My first anime was Blackjack but that was a film. My first anime was probably Astro boy and Pokemon followed by Virus buster Serge.

Sailor Moon I guess. My daughter went through a huge craze with Sailor Moon back in the day and we watched that more often then Sesame Street. First one I cared about would be InuYasha if we are talking full length series.

Either this or Bubblegum Crisis 2040. Can't recall which one I watched first. Evangelion was right behind it as my second, and to this day my favorite.

Mmmm I was going to say Laputa:Castle in the Sky but since you mention that you understood it (I was a child when I first watch it but I had fainted memories of it) I think it was either Samurai Pissa Cat, Gigantor aka Tetsujin 28 (not the black and white) or The Guyver.

The anime series I actively watched would be Big O. That show just had so much style.

The one I remember well and found myself truly invested in was Rave Master (Not sure what it's name was in the original release. but in the states it was called Rave Master)

I started with Cowboy Bebop. I wouldn't say it got me into the genre, but it made me open-minded to the possibilities of anime (good stories coupled with gratuitous-ness). Black Lagoon pushed me right through the door.
