Game: Mortal Kombat 9

Match: Sub-Zero(me) vs. Cyrax(XxM1M1KxX)

Round 1: This went badly for me. How bad? Flawless Vectory bad.

Round 2: This round started off better, but 8 seconds in I was getting my ass kicked again. Suddenly I was landing combos and making headway. But after getting him to one final hit he caught me with his X-ray move and very nearly takes the match. I win the round by jumping over an incoming net and jump punching him.

Round 3: Now shit gets serious. One more round to show who the better fighter is. The difference is, Cyrax is no longer dominating. Yes, I am now the one kicking the shit out of him. The fight is over with me still having health to spare. Now to FINISH HIM! Back, forward, back, the game session is no longer available. ... The game couldn't take the epicness of the fight, apparently.

So anyone else have some epic fighting game moments?

Hmmm I suppose the one that always sticks out for me is taking on all comers in Soul Calibur III at an anime convention in Australia not going to bother explaining how I came to be there but I got bored after a bit and found they had a games section so I went in and there was Soul Calibur III playing with 3 people around it with winner stays on rules.

I joined in and got trashed straight away as I had not played the game in a year or so and my spacing was well off and if you whiff your moves in SC its very very bad. I then got some shit by another guy playing a pretty crap Mitsurugi who claimed he `KNEW ALL DA MOVES` and that he was unbeatable. Now I can play SC not to pro standard but I think I am above average at the games in general and I know when someones good or not and this guy didnt have a clue so I waited for my turn to come around again and I ended up facing this self proclaimed best Mitsurugi player and double perfected him.

I then went on to win the next 30 matches against all comers before I had to leave I even had a small crowd of 15-20 people around me watching me play it felt epic even if all but one of the people I played were not very good it still felt awesome having people cheer you on and watching you perform.

Oh and the Mitsurugi player left after me beating him 5 times in a row but to his credit he did take back the shit he said earlier even though I didnt tell him to.

I played Siegfried throughout except for a match against the Mitsurugi player when I played a mirror match against him to shut him up after he said I only use Siegfried (i.e the one character I actually know how to use). When he lost this match thats when he left.

I dont have many epic stories now I usually get beaten hard in fighting games despite my love for them in general.

Going to a SSB:Brawl tournament (IT COUNTS) and signing up for 2v2s. My partner chose Meta Knight and I chose Ike. I got laughed down by the opposition for my choice.... and then we almost own the finals. *sniff* So close.

But yeah it was a glorious feeling going in there and these guys talking trash and that they're #__ in the world/australia. Then just wrecking them with my team mate in a 2v2 fight. I also enjoyed the move we did where my mate swooped in and grabbed one and I knocked them out with my C Right move which is slow but hits hard. The guy ran out of stock and raged that it was cheap.

I like it when people who are rude to the opposition get put in their place, that's why it's such a fond memory. I'm glad that the people we faced in the finals were good willed and knew it was just for fun. They may have beaten us but I have no ill feelings towards them since they treated it like we did - a source of fun and hopefully prizes! XD

I imagine my shining moment in Fighting games was back during the SNES era. I was a fairly avid gamer at the time, but I hadn't gotten into fighting games as of yet. I had tried MK1 and SF1, but I didn't really enjoy them. One day I went over to my m8's place and he had just gotten a SNES (he was a bit behind the times as the N64 was only a few months from release) and the only game he had was this little title known as Killer Instinct! Well obviously I hadn't played it, hell I hadn't even heard of it yet. I decided to give it a go against him anyhow.

He was a fairly avid fighting game player, but it had be relegated to mostly arcades at the time. So while he already knew the move set and the concepts for the game, I had the advantage of knowing my way around a SNES controller. I spent the first 20 minutes getting my ass handed to me by killer combos and the occasional ultra combo before having my eureka moment... I hopped on Jago and discovered the button mashing glory that is Jago. 5 minutes later I was two wins up and 20 losses down (approximately as I can't actually remember the numbers), within the next half hour I had started a complete reverse of my fortunes and went on an undefeated streak.

This event is what got me into fighting games period. Since then I've found a number of fighting game series that I enjoy (and a few that I don't), participated in a few tournaments (never won, but did well), and found a new genre to love.

