm only up to Tuchanka in ME3, so still a way to go). And I'd agree about Zaeed trying too hard to be a badass with little story to back him up.

I liked the vast majority, though Jacob was so very unremarkable.
Favourites would have to be Liara (that romance scene), Garrus (for just being Garrus), and Wrex. Real shame we didn't get him as at least a temporary squadmate.

That said, I've only played ME2 and ME3. I liked what I've seen of Wrex though, he might have made it onto the list if I managed to actually play with him as a squadmate.

My favorites would have to be pretty much everyone from ME1. Least favorite being Kaiden of course. Despite what anyone says, Vega really grew on me. Didn't think I would like him until I heard his backstory and talked with him a little in game. I've also been a big advocate that Ashley was a really good squadmate, most just treated her as a racist *****, I liked her.

Bro-4-life Garrus by far, along with Grunt and Wrex. Krogan are just so cool. Also I didn't mind Zaeed, apart from his loyalty mission he gives a sense of "Shock-Trooper"-ness* to the squad, being from a soldier background. My favourite romance however would be Tali,just because.

*You know what I mean, I'm not crazy!......right?

Most the lists I am seeing seem fairly similar. Not having actually played the first Mass Effect (I play on PS3) I can't fully answer the question with all my knowledge. My list would probably be as follows:

1. Kasumi- I loved her, I really wish there was more of her and she wasn't just a DLC for ME2
2. Garrus- No explanation needed.
3. Zaed- Zaed and Mordin was actually a great combination. Zaed's maxed Inferno Grenade and Mordin's full Cryoblast was a force to be reckoned with.
4. Mordin- Didn't use him much the first play through, but used him more the second and realized just how awesome he is.
5. Legion- I don't think I really need an explanation for this one either.
6. Tali- It's hard for me to choose 6. I liked a lot of the characters in ME2 for various reasons so for me, 6th spot could go to a few really, but I'm picking Tali based on the fact I probably used her more than others by the time you get her in ME2.

Wow. There sure is a lot of love for Garrus in this thread. I almost feel bad for constantly replaying the ME2 end mission just to see him take that shot to the face like a friggin' champ...

Okay, should mention I've only played up til ME2, but I rather enjoyed this bunch for the interesting backstories and the fact I wasn't annoyed in talking to them between missions. Oh, and do feel free to add Tali in there. She was all sorts of cool to.

I swear to god there needs to be a re-imagining of Mass Effect as a buddy cop movie starring Shepard and Garrus.

This. So much this. I didn't really pay attention to him when I first played ME1, but after what happened in ME2 I went back to see him again. Awesome the whole way through.

Liara and Jack are my first choices for romance, of the squad members. Liara was my LI right from the get go in my first ME playthrough and even before the LotSB DLC I stayed loyal to her in ME2 (partly because I never got as far as some people on the Garrus and Thane bandwagons, and Jacob... meh). Jack I really liked in ME2. I liked how you had to gradually wear away the layers of brittle hostility to find her true self.

Wrex is awesome and I've loved seeing him grow over the 3 games from a world weary mercenary to a leader with a vision for his people.

Mordin is just a hoot - I'm a complete sucker for the singing scene. On top of that though, I really grew attached to him after his loyalty mission in ME2 - seeing him wrestle with what he'd done to the Krogan was some really great character writing.

Tali's development has been great across the series. Her super awkward romance dialogue in ME2 is really cute and it's cool to see her grow from being quite inexperienced to helping shape the direction of her people.

I wouldn't've thought the ship's computer would get this one but after ME3's philosophical discussions and her interactions with Joker, plus the fact that I used her a lot on my first playthrough of ME3, I'm giving this spot to EDI.

An honourable mention to Zaeed, too. I didn't really like him during my first playthrough but he's since grown on me hugely, once I took the time to listen to his annecdotes and used him enough to get some of his great dialogue.

Most of them are good, but some more than others.

Garrus because Garrus... clear favorite.
Legion and Wrex sharing 2nd cause i can't really decide which one i like more, and just behind them by a tiny margin is Tali, Mordin and EDI, again can't decide between these, just that they're slightly behind the others.

Legion---A truly unique character that literally developed a personality by the end
Wrex---Duh
Grunt---A krogan that was manufactured but had to prove himself to be one of the best, and also he's funny.
Javik---His thoughtless comments and irking people are hilarious.
Ashley---The most "human" character, I guess. Also poetry, no matter how sucky.
