ok because of the nature of the question I've put in some guidelines so I don't end up with "Goodnight Moon"

The first novel I ever read all the way through by myself is Holes by Louis Sachar when I was 7 years old.

When I came down sick and had to stay in bed for a week I read one of the Barsoom novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs. I don't remember which one because this started a reading spree and I devoured pretty much any book I could lay my hands on.

Before having this change of heart I only read comics and Donald Duck pocket books.

Let us know the first text you read in your first language, as it would be interesting to see what is used in each language.
Mine was definitely 'War and Peace', followed by 'Finnegan's Wake' and 'Ulysses'. Yep. Honest.

But seriously? I'm not sure. It might have been The Hobbit or one of the 'Famous Five' books...

Pretty sure it was this.

If not this exact book, then definitely one from the Spot series.

I'm not sure what my first book was. It was probably a Thomas The Tank Engine book. I do know that my first novel was The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton when I was 4 or 5. I was a big reader from an early age. My mother read to me since I was born and I started reading my own books as soon as I could hold then by myself.

I can't be the only one who loved these. And they're still making them. I think I had the first 20 or so when I was a kid?

I recently heard it got an anime adaption since it's apparently quite popular in Japan.

Considering that I was probably about three at the time and I doubt my parents would remember which one out of the like three hundred books that we have for little kids I have no idea wat the first book I read was.