Guilty Gear Isuka

Guilty Gear is just like the other regular fighting games, like Dark Stalkers, Streetfighter, Mortal Kombat etc. The thing is, unlike those other games, the iteration that is Isuka happens to be up-to 4 players at once. I just wanted to emphasize it is not a smash bros clone. That said, I won a match against two of my friends in a 2 vs. 1 game, and I feel pretty awesome for that. To make this even better, I was gloating at the start that I could probably beat them both at once if I used Zato-1, and they thought the idea was ridiculous as neither found much worth in that character.

Lots of yelling and controller throwing ensued XD

I was playing Tekken 6 online with some Japanese guy and he won the first round with a perfect. Then I won the remaining rounds with a perfect. Oh and I won against a Deidara spammer in Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 using Gai. I got some congrats from him afterwards, but I was just trying to survive his attacks. When I used the chakra thing that lets you close in on your opponent fast some of Deidara's bombs turned out to actually be regular shuriken type projectiles and with the dynamic entry move and lots of taijutsu it gets easier to win.

Pretty much any time I use Phoenix Wright in Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 and don't get completely trounced.
I like using Phoenix Wright for the same reason I like using Dan in Street Fighter; No one knows how to play against them. Dr. Dooms thinking they're all that and just flying away and shooting finger lasers to lame out Turnabout mode.
No, sir. Level 3 for you. No alibi, no justice, no dream, no hope.

More recently I felt pretty satisfied with a Persona 4 Arena win. I was Yosuke and against a Mitsuru that just kept auto-comboing until I try anything to get out of all her crap and then just chucks her persona at me.
Come the second round, I managed to Dodge my way out of a sweep tacked onto an auto-combo and just managed to Dodge, Moonsault and abuse Tentarafoo all the way to victory from there.
To actually witness, it would have just looked like I got lucky with my predictions and abused the same couple of setups over and over again for two rounds. Because I did. But I was proud of myself so shut up.
It's hard to beat someone who can just Furious Action out of every mixup I try.

EDIT:
Oh, also on Persona 4 Arena, I lost to a Yukiko and instead of getting mad and sulking like I usually do I messaged the player to compliment them on how well they zoned me out because I was genuinely impressed.
Reflecting on my usual temper when I'm playing fighting games, that was probably my finest moment.

Game: Whichever one has the dude with the Falcon Punch.

I was playing one with a friend YEARS ago, and he was whoopin' my ass 3 times out of 4. Then one match started, we both back away from eachother and I tried to test out a basic combo before I engaged him. He suddenly dashes at me as I'm testing it and run right into the Falcon Punch for a 1 hit K.O.

I was ridiculously happy that day.

Killer Instinct Gold, the only fighting game I've really gotten into enough to do well in. Well enough to beat the highest difficulty exactly once. To say I felt awesome was an understatement, and the final boss music is ideal for pumping one up to do some hyper-fast combos, especially when one fighter is low on health. Observe:

K, first of all, I'd like to mention that I am really not good with fg's.
So, the moment:
During firstfew months of Super Street Fighter IV I played against a guy who used Ken (yeah, another one). I was playing as Dudley. The fight was standart "first to 2". 3rd round, we are both at minimum of HP. He rushes me really hard and then jumps in the air and does air qcb+k (air tatsumaki...). Something hits me and I use Dudleys ex hcb+p(cross counter).
IT CONNECTS! Then, I follow it with second super (Corckscrew cross). Win.
You have no dignity!

The most recent one was with Tekken Tag Tournament 2. I played against my friend who is always my main playing buddy with fighting games. My team consisted of Armor King and Craiq Marduk. His team was King and Feng. I absolutely hate Feng. I find him cheap and too strong and I always lose because I can't handle Feng and make stupid mistakes against the character. We were playing and it was clear that I was losing again. Something snapped and I just would't accept it. After that I played just knew everything that I should know and do the right stuff against the right moves. I made a comeback and wouldn't any games anymore.

