The probably proudest moment I've ever had was in SSF4AE practice mode, actually. Simply by changing how I held my arcade stick, I managed to turn Ryu's infamous Shoryuken - Focus Attack Dash Cancel - Metsu Hadoken-combo from something I thought to be almost impossible to execute reliably, to completely trivial. It took me a goddamn year of trying, but I could suddenly do it consistently. And knowing that feels so goddamn good. I was at casuals at the time, and people were all "well look at that, you finally did it!".

The second part was when I managed to get a full game off of one of the best Tekken players in my country. Granted, this took something like 30 tries, but I actually did it. More than once, even though the final score that evening was something like 50 - 2 to him. D:

It's also worth mentioning the several times when I've played someone semi-competent online and lose the first round, only to go "alright, I see what he's doing" and then get a perfect the next turn because I figured him out. It really takes people out of their third turn when that happens.

This was waaay back in the early 90s when a little game called Mortal Kombat came up. I was lucky enough to get a copy for my Genesis for my birthday and I played the shit out of that game, but never knew about Fatalities or at least I didn't know I could do them, I'd just do random stuff when the finish him came up. Hey, this was back in the days before the net was around to give away all a games secrets and well I was just a kid anyway. So one day I had a friend over, we were playing along, I was killing him as Sub Zero and finally that Finish Him! Came up so I just hit buttons at random and started twirling the D-pad when suddenly the screen goes dark and Sub Zero Rips off Jonny Cages head! Followed by the word FATALITY! I had no idea what was going on but I loved every second of it. My friend got kind of freaked out, it was awesome.

Soul Calibur II
Basically the only fighting game where I half-way learned a characters moves and could use them on command, instead of full on button mashing.

Lol, despite all the fighting games I play, my favourite moment comes from Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm. My friend was playing Gaara and I was playing Chouji, my main character in that game, and we had quite the bout. In NUNS, players have two health bars similar to what you'd find in Injustice and Vampire Saviour. This makes coming back from a life/round deficit much harder.

The match did not go well for me for the most part. Gaara is a ranged character in a game where zoning and keep away was very strong, and Chouji is a slow, close-ranged fighter who deals decent damage but has trouble manoeuvring around mazes of projectiles. Needless to say, I was eating sand trying to make my way in for the majority of the match. I generally win matches against my Gaara-playing opponent, but this match definitely looked like a loss when he still had two health bars and I was one pixel of damage away from death. I could not afford to take chip damage at all.

But as it is with any fighting game, as long as you have health, you can come back. So I did just that. I slowly made my way towards him, dodging projectiles and using what little terrain the stage had for cover. It took some time, but I managed to get to where I needed to be: right up in his grill. To stay in front of him, I had to be unpredictable with how I time my attacks, otherwise he could just "ninja poof" out and start up his zoning game again. He can escape from grabs, specials, normals, and even "combos" by "poofing." Plus it costs practically nothing to use this technique. It's really, really dumb, and is why I say NUNS very heavily favours zoning and keep away.

Anyway, I am right in front of him and I cautiously deliver my attacks. I change up my timing by mixing in throws in my strings of attacks, and I chase "poofs" by resetting my "combo" into this:

lol human boulder

It was constant rushdown. If I had let him breathe for even a moment, I would have lost. Thankfully, I was in the "zone" and my offence seemed perfect. Eventually, through many throws and resets, I whittled his health down to zero. I won! The look on his face after that match was hilarious. He was just dumbfounded. It wasn't only he and I in that room either. Everyone had a good laugh.

To this day he seeks revenge. He's looking for a moment of his own. :p

I have a few 'finest moments', so I should just list them now. But, let me make one thing perfectly clear. I SUCK at 2-D fighters overall. Guilty Gear, Street Fighter...you name it, and I'd probably suck worse than an egg on toast.

With that said, two friends of mine came over and we decided to play KOF XIII. One of them picked King, I picked NESTS-Style Kyo ('cause I practiced with him the most). Those who've played the game immediately see the problem here. For everyone else, King has projectiles, NESTS-Style Kyo doesn't. And, wouldn't you know it, the guy spammed projectiles every time I tried to bait him to get closer. It was after a couple rematches that I started to notice patterns, what my strengths and weaknesses were, and how to capitalize on my combos. So, I challenged him to one more rematch. Then, I proceeded to wipe the floor with him, ending by max-canceling Kyo's Mu-Shiki into his "Totsuka" in a fair bit of overkill.

The second one was when I was tackling Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus. I was playing through Sol's story, and when I got to I-No, she just ripped me apart. However, I kept trying. It was about several re-tries later that I got my finest moment. Not only did I hit her with Tyrant Rave Ver. Beta, but that move actually won the match for me.

Now that I'm done with the 2-D fighters, let's talk about Tekken, which I consider my self decent at.