Mine was playing Capcom vs SNK 2. Me and a friend of mine had thrown down and I was using a small girl who had a katana (can't remember her name, it's been YEARS, but I tihnk she was from Samurai Showdown. My partner was Vega from Street Fighter. Because of the speed of our chosen characters, we were everywhere dodging attacks like crazy. We were tied in the last round with neitehr of us having more than one light hit worth of health left, and just as he dived in to finish me off my fingers slipped on the controller. Suddenly, the screen flashed bright white and my character suddenly appeared on the otehr side of the screen. Everything paused a moment as we both tried to figure out what happened and then Vega fell over, KOed. The whole match felt epic and ended epicly.

We ended up playing 100 matches that day and ended with a score of 50-50. It was crazy.

I have lots of fond memories from my Tekken games so figure I should mention them.

To wit: I played a few matches one summer on a Tekken 1 arcade (1997 I think), Tekken 2 was my first game for my Playstation, Tekken 3 was when I learned there was more to these games than mechanical practice, didn't have a PS2 by the time Tekken 4 came around but saw it in Supermarket consoles and played it there (Hurray for Kazuya returning ^^). Best moment with the series came in Tekken 5, Jinpachi hard mode, me playing Kazuya and beating him for the first time.

That was one broken boss. Devil and True Ogre had nothing on that guy. Teleports, beam spams, unblockable stuns, geez. He handed my character's pixelated asses to me more times than I can count (and some victories came by him not using specific attacks too much). But the first time I got the second round win out of him (I always play best of 3 rules against the computer) was the best feeling. First round I was mauled after some stuns but I scraped a victory. Second round... damn, I dodged his beam spams twice, prevented a few stuns by attacking first, took advantage of everything I could according to his positions. I don't remember ever playing a fighting game match that well before or since, than when I fought Jinpachi on hard mode and laid a Perfect on his ass. Kazuya winning never felt so satisfying ^_^

However, my very best memory with a fighting game has to be a match of Dragon Ball Z: Legends, for the Sega Saturn.

I was at a friends house, at his birthday party, playing a Super Vegitto against a SSJ3 Goku controlled by another friend. In that game, matches were decided by weakening your oponent enough to be hit by your character's special attack. Whoever managed that 3 times won the match (essentially best of 5 rules). Even In those olden games, whomever started a combo could could not be blocked after starting (unless someone messed up), so matches came down to who could start combo sections faster.

First time, he started. Second time, I did. Third time, he again. Fourth time, he started combos first but didn't have enough energy to go all the way, so his character got exhausted and mine laid on the smackdown, my win. Fifth, shit got real. Everyone was at the edge of their seats cheering for us over this over 10 min long fight. We were so nervous we were messing controls and not building momentum on combos, meaning the other could counter with combos of their own. We were in a literal Dragon Ball Z Vegitto/Goku Slugmatch. No momentum was gained by either of us, but our energy bars were depleting fast. His depleted first so his Goku got exhausted and stopped fighting to recover...

But I was having so much fun. At this point in time, the anime was all the rage in my country and we were all fans. I literally asked myself What would either of these 2 do in this situation! And I. Just. Sat there. I recharged my energy to full and told him to do the same. The room went ballistic, we started again with full energy and eventually he won. I admit, back then I was a bit miffed but it had been my decision to let him recover, and it really didn't matter. Both of us felt like the ultimate badasses at age 6. That shit was Glorious!

Two moments stick out for me.

Firat was in CvS2 on the Xbox. I was playing inline against one of the top rated guys on the leaderboards. We were both down to our last characters which were, unfortunately for me, Zangief for me and Blanka for him. It was an even fight for the most part, back and forth until we ended up full screen apart with time running down and me being in chip damage territory. I knew he was going to Blanke Ball to try to chip me out. I activated my N groove bar. I was right, he Balled.. and I did Zangief's anti air super at the last second. Caught him out of the Ball and won the match. He rage quit before I got credit for the win. It felt damn good.