The last one was when I played through Tekken Tag 2's arcade mode when I faced Unknown for the first time. I was playing on a one-win system rather than a best-of-three system. Suffice to say, the pressure made me screw up when I was so close to winning, and Unknown juggled my sorry butt down to a sliver of health. The red health wasn't going to be enough to let me survive another hit. I was doomed. But then, she went for a high attack, and for the first time since I picked up Jin in Tekken Tag 2, I instinctively used d+1+2 and, like clockwork, followed up with a 2 (for those who want the actual names, that's Jin's new 'Zenshin' stance ~ Swaying Willow). Not only does Unknown get hit, but she goes down.

Unfortunately, I forgot to record that last one. An epic fail on my part.

Persona 4 Arena .

When i made a combo with Elizabeth that will 9/10 when a player get's caught by it they will die . It's a the combo itself does about 70% damage but the reset is so perfect it's so hard to get out of . Even if you burst , you have to burst at the right moment to get out of it .

It does take a bit of timing , and setting up . But it's almost an instawin . Iv'e gotten many perfects due to it . All i need is 23 Sp to be able to do it infinitely .
It's too bad she and Yu are fucking OP. They are the only characters to have any form of reliable beam spam (especially Elizabeth). I walked through the main game with Elizabeth "Perfecting" almost every round just through beams alone. The only character that gave me issues was Yu, due to his also OP nature.

OP: I used to play Tekken 3 against roomates in college. Then I didn't play again until recently I picked up Tekken 6.
I went online with my fave character Xiaoyu and by my 5th match, I destroyed some guy who played over 1200 online matches.
We met up again later and I beat him again.

It was almost as good as that time my level 38 Seung Mina took out a level 203 Kilik on SC4 online. Their excuse? My controller is only half charged so it doesn't respond right. Yes, of course.... it has nothing to do with the fact that everyone uses Kilik and he's become so fucking readable that only noobs use him anymore.
You would think that . But it's extremely punishable on block , unless you do it a full screen . It's chip damage isn't that great . And charcters like Shabrys can punch you out of the ground at full screene , while Yukiko's personal action is invulnerable to projectiles . I'm not sure but i think if you time ot properly you can dash through it too . Or you know , super jump .

Elizabeth is good , but heavily relies on her persona . Which is really vulnerable .

Beam spam is the first think new players learn to do ( as i did ) and it's the first think they stop doing , but it doesn't work much . I che k out my first replay and my last . At first i use to use it all the time , at the end i only used it in a combo . Too risky.

They might be easy to use in the single player, but in multiplayer there's no character in P4A that could be considered OP. Elizabeth is widely considered one of the bottom three characters in the game, but she's still a very viable tournament character, as a testament to how balanced that game is :V
(Yu is considered top 5 afaik)

When we're talking about single player, I was at my friend's house a few years ago and a completed the ladder match game type thingy in MK: Armageddon, despite having near to no experience with MK at all (I used Sector, he looked cool).

SSBB is a fighting game, right? Yes, it sure is. When we're talking about multiplayer my 3 friends and I were doing a free-for-all match on Captain Falcon's stage from Melee, the one with vehicles moving towards the left of the screen, the one where if you lose your footing on a tiny platform it's instant death. Yeah, all our lives quickly depleted after respawning, immediately falling off a car thing and die. I'd only call this my 'finest' moment because it was funny as hell.

This going to be a strange example as its not really match stories but it is heavily related to fighting games.

When Persona 4 Arena was released. A well known streaming group (FinestKO) invited me and my cosplay friends to a big 24 hour charity event just to help entertain the crowd. As the guy cosplaying as Teddie, the group knew I could do a good Teddie voice so they requested me to commentate on many matches in character. The best part was how divided the comments section was according to my friend as it was divided between people who "got the joke" and those who had no idea what Persona 4 was and cursing up a storm.

Fortunatly (or unfortunatly) for everyone a lengthy highlight reel of my comments was uploaded to Youtube. I'd post it here but think its against forum rules so I don't want to get in trouble.

When i was playing Guilty Gear XX AC+ as Sol in maniac or very hard(can't remember) mode against a Dizzy, suddenly a guy i know came out of nowhere(this was on a portable system) and started watching how i played, shortly after he came,i accidentally activated instant kill mode,i thought my tension bar was screwed, but suddenly,Dizzy jumped, and i saw my chance(Sol has an anti-air instant kill),so i did the instant kill motion, and it actually worked!

And a few years back, when i still had xbox live gold, and still played DoA4,i was playing against a guy who had been slaughtering everyone for some time now, including me, and had a win streak longer than 60,i don't remember the details, but i killed him,i killed him so hard he ragequitted
Sadly the awesomeness didn't last, when i left the lobby for a new one,and saw him there, instead of fighting him again,i left

I and some friends were in a bar while our parents guzzled down all the beer they could hold. The bar had an arcade machine running King of Fighter '99. We played it until the end, when we had to face the final boss, Krizalid. I was the only one that managed to beat him even being the most inept player around. I didn't really know what I was doing. That was great.