Second was in Tekken Tag in the arcade. I was running my Huh? team of Hwoarang and P-Jack. I had beaten a few players and was feeling it. A crowd had actually started to gather around the machine and, for once, I wasn't just part of said crowd. I ended up fighting a team with King in it which caused me some problems as I've always hated fighting him and, especially bad for Hwoarang, King has a kick reversal. Fought him to the point where, of course, my P-Jack was hurting as was his other character so it was just Hwoarang and King left at fairly low life. I remembered this silly but awesome looking trick that I'd messed around with before but never got to really work.. so I tried it. f+3, b+3. It's been changed in Tekken games since, but Hwoarang takes a small step forward, lifting his left leg into flamingo stance and sort of faking a kick, then steps back and delivers a slightly delayed spinning kick to the head with the same leg. The king player saw the step forward and froze. He didn't know what to do. By the time he reacted and hit a button my spinning kick caught him for the counter and I won the match. The crowd that had gathered actually let out an audible gasp. I'm pretty sure I lost rather unceremonisouly against the next guy that stepped up but that was just a killer moment.

Persona 4 Arena .

When i made a combo with Elizabeth that will 9/10 when a player get's caught by it they will die . It's a the combo itself does about 70% damage but the reset is so perfect it's so hard to get out of . Even if you burst , you have to burst at the right moment to get out of it .

It does take a bit of timing , and setting up . But it's almost an instawin . Iv'e gotten many perfects due to it . All i need is 23 Sp to be able to do it infinitely .

Well the one match of BlazBlue where I discovered the true power of Mu-12's keepaway was hilarious. Yes Hakumen, keep working for that Astral... See where that leads you.

"Imma Negative Penalaty myself then sit on the opposite side of the screen and counter the moment she rushes me down! Genius! It's not like she has infinite guns right?"

He did this TWICE. Then tried to Astral one of my projectiles from full screen away. What an idiot. He went in waaay too late and my Gun Fortress ripped him to pieces. Mu-12's keepaway is hard to stop once it locks you down once.

Oh and me and Krazykid were having a few rounds in P4A, I was playing Naoto and he was I think Yosuke. He told me that Naoto's instakill is piss easy to avoid and only people who panic ever get hit by it.

So naturally I decided to test his theory in one of our games, he avoided it by standing still (that still makes no sense) and when he came in for the punish I threw him into the corner and killed him with Naoto's OTHER instakill. Hamaon OP.

Way back when arcades existed, I was an above average Street Fighter 2 player. I had tons of great memories from those days. But my favorite was a guy putting his quarter in the machine and talking the biggest load of smack about how awesome he was.

He picked M. Bison. He tried to do the Psycho Crusher back and forth and apparently I was supposed to just stand there or something. I dunno. I beat him in less than 20 seconds. Twice.

Then to his cries he assured me that if I picked ANY other character, he'd "take me to school". So as the match started, I allowed him to pick my character for me. He chose Dhalsim.

Shortly thereafter I thanked him for the double PERFECT I'd just earned and he went on his way. Hopefully a little less eager to talk such a big game.

Had a match online in Street Fighter 4 where I was playing Cammy and the other guy was playing T. Hawk. At some point, we got into a rythm. he would jump up and do his dive thing diagonally across the screen, while I would use my strongest spiral arrow to move horisontally across it, barely missing each other. And we just kept on doing that a few more times. Sounds boring, but I was having the time of my life fighting someone with the exact same mindset as me, and was very pleased with myself when I suddenly stopped and knocked him out of the air with a cannon spike.

I'm not very good at fighting games.

One time I was playing Smash Bros. Brawl as Kirby. I wasn't doing that well throughout the match and was down to one life, few KOs, with my teammate doing most of the work. When Pit, the final opponent left (who was also at one life), was trying to fly back onto the map shortly after me joking about how bad I had done, I basically just flew over him and yelled "That's it! Look out below!" doing Kirby's down-B in the process. I slammed into him, launching him against the map so hard he rebounded out of the map faster than I could kill myself. A lot of laughs were shared, and I still haven't been one-uped by anyone I know in terms of ways to get the final KO.

I guess the other one was when I was playing Brawl online as Mario and the other three people were obviously a little ticked when I decided to join their game. Basically, they teamed up on me with a Pikachu, Samus, Metaknight combo on Final Destination. While I didn't win, I did manage to get a Sudden Death against the Pikachu where a random bomb blew me off the map. Still, taking those three characters out while they were teaming up on me while I was Mario was still excellent as far as I was concerned.
